The Bears Den: August 25, 2010
...where the Snozzberries taste like Snozzberries.
Some offensive woes due to "experimenting"
Todd Collins already the #2 QB?
Four sacks and Bears still not worried about Williams.
More of the same non-worry about Williams' Orlando Pace impression.
The hyperbole is strong with this one.
Not a game... we talkin' 'bout practice; Urlacher misses second consecutive day.
Speaking of injuries... Major Wright and the Mullet "Man"elly back at practice.
When I graduated first grade, all my dad did was tell me to follow WCG on Twitter.
Goldicollins and the cheap Bears? (It's 2am, give me a break.)
Corey Wootton's latest rookie diary entry.
The Man, the Myth, the fourth string TE.
VIDEO: Offense ran/passed very "balancedly" and something about Forte's confidence.
Roach could be back by opener, but job could already be Pisa's.
Bears reach injury settlement with LB Matt Mayberry.
Problems for Vikings, star WR could miss most of the season.
With McNabb out, it's time for the Rex effect in D.C.
For Ifuwanna... Saints release Mark Bradley.
Double Rainbow guy is back at it... this time with the Colonel's chicken:

The Bears Den: July 25, 2010?
When did we invent time travel? Does this mean we have to play the first two pre season games again?

1. I'd love to see what "fill in the blank" excuse Lovie Smith comes up with
if the Bears lay a dud vs the Cardinals.
2. All this talk about experimenting and one-on-one match-ups
I’m watching our line, specifically our LT, get absolutely embarrassed in one-on-one match-ups without any scheming or help. Isn’t that more alarming than anything else? The bast tackles in the league don’t need any scheming help: they just go out and dominate.
3. Let’s not forget about the defense
Jason Campbell picked us apart for an entire quarter. It was 2009 all over again.
"You win because of the quarterback. We have to get that position stabilized. We're fixated on that." -- Jerry Angelo (12.30.2008)
Jerry Angelo trades for Jay Cutler! (4.2.2009)
This is the scary part, if they were different issues/mistakes I wouldn't be as concerned.

It seems
Instead of the NFC north being the black and blue division it could be the shoot out division with the packers, bears, and lions having to out score the other team on offense because all 3 seem to not make stops on passing drives.
Martz comments
“That’s a very small percentage of what we do, just having those five guys block,” Martz said. “We don’t do very much of that. You slide, you turn, you chip, you double chip; there is so many different ways. There are 37 protections or more that we have to help with that. There’s nobody in that group, if we needed help on a [player such as] Peppers, who we can’t go right to it and help. What we want to do is put those guys out on air against real good players, and [make them] learn how to pass block and deal with it. In the event that we get a big dog over there that we’ve got to take care, we know how to do that.”
I didn’t really like how he downplayed the poor performance on Saturday in the beginning of this quote, but the end of it does make since. If you’re going to make mistakes, then it’s best to make them in the preseason.
However, your LT has to be a one-man wrecking crew and CAN NOT get beat for 4 sacks by an average to slightly above average defensive lineman. Your LT has to be the VERY best lineman on your line.
Chris Williams was a first round pick in a draft that was Tackle HEAVY (I liked Sam baker of USC, personally). If he can’t hold his own/make adjustments against his moves against Wimberly, then how is he going to fare against a Jared Allen (who will be seeking revenge for the end of season game last year) or a Van DeBosch or a blitzing 3-4 in Green Bay?

My advice to you is....
For you to give up cheering for the Bears. I’m not going to put to much into a meaningless preseason game. Its the preseason. Now week 4 or week 5 if they still stink then there’s a problem, but not after 2 meaningless games in August. GO BEARS!!!

Huh?
Read what I wrote:

… You practice how you play. Which has been the Chicago bears problem since they “lightened” the offseason workload in 2007.
Me concerning myself with their performance in preseason play is TOTALLY different than me concerning myuself with the outcome of a “meaningless game”. I could give a crap about who wins the football game…
… I’m watching how the players perform and utilize the workouts/training/skills/fundamentals that they have been working on since the beginning of the offseason.
If you don’t concern yourself with that, then that’s fine. Just don’t be confused at week 4 or 5 and wondering “why the Bears o-line hasn’t learned how to block” or how come the receivers don’t get the offense.

Yes. Because there is no place for constructive criticism or plain observation in fandom.
New rule in sports fandom #28b:
If you observe that your team has weaknesses, then you MUST relinquish your fandom immediately, and pick another team to root for.
Some people… seriously…

That's blasphemy, sir!
… And you are in violation of Statute Code 23b:4.2 "No one shall passive-aggressively mock the mocker when they are mocking someone for a constructive opinion on a football team they “claim” to be a fan of."

WR Sidney Rice
I wrote a fanpost on the wide receiver woes for the Minnesota Vikings.
I think it will be a big problem for their offense this year and could be an interesting development to watch.
Who will step up? Berrian or TE V.S.?
Will there be any newcomers who can fill the void? (No, not old man Javon Walker)
How much will they rely on “Purple Jesus” aka Adrian Peterson? Can he take another 300+ season?
The VIkings, to me, are not Super Bowl contenders. They’ll be good (11+ wins)…
… But not Super Bowl contenders in 2010.

Kyle Orton is looking GOOD— I mean REALLY good— in Denver this preseason too. Minus a big name receiver.

I don't think anyone here would be surprised. The Bears aren't known for developing QB's.
The biggest problem the Bears have is they try to fit players into a system rather than tweeking the system to take advantage of the talent. Witness their reliance on the Tampa 2 defense even though Tommie hasn’t been a top 3 technique since he was injured in ‘06, and Urlacher was out for all of ’09. We have arguably the best LB talent in the league, yet they can’t find a way to exploit that advantage.

Look I know it's preseason
So it’s easy to build in the excuse, “it’s just preseason” but I am starting to get real concerned with this team. We’re seeing the same weaknesses that we have seen the last 2 or 3 years and honestly, if I don’t see improvement this weekend in what is the most important preseason game (starters go the longest) then I will have to put down the offseason Kool-Aid because frankly, this team is playing like the 7-9, 9-7, 7-9 squads of the last three years.
"I was interviewing George Halas and I asked him who is the greatest running back you ever saw. And he said, 'That would be Red Grange.' And I asked him if Grange was playing today, how many yards do you think he'd gain. And he said, 'About 750, maybe 800 yards.' And I said, 'Well, 800 yards is just okay.' He sat up in his chair and he said, 'Son, you must remember one thing. Red Grange is 75 years old.' - Chris Berman
