In the 8th grade Mike Ditka won his school's Science Fair with a model of a working volcano. There were 17 other working volcano's made that day, but only one named Mount Ditka.

I hate this organization especially the coaching staff
The smugness is the worst and now its rubbing off on the players….
Whoa whoa whoa.
Take the gun out of your mouth, man. I dislike the people running the Bears as much as you but the team doesn’t suck. If we can get comfortable playing in this Martz’s offense and get our defense up to speed and correct our 3rd down problem, we’ll be a good football team. The preseason has really pissed me off but we’re not in the regs yet so there are reasons for optimism.
by PolishSausage.Ditka.Bears. on Sep 1, 2010 5:11 PM CDT up reply actions
No I think we really suck
But football is like my fourth favorite sport so its not a huge deal to me.
I basically think quite a few people do not know what they are doing, our offensive line is terrible, our D is old and the secondary sucks plus Urlacher will be hurt in two games. Cutler may be overrated but I think he can be really good with the right circumstances, which will not come with Lovie.
The Bears are not going to want to pay two coaches with a possible strike coming up, so Lovie is very safe right now and he knows it.
lol what strike?
And u Guage all of this off 1 preseason game? Lol step away from the ledge n take look at the majority of games. Most lines haven’t looked very good at all and the defense is usually ahead Of tha offense at this point. This is the purpose of the preseason.
If ya team aint the Lakers then your team SUCKS!

Duhhhh!
Great indepth ananysis.
IF the Offense can just figure out what we are doing and score some points? … AND IF the Defense can just figure how to get off the field, we will be OK!!!
Duhhhh!
It’s plain as the nose on your face that for three years and counting, that is not happening.
The answer as to what we need to do is debatable.
What is not in question or debatable, is that we have a team that can not excute basic football plays on a consistant basis on either side of the ball
Drink the Kool-Aid. Click your Ruby Slippers all you want, … The cold hard reality remains as it is.
… This is not being a negative Bear fan.
I have lived and died with these guys for 47 years, shitty radio transmissions, delayed telecasts at the E-club in DaNang, The Embassy in Moscow and a teletype patches in Ramadi. I have followed them literally from the ends of the Earth. I have seen this before and what we have here is unjustified hope. Unfortunately, we have all learned that “Hope is not a plan” :(
This is just another mediocre team with a head coach that can’t draft, develope players, or be objective enough to admit and correct his own short comings.
Having said all that, … GO BEARS!!!
I think you are a little over-pessimistic........
but that does not mean that you’re not right, either…….
I prefer to wait until the games that count happen before I decide to eat the shotgun or not, so to speak. Not saying that the alarm bells aren’t sounding, cause they are, and in a big way. But I hold out hope that “this is just the preseason” because……well…..what is the better option? Give up now? Watch…….[chokes]……..MLB? My cubs suck, too, so that’s out……
Oh, and before I let you get away without saying something……..thank you so much for your long service. People like you are the class of the Earth. Vets, and especially Viet Nam Vets need to hear this more……..

But I come here to cry
And bitch and regale and cheer and get excited and pissed off and….
Plus it does look like we have some serious sucking potential this year. I’m all for the wait and see but if a fan wants to bitch, let them bitch. That’s just one more service WCG provides….
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
I remain a pessimistically hopeful Bears fan.
I bitch here all the time.
That’s not the point. The guy is trying to call me out for my “in depth ananysis” as he put it when obviously I just said a few hopeful things since time has passed and I’ve regained a bit of optimism since the last disaster. If you go look at my comments since Saturday you’ll see that I’m pissed off and also think they look like garbage. I’m trying to get under a guy’s skin for calling me out and nobody is giving me the simple pleasure. Shame on you all.

Well, if all that you have written is true...
….then you’ve seen MANY more horrible Bears teams than the one that will be on the field this season.
Remember against the Packers in the 70s, when the Bears blocked the Packs’ game-winning field goal…..right back into the kicker’s hands, and he ran it in for a game-winning TD?
C’mon. The Bears were CLOWNS for most of the late 60s (even with Butkus and Sayers), 70s, and 90s, not to mention a few years back. This Bears team has just as much chance of winning the Super Bowl as it has to be as pathetic as you suggest. Your ‘three years and counting’ some people call “NFC North Champs”.
The Bears are coming off a division title, and even though their schedule within the NFC will be more difficult, they play the AFC West this season rather than the AFC East. They drew the better two teams – Chiefs and Chargers – and home, and the Broncos and Raiders on the road during a year when both teams will probably suck ass (much like their AFC draw last season, Pats and Jets at home).
They get the Falcons and Seahawks at home (Qwest is a difficult place to play), while drawing the Eagles away. And even the game in London against the Bucaneers is an ‘away’ game for the Bears, so they didn’t lose a game at Soldier Field.
Three of their first four games, and four of their first 6, are at home before they travel to London. And their bye week comes perfectly in the middle of the season, after the London trip – and a week of rest and game-planning before they play the Eagles on the road.
Meanwhile, the Bears have good depth at many positions, and our major complaints as fans are things that still have time to be fixed in the next three weeks (like inserting Spencer at C and sliding Garza over to G).
Basically, I’m calling you out – if you’ve been watching the Bears for 47 years, then this years’ team should be in the top 30% of all the Bears teams that you have watched, and has an opportunity to be in the top 10%. The 2006 team was rather lucky, and really wasn’t as good as advertised, considering they likely lost the Super Bowl when both Tommie Harris and Mike Brown were injured in the regular season. So this current Bears edition, coming off hosting the NFCCG with stability at QB, RB, DE, etc, is likely the best Bears era since Ditka was on the sidelines. It’s certainly better than the majority of Bears teams that you have witnessed.
by Sweetness Lives On on Aug 14, 2011 3:09 PM CDT up reply actions
I think he said mediocre which would be a 8-8 team.
which could happen easy enough, bad breaks, bad luck and injuries
Everyone hates Lovie, Jerry, Martz etc.fact is nobody ever likes the coach for long people couldn’t wait to run Ditka out of town and get Wanny in there. With the exception of 1985 Ditka’s Bears choked in the playoffs. People use to talk trash about George Halas how the game had passed him by and he should sell the team and move into a nursing home.
what will be, will be and all we can do is watch and talk about it.

That was basically my point...
Bears fans have been bitchin’ about the team for decades. But this current edition, with the coaching staff, QB, RBs, DEs, LBs, should at the very least not embarrass Chicago like many teams of the past.
Although, yes, 8-8 is definitely possible, even 7-9. But so is 12-4. The Bears offense just has to figure out the Packers defense, and it could be a special year.

Plain and simple. Dane put up a post from LAST preseason along with last seasons comments. People are treating it like it was new. Because we’re reacting the same way we did last preseason. Savor the irony. SAVOR IT!

or at least in Lovie’s shoes…you can bet I would’ve put this defense in a hybrid 3-4 like the Cardinals.

sometimes
you gotta make things look bad, so that other people believe it is. letting your guard down is an easy way to get beat. and lets be honest if you go into a game thinking their best o linemen cant block, their best tackling safety cant tackle, and their pass rushing defensive line cant generate a pass rush you tend to let up or over compensate. maybe this was all a mind game, maybe its not. 13-3, or 3-13 im behind CHICAGO 100% and im from baltimore.

Why did the Madden people have to make the Bears
commercial where it shows us getting worked by the NFC All-Star team? We have to much hate coming our way for no reason every season, it’s downright silly.

As I've already told my friends:
Yep, we gave up 9 sacks in the preseason opener. Big deal. It’s the preseason. It means LESS THAN NOTHING! Last year what were we? 0-4. That seemed to work out ok for us. The year Detroit was perfectly bad (0-16), they were 4-0 in the preseason. Does our o-line need work? Absolutely. They’ve only been together for 2 weeks!!! We’ll be just fine by the time Sept 11 rolls around.
