Question for Kev
Kev,
I’m curious to know what you think about Rick Morrissey. Is he a complete D-bag…or just a partial one.
If possible, please answer this question in the form of a haiku.

Who are these Lions, and why are they coming to Chicago?
The Art Institute already has two guarding their building? I’d think that would be enough considering the city doesn’t have any Bears.

Football Outsiders has them as a wild card team too with 9 wins.
I can see that happening.
The NFC East is going to beat each other up, the NFC South is not there, the NFC West stinks, so some team out of the North can take that second wild card spot.

Brad Biggs on CTL last night
- Briggs practiced and looks like he is a go for Sun
- Think most everyone will be available
- Think Steltz might miss this game but did practice for first time since SD
- If Bears dont score on lions something is wrong
- Think the lions have improved and they have weapons now but oline and defense is a weakness
- If Bears dont improve from preseason could be a long season that could get interesting internally
- Thinks the vikes will go 6 -10
- Talked to former coach of Bears now coaching else where (guess rivera) and asked him how they could see preseaon problems. Stated that if it smelled like a problem then there is a problem
- Think Cutler and Martz need each other and actually does think that they do get along (no false bravdo/love)
- Cutler was against Martz at first and told people that if he was hired that he would not show up for OTAs
- But when they meet face to face and talked about football they actually did hit it off
- This is probably Martz last chance in the NFL to reinvent himself and get career back on track because if not for Bears he is out of a job
- As for defense he has heard that they are talking about using “subtle difference” especially for the secondary (thinks maybe more press coverage) but when pressed they get “edgy”
- Thinks the defense is going to be pretty much the same as before. This is Lovies D no matter who is DC and nothing will change really
- Izzy is probably the starter ahead of Anderson since Anderson (whom they let alex brown go for) has shown nothing in preseason
- Says Bears feel they got Oline protection improved
- Says Bears did a lot of 1 on 1 blocking to challenge the O Line and see what they needed to work on and see what they have
Getting to know Mike Martz offense with this offensive line? It’s just hours of pure boredom interrupted by moments of unbelievable horror.
- Jay Cutler
At least Biggs notices
that Anderson is garbage and the Vikes will go 6-10

My recap on Vikings from last night.
After seeing last night’s game, I stand by my assertion that the Vikings are not the “clear cut” 2nd best team in the NFC North.
In fact, I don’t even think the Vikings will be better than a 9 win team this year.
Brett Favre looked unattached to this team. No chemistry with ANY of the receivers, OL is still struggling and got worse with the loss of McKinnie early in the game, and the secondary looked worse than what I think the Bears secondary “will” be this year.
Problem with the team is that they have NO DEPTH in their secondary. The Vikings ran with 3 safeties when the Saints exploited their lack of depth with 4 receiver sets. Drew Brees CONSTANTLY picked on the FS Abdullah who couldn’t get to the spot needed once the receiver went past the zone area of the CB. When he overplayed the sideline, Brees went inside to the RB or TE. It was a well executed offensive display by the Saints who missed a lot of opportunities themselves.
But, the overlying problem was Brett Favre. His throws were way off, pressured, and he had no help from his receivers.
Again, Bears fans…
… I think the Vikings will be the 2007 Bears. Mark my words.

Jared Allen, Kevin Williams, and Pat Williams were pretty pedestrian too.
Pat, because of his size, did make a couple of tackles, but Allen and KW were totally taken out of the game. I did not expect that.

While I do agree...
the ’Queens are less than what they were last year. They were playing without their 2 starting corners and held the vaunted, SB champion, high-powered, Saints to 14 points. The run defense looked average, but considering the situation, the ’queens defense played well, but the offense looked confused and unbalanced. Oddly, they are a mostly veteran offense, not a lot of new faces, but the lack of Favre in the pre season and the loss of Rice showed. The Bears have an opportunity this year to be that wild card team, but they need to step up and play that way now, not at the end of the season when they have to win their last 4 games and hope some combo of teams will lose in just the right order. Carpe diem!

But, once Chilly saw the ball being targeted at Abdullah side of the field, he put him in on the strong side of the passing field. It slowed them down, but CERTAINLy didn’t stop them.

Fact on Jerry Angelo Draft Picks.
Since the 2002 season where Jerry Angelo took (partnered with outgoing Hatley & Jauron) over the Bears draft, he has drafted FIFTEEN (15) defensive lineman; SEVEN (7) of those were defensive ends, yet…
… In 2010, Angelo had to spend nearly $100 million to get Julius Peppers into Chicago blue and fix a GLARING WEAKNESS on this football team.
Scary & disappointing thought.

If they miss the playoffs again, there shouldn't be any question that JA/Lovie should be gone...
you also have to take into consideration that for 2 years in a row after missing the playoffs by only one game the previous season (because we couldn’t step up and beat the Texans in the last game of that year), the Bears have made the biggest off-season signings in the NFL with Cutler and Peppers, not to mention the second level signings of Orlando Pace and Chester Taylor in each of those years. On any other team, those signings should have improved your record by at least one game per season. We’ve actually gone backwards.
We all know that Pace was a bust, but that just adds to the reason for firing these morons if we are in the 7-9 / 9-7 range again and miss the playoffs again this year.
It's just horrible to watch this continue year in and out
I’ve noticed his glaring deficiencies since 2006, but because we were winning (essentially off the picks of Hatley/Jauron) fans paid little to no attention to how bad his selections were.

The worst part for me is my own apathy toward the team...
this happened to me during the end of the Wanny era as well. I’ve become so disenchanted with the organization’s seemingly disregard to put a winning program together, that I don’t get as stressed when they lose because I look at the silver lining of each stupid move or lost game gets us one step closer to a housecleaning of the coaching and front office staffs.
That’s not how I want to view the team I’ve idolized since I was a little kid, but they’ve given me a bad attitude. I want to go crazy during games again (not sure my wife feels the same way) and feel like I live or die with every play. That’s what being fan is all about.

I know the Dolphins went from 1-15 to 11-5 and the division in one season but that is not a common thing.
