Preseason #3 Preview: Arizona Cardinals @ Chicago Bears
Well this is the big one: all the rhetoric, all the promises, all the nonsense gets put aside for this game. We've been told that the defense is better...prove it. We've been told that the pass rush is fixed...prove it. We've been told that the offensive line's technique is sound...prove it. Results matter this time. You play to win the game! Let's see something to inspire hope, create momentum and give us some confidence!
Please see NiqueBears post on the DL + DB vs OL + WR matchup for some great info on what this game means for our defense.
Quick Numbers:
79: Still the number of Bears on the current roster. The NFL roster cut down date to 75 is August 31st, so most of these guys will get 1 last chance Saturday night to make their mark.
4: Number of sacks by Kamerion Wimbley last week...needless to say that's a lot.
3: Number of quarters the starters might actually play...yay!
2: Position on the depth chart for hot-tube aficionado Matt Leinert.
Key Injuries:
BEARS: Major Wright-finger, Urlacher-calf, Roach-knee, Earl Bennett....still with the hammy, Hanie-shoulder.
CARDINALS: Larry Fitzgerald-knee, Early Doucet-abdominal strain...his tummy hurts - somebody get him some ginger ale and a saltine cracker.
When Arizona Has the Ball:
It's evaluate the defensive line day. Jarron Gilbert (#93), Henry Melton (#69), and Corey Wootton (#98) need to show what they got because one of them (and possibly 2) won't make the roster. Beanie Wells & Tim Hightower provide a nice 1-2 punch at running back. It's a nice test for these guys against the run.
Against the pass, the Bears are going up against Derek Anderson (and later Leinart). Neither of these guys are fleet of foot, but the Arizona line only yielded 26 sacks last season (6th in NFL). This is a nice test to see if the Bears "new" defensive line can get to the quarterback.
Key Matchup: AZ Guards Alan Faneca & Deuce Lutui vs. Tommie Harris, Anthony Adams, Marcus Harrison & Matt Toeaina.
X-Factor: We played Arizona in the 3rd preseason game 4 seasons ago...and then again in the regular season, I'll let Dennis Green explain:
The Bears are what we thought they were. Th-they're what we thought they were. We played them in preseason. I mean, who the h*ll takes the third game of the preseason like it's b*llsh*t? B*llsh*t! We played them in the third game, everybody played three quarters... the Bears are who we thought they were! That’s why we took the d@mn field! Now, *hits microphone* if you want to crown them, then crown their a$s! But, they are who we thought they were, and we let them off the hook!
Youtube link. That never gets old
When Chicago Has the Ball:
Can we please now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational offense?
Key Matchup: Our offensive line, especially Chis Williams vs Darnell Dockett (DE) & Joey Porter (OLB)
X-Factor: Khalil Bell and Garrett Wolfe are playing for their future here.

That video will live on forever.
I hope to be able to see this game and it will probably be the only preseason game I get to watch. So let’s get some good links posted in the game thread. I also hope to see Culter upright for the larger extent of his playing time, with the only reason he should be on the ground is if he’s tying his shoe or if he gets knocked over celebrating he 17 TD pass of the game. Lots of questions to answer in this one, if they aren’t answered in a good way we might just be who everyone thinks we are.

This is a good site too. I’ve never used it for watching football, but it’s always worked for White Sox games for me.

It was crazy in AZ the day after that game.
I will always remember the Denny Green flip-out.

I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
I saw you comment
on the azcentral story about leinart today. I was all “Hey, it’s Joe!”

The comments on SBN are much better though.
Most of the people on here seem to know what they are talking about. Azcentral is just filled with trolls.

Yeah but thanks to Tommie Harris
Remember Urlacher admitted he was coming in unblocked because of Tommie.. that was the good Tommie:)

PROVE IT< PROVE IT<
Who the He$$ appointed you the YARD BIRD GENERAL??
I hope we're not who I think we are....
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
I remain a pessimistically hopeful Bears fan.
My bold predictions for the AZ game...
1. Wolfe plays his way off the roster, Bell steps up.
2. Gilbert disappears, likely for good.
3. Melton and Harrison impress and make the roster.
4. DA shows up big, so does Hester.
5. Olsen finally looks better than average.
6. O-line gets blown up-Cutler scrambles a ton; everyone freaks!
7. Manning whiffs on an easy tackle
8. Bowman intercepts Anderson
9. Run defense looks really bad; T Harris is ineffective.
10. Bears win 24-17!
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
Haha. I wanna play.
1. No.
2. Probably
3. Yeah
4. Definitely
5. Not that soft
6. WIthout question
7. Of course
8. I’d be offended if he didn’t
9. Par
10. Yay

My turn, my turn....
1. Who’s Wolfe?
2. Again, Gilbert?
3. Hopefully, but look who their impressing…
4. You forgot the Knox
5. Is he playing the slot?
6. Time for the guards play poorly and the tackles look solid cause we must maintain confusion.
7. Only after being wildly out of place.
8. Doesn’t everyone?
9. Who’s T Harris? He must play for the Cardinals.
10. I say we lose in the 4th QT after being tied 14-14 in the 1st half. Then we still know nothing about this team….
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.

Wolfe should probably not be on the roster
"Nah….He’s an infielder. Second base…..I played second base, how hard can it be?"

This game matters
Everyone needs to just look around the division to see how much this game matters, the Fudge Packers put up 59 on Indy and not only did the GB offense play well but their defense had a good game, we better get our house in order quick because it looks like those bums up north are running on all 8 cylinders. No matter how sick it makes me to even discuss that team, we all need to do a serious reality check if we struggle in this game. Oh and did I mention Arron Rodgers is a tool.
White Sox fans need not apply.

tool
I hope Cutler is half the tool Rodgers is this year.

tonight's game
Hopefully the O-Line bounces back from the last 2 weeks and shows some major improvement tonight. I’m aslo looking at the roster battles: 3rd RB, D-Line, etc. Hopefully a good night tonight and then we can see what Collins brings to the table on Thurs.
What I want to see most won't happen in this game
I need Major Wright to be a player. Because watching Burnett from the Packers last night made me wonder if the Bears really wanted him instead and just fell asleep at the wheel when it got close to their pick. That kid can really cover. Imagine if we had a 2nd rounder and got him and Wright for SS.
Anyway as for as this game, I need to see Williams improve and just see some continuity on the Offensive in. Nothing major, just good solid play.
Yeah but it worked!
my biggest concern is the O line
just like last season
