Fantasy Football Draft Insanity
Our fantasy football league had its draft yesterday, as I'm sure others did too. This is my second year with this group, and we have a guy, now don't get me wrong, I'm a true blue die hard BEARS fan, but I think this guy drafts with his heart, and not his head. With the 5th pick in the 1st round he took Brett Favre, a bit of a reach to me, but oh well. Then this was his order... Matt forte, Johnny Knox, Devin Aromashodu, Greg Olsen, Chicago Def, Devin Hester, he didn't get Robbie Gould, due to the fact that someone else drafted him in the 3rd round. He did this last year as well, and somehow, it came down to me and him for the championship, which I won, but I was just wondering if any of you either draft this way, or have people in your league who do this, and leave you scratching your head. The unfortunate thing about this is, I play him in week 7, and not week 8, the BEARS bye week.

My draft is to get value for the pick
and if a Bear player fits that category then I take them. I have 3 Bears on my roster, 2nd WR- Johnny Knox, behind Calvin Johnon and ahead of TJ who’syomamma, and my second RB is Forte, behind Frank Gore, and my K is Solid Gould.

I understand trying to get value
I try and get value also, I got Frank Gore also, I think he’s gonna have a good year, I got Jamaal Charles and Jonathon Stewart to back him up, it just makes me wonder why make a reach so high, we had one guy take Minn def in the 2nd round, I waited to the 8th, and got Green Bay def, one that should be a good fantasy def, I’ll have to root against them twice, but oh well.

A guy in my draft too Brees with the #1 overall, yeah i know.
And some guy took the Colts D 1st off the board in the first 3 rounds. I know the guy was a Colts fan but damn really….

I took Brees in the 2nd
I got Brees in the 2nd round, after Farve, Rodgers, Peyton Manning, and Brady were taking. I figured, why not, Brees still being there after 4 other QB’s were already gone.

That's the thing I had somewhat of an idea on
when I wanted to draft a position but when people start taking all the good QB’s off the board or other valuable positions you have to flow with the draft. I think I grabbed my QB in the 3rd and got Rivers.

I too snagged Rivers
Got him in the 4th though luckily. Got Steven Jackson, Randy Moss, and DeSean Jackson 1-3. Didn’t draft a D until the 16th round. Anywhere before the last few rounds drafting a D is a mistake IMO. I don’t think there’s that much difference between the #1 and #10-15.
WILDCARD BITCHES!!! YEEEEHHHAAAAA!!!!!
There isn't.
The top, elite defenses have about a 3.5 ppg average over the pack, but the “very good” D/ST are something like 0.8 ppg avg over the pack.

Depending on scoring system, of course.
The above are over on CBS standard scoring and also about holds true for the ESPN and Yahoo standard games.

In a 6 pt per passing TD league
Brees & Rodgers are both first round picks, I wouln’t have a problem with someone taking that guy first overall (neither would be around at that guy’s 2nd round pick)
Unless the only scoring category is retirement waffling
there is no fantasy league where Farve merits the 5th overall pick.
Drafting with the heart and not the head
is a sign of a TRUE fan, and is not failure, to the contrary, but success in its most exaulted form.
I commend you, sir, and should you desire your own posse such as Smudgers, I would be honored to be a member!

No!
Anyone drafting all one team, let alone the Bears, will end up as cellar dwellers. There was a guy who drafted almost all Viking players in one of my leagues….he’ll be lucky to win 4 games.
Like Ditka said, I draft for value most of the time unless I have a gaping hole at one position. I had Fitzgerald fall to me with the first pick of the 5th round when I was looking for either a backup RB.

My one and only Fantasy year
was ’98 and I, quite accidentally, had acquired many Bronco players. Needless to say I made the playoffs. Unfortunately the 16th regular season game was a “playoff” game and Denver sat virtually all of their stars, Elway, Davis, Sharpe, McCaffrey.
So it worked…until crunch time. I started every one of them not really thinking about them sitting.
Lesson: Don’t get high in your own supply.

Alright guys...big question
Who’s a better bet on a week-to-week basis, hester or aromashodu? Seems like Hester will be on the field more as I’ve seen lots of 2 TE sets in the preseason
by ChiTownSportsMaster on Aug 30, 2010 9:00 PM CDT reply actions
Neither
If I had to choose a Bears receiver it would be Knox. Between Hester and D.A. I’d go with Hester b/c he returns punts. Don’t think you’ll see a huge difference between either of their receiving numbers this year.
WILDCARD BITCHES!!! YEEEEHHHAAAAA!!!!!
Apparently your league had a few idiots in it.
Why take Gould that early. Never draft a kicker!!! And never let your favorite team/players get in the way of drafting a fantasy team!

in the 1st round he took Brett Favre
What the hell is this, the Fantasy Football Special Olympics? Please tell me there’s not a cash fee for this league.

That does sound a "little" rediculous.
I have two teams, each in a seperate league. One requires a TE on the roster the other doesn’t here is how I drafted Bears on each team…both are keeper teams so we only had 10 rounds per each draft.
No TE
Rd 5 Gould…normally wouldn’t go that early, but there was a run on kickers.
Rd 8 Knox as a back up for Reggie Wayne and Steve Smith(car)
Rd 9 Bears Def back up to Jets Def
TE League
Rd 5 Olsen as a back up to Owen Daniels
Rd 8 Gould
Rd 9 Bears Def. with Chargers Def.
And all I kept hearing was “What a Bears homer”, but all the Packer fans who took Rogers/Driver/Finley and all the Vikings fans who took Favre/Shiancoe/Harvin were “smart team managers”
Unreasonable people make life difficult...
Only because...
Gould/Olsen/Knox/Bears D/ST isn’t quite the same fantasy standing as Rodgers/Driver/Finley or Favre/Shiancoe/Harvin. Well, maybe Olsen > Shiancoe, but Favre boosts Shiancoe’s and Harvin’s values pretty decently.
by Steven Schweickert on Aug 31, 2010 12:33 PM CDT up reply actions
I understand the difference in value...
But it isn’t like I took Knox or Olsen instead of Wayne or Smith…they are a backups and roster filler for bye weeks…
And for the most part the six players from GB and Min from my first comment were all taken as keepers before the draft, my frustation lies with the Vikes and Packers Def’s, Driver, Schiancoe, Camarillo, etc level players that were “just obvious” picks, compaired to that of late round backup picks to fill roster spots that make me a homer.

Now that's a different thing.
That’s an “I know what this player can do cause I see them and I’m fine with that here” pick. I’d be cool with that.

1 rule only
my one draft rule is: I WILL NEVER EVER, UNDRER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, DRAFT A PACKER & BRETT FARVE WILL ALWAYS BE A PACKER. As for Bears I took Devin A. to be my #2 wr in the 4th round of a 16 team league. I don’t think that was a bad pick
Devin A in the 4th is a nice pick up
I don’t let my hatred of the Pack or Vikes get in my way of winning my league, I had Aaron Rodgers last year, and it got me a title, and some extra ca$h

Sometimes ya gotta make that deal with the devil...
Last year I had Rodgers as well as the GB D/ST. Thank Ditka this year that I have Rivers at QB and the NO D/ST (I hope that’s not an omen lol).

hey hey...
it autopicked farve for me..i was quite mad when i came in a little late and saw him on my squad..i picked up knox because he was a beast for me last year in yahoo play and i was filling up my starting roster when i plucked gould. i already ditched farve cause i hate him and hope he dies of a massive blow to the head from peppers or gets thrown out of the league and banned from the hall of fame for some mysterious steroid usage.
Bear down Chicago
Yeah, it was.
Cause I’m the one that originally drafted Hester in our group. That’s how I realized it lol.

Yes,yes I do.
PSDB, thanks, thanks for noticing how much I like commas, I find they help separate the structure of my sentences, and further more I find that the comma is under used on WCG, so I’m trying to make up for that, I don’t want the comma to feel left out. So again PSDB, I thank you for noticing my use of the comma.
Thanks again,
