Chicago Bears welcome two and give two their walking papers
The Bears made four roster moves today, signing two and springing two. With the Caleb Hanie injury (and the Dan LeFevour poor play) it was necessary to get some QB insurance for the next few weeks. Matt Gutierrez signed today as did defensive back Aaron Webster.
To make room on the roster they sent offensive guard Vince Vance (such a porn name) and linebacker Matt Mayberry packing. Local kid Mayberry should end up on the Bears IR once he clears waivers, as per Brad Biggs.
Rookie undrafted free agent Webster started his career earlier this off-season with the Texans. He's a warm camp body.
Gutierrez spent 2007 and 2008 employed by the Patriots (so he's gotta be good right) before being claimed off waivers by the Chiefs in August 2009. For more on Gutierrez, hit up chicagobears.com. I'm sure he'll get some mop up duty against the Raiders this weekend.

If Mike Ditka punched you in the face, you'd have to fight off the urge to thank him.

2 insignificant, yet necessary moves
good call on the porn name.
Mayberry looked like a Jr. version of Hillenmeyer.
I wonder if Gutierrez plays well enough to challenge LeFevour for the #3 job? Or conversely, if LeFevour plays bad enough for us to render himself practice squad material. I think LeFevour will be allright, but I wouldn’t consider him a lock to make the regular season roster.
Lefevour didnt get much help
The WR Matthews dropped what? 3 or 4 passes?
i thought he would of been cut

I concur
& Matthews will deffinintely be getting cut before too long.

One thing is for sure
JA seems to relish his draft picks, especially when they’re in their rookie year and a QB. He’ll make the roster cause someone will snatch him up on waivers.

poor play? He is a 6th round rookie.........
……..He had no blocking…………Everyone dropped passes……I’m not sure if that counts as poor play…..
Is it me,or do the Packers really suck???

Slow release, poor mechanics, a weak arm and leading receivers into their deaths didn't help him......
He’s a project player. It’s not like the Bears planned on him playing anytime soon, so I’m willing to give the kid a break.

Exactly
Slow release, poor mechanics, a weak arm and leading receivers into their deaths didn’t help him……
In the 8th grade Mike Ditka won his school's Science Fair with a model of a working volcano. There were 17 other working volcano's made that day, but only one named Mount Ditka.

That sucks Mayberry got injured
I really like him. I think that given some time he might be able to develop into at the very least a good special teams guy / backup LB. You gotta love his speed.
Has anyone heard from Scott?
I’m watching the preseason game tonight, so not entirely sure if he saw some mop-up duty.

I saw him in there
from the start of the second half. He looked pretty good versus the run. He’s a massive guy for a safety. I hope they can keep him on the practice squad this year.
