Todd Collins turns down the Bears
According to multiple sites, the Veteran QB has rejected the Bears offer. Collins agent says, "the Bears would not offer a small signing bonus or guarantee any money, and Collins feared he would come here just to be a camp arm and be cut in a matter of weeks."
Does this mean that the Bears aren't that worried about the injury Caleb Hanie suffered in San Diego? Who else is out there that you would feel comfortable backing up Cutler?

I would think Josh McCown would be the next guy on their list.
He’s been in a Mike Martz offense, a former Lion and Panther…he fits the mold.

He's with the UFL with no "out" clause. He's not an option.

The UFL?
I think their players will break a deal for NFL money.
In the 8th grade Mike Ditka won his school's Science Fair with a model of a working volcano. There were 17 other working volcano's made that day, but only one named Mount Ditka.

They'd have to forfeit their contracts,
and pay any penalties associated with that… not too sweet of a deal for someone who could turn around and be cut after Hanie heals up. Then, they’d be jorbless.
I think the UFL
would take anyone back that is a name player.
Has anyone ever seen one of their games? The only publicity they get is when they sign a former NFL QB

You may be right, but you may be wrong.
The UFL is just beginning camps right now too… if a QB were to forfeit his UFL contract to be a camp arm for 4 weeks in the NFL, and then want to return to his UFL team, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched for them to tell him no, simply because he would have missed that 4 weeks of training, learning, jelling, etc with the teammates and coaches.
If it were me
I’d jump to the NFL.
He could probably make as much as the UFL pays managing a shoe store.

So what you're saying is...
Brett Favre couldn’t play in the UFL?

If Brett Favre played in the UFL
ESPN would televise their games

And relegate the NFL to an a highlight slot.

This whole thing ticks me off
Why in the world would we not have a veteran back up in the first place and Hanie and the fever would fight it out for third string. We constantly look stupid with this coaching staff. Same thing with not being able to get a defensive coordinator. I can hardly believe that Peppers wanted to play here no matter what the money was..

Kyle Boller or Charlie Frye?
Both are fighting for the 3rd spot on the Raiders depth chart.

Jeff Garcia
Who cares that he has not played in a Martz offense before. He is a proven winner, and I think the best QB still available, not to mention one of the best backup QB’s of the last decade. That or I’d trade Hanie to the Dolphins for Tyler Thigpen. I thought he looked pretty good in KC despite being so young and of course having to play in KC.

Whoever they get, it's not a permanent thing
THe Bears reall y just need someone to fill in until the Hanie is healthy (week 1?) and take some reps in the preseason.
That’s the reason why Todd Collins sees this as not a good opportunity.
Jeff Garcia, Luke McNown, and other QBs thinking they can stay on a roster will probably all say the same thing as well.

Really now, what veteran is going to sign, and possibly get injured, only to be released before the season starts?
Work on the running game this week. It’s not as if the Bears have shown much with their ground attack.
Still
that’s an awful lot of reps for LeFevour to take at this stage in his development. He’s been a big kid for just a couple months now.

As crazy as this might sound...
… The Bears might have to think about a player “like” JaMarcus Russell— someone who needs to prove themselves again. An audition.
I would like to know what Duante Culpepper is doing or Charlie Frye.
A guy who is in NFL obsurity at the moment and can use some “name recognition” during these last three preseason games in an offense that is all about passing.

Culpepper is also playing in the UFL, so the same situation as McCown.
Russell? I wouldn’t even touch him with explosives.
Gutierrez was in the UFL as well.

He wouldn't even want a signing bonus
except for maybe some purple drank.

A drink
turned down the Bears? Muhaha!
I pretty much don’t give a darn about it, cause if any team loses their starting QB they’re screwed no matter the backup.

Not to be "that guy"
but isn’t the drink a Tom Collins?
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
I remain a pessimistically hopeful Bears fan.
You are correct
but that was always a stupid joke with him cause his name is so close.

With no guarenteed money, no significant signing bonus and vet minimum pay...
who do the Bears really expect to get? They will not give up an announcer job or anything else to play for 4 weeks and be released. Unretire and grab another concussion from the Bears abysmal blocking, no thanks.
That being said, Lovie look me up, I’ll play for minimum for a few weeks but I’m going to need some guaranteed health insurance.

Maybe Scott Bakula is still ready to go.
I don’t think he’s much older than Favre. Of course, that means we may have to take Sinbad and Rob Schneider too.

Whats the point
season is shot anyways if Cutler goes down…which he won’t, but the Kurt Warner for Trent Green thing..
1. once in a million years thing
2. they already had a superbowl caliber team…do we?
Hanie should be fine if we ever need him, by that time, and if not, well we signed LeFevour, trial by fire.

It’s good that they’re trying to upgrade, but seriously though, this should have been taken care of 6 months ago.
