Lions at Bears Pre-Game Open Thread Den

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, I'm proud to announce to you the return of the greatest thing to happen every year, the start of the 2010 Chicago Bears Season!

After the jump, check out a few links, including Da Coach's video preview for the game today. Use this thread to help contain your nervous energies. Look for your First Half Open Thread to show up around 11e/10c.

If you're going to the game today, represent WCG loud and proud. And remember, if you're imbibing today, stay out from behind that wheel. We like you too much for something to happen to you.

It's the dawn of a new season, let the pessimism roll away and get swept up in the magic of NFL Football. Have a safe, happy, and healthy season.

BEAR DOWN, CHICAGO BEARS!

Star-divide

Urlacher likes how Bears bolstered D - He's fond of their weapons. And hell, he's just good to be back on the field.

Bears-Lions: Four things to watch on Sunday - The Guru of Gridiron, Mr. Brad Biggs, gives us items to watch for today.

Video: Bears' Harris: 'We're going to have our hands full' - This team is not discounting the Lions. That's a smart move.

Lovie Smith has bred a special disdain from fans - Uh...yay?  At least he's excelling at something.

Bears set to put preparation to the test - It all comes down to play on the field. Let's do this thing.

Video: Ditka's Bears-Lions preview - Chicago Bears Blog - ESPN Chicago - He has taken time out of his schedule to bless us with a preview. Let us all be thankful.

Find something else cool? Throw it in the comments, you silly people. Don't deprive the rest of us!

Not feeling too good about this one today...

I guess we will now fairly quickly today if this team has improved at all, what we saw during the pre season will not get it done thats for sure.

WHAT???!!! The first comment isn't supposed to be a downer!

Yeah, man, don't try to kill the mojo yet.

That’s what the second half game thread is for.

Condolences to the Sox. Twas not their time.

lol

love it…

but they are going to suck, if they are good I will be pleasantly surprised. Same thing happened with the Sox for me this year. Plus there is always Hockey…

i have the answer for today's game

as i played madden11 when i got home from work this morning; all-pro vs lions w/new updated roster (no rewinds either honest injun). final score 50-17, cutler 450+ yards passing. there was a pick6 by bowman and a punt return td from hester to boot.

because of this lopsided victory obtained in a video game against a non-human opponent, i will give in to the totally irrational notion that today’s game will serve notice to the league that the bears are going to be very good this year…..as they knock the lions around soldier field for 3+hours.

37-16 BEARS

Supposedly

The Field was completely resodded since the Cardinals game and is, to quote Thayer and Hilgy “The Field is in phenomenal shape”

I hope so, man

I don’t want any Devin slipping on the field while on the middle of a big play.

Well, as tradition goes...

I play the same reg season game on Madden the night before a real game soo.

I predict, Matt Forte 1 rush TD

Brian Urlacher- 67 yard INT return to the 5 yard line

Jay Cutler 1TD 0INT

Bears win game 20-10

Bears radio Info from Fri and Sat

Dickerson on ESPN 1000

- Hopes Hester can take off but think DA is the more polished WR

- For him thinks production from WR will be DA #1, Knox #2, Hester #3

- Briggs is not 100% but will start. Briggs did not have a good preseason and coaches did talk to him about his tackling

- Clark fighting ankle injury and gout is probable

- Steltz is most likely out for Sun

- Bears love Taylors blocking plus ability to pick up the blitz and if the Bears pass a lot like he thinks they will expect to see more Taylor than Forte

- Marinalli will call the plays but Lovie will have the ability to over ride a play if he does not like it

- Marinalli expects to help more with the game planning more than anything else

- Thinks Bowman and Tillman should be fine but concerned about the safties

- STUNNED that Wright is not starting even with the injury. Does not even know how much Wright will play

- As of right now starting secondary is Bowman, Tillman, CHarris, DManning, and DJ Moore at nickle

- Prediction for game Bears 28 – 21

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Haugh on ESPN 1000 on Afternoon Saloon

- Thinks the vikes will be ok but that the D did get run on and that should worry them

- Jurko claims that berrian is the most OVER RATED and OVER PAID WR in minny history and the Bears made the RIGHT call letting him walk

- Haughs screams NO WAY Bears SHOULD NOT have let berrian walk because the team had NO WRs at that time

- NFC should worry that the saints won a 14 – 9 game as it shows that their defense can step up and win the close one

- Thinks lions can beat Bears if they are not careful

- Revamp D line can be a problem for Bears O Line and they will be tested

- Lions secondary is in shambles but the lions pass rush might be able to make up for it

- Thinks the Bears NEED to run the ball to be successful and win the game sun

- Bears face a must win Sun are ELSE

- Carm thinks Bowman is a training camp myth does not think that Bowman is ready and needs to show it Sun (especially with how johnson destroyed him last year)

- Haugh agrees Bowman needs to show that he has earned the top CB spot

- Haugh asked who would you want stafford, best or johnson Vs Cutler , Forte, Hester and thought it was close and probably go with the lions 3

- Prediction Bears 31 – 21

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Bear talk on CTL (featuring Brad Biggs)

- Was not concerned with preseason record concerned with how the starters played as you could not really point to one area and said that they were OK

- Bears using the excuse that they played vanilla football they are using that as a crutch stating “You do not go into a preseason game saying we will not reveal how we will block for our QB”

- Cutler got sacked 10 times in 6 qtrs and O line gave up an NFL preseason high 19 sacks

- Card game stopped most of the hype for offense since the card D gave up something like 95 points last 2 games

- CHarris Manning safety combo will mark 43 changes in 97 games under Lovie

- Predictions from panel

Chuck Garfien (filling in for Dave Kaplan) lions 24 – 21

Biggs Bears 35 – 31

Chris Hine Bears 28 – 24

John Crist Bears 27 – 20

All think the game will be FUGLY

Interesting fun fact: lions have lost 20 straight road games. Last road win was @ Bears when brian griese had 3 red zone INTs

Season predictions

Garfien 7 – 9

Hine 8 – 8

Crist 7 – 9 (thinks the roster is improved from last season but the schedule is BRUTAL)

Biggs 7 – 9 (but would not be surprised if they were 5 – 11 or 11 – 5)

Getting to know Mike Martz offense with this offensive line? It’s just hours of pure boredom interrupted by moments of unbelievable horror.

50: Season-opening victories by the Bears, which ties Green Bay for the most in the NFL.

.700: Bears’ all-time winning percentage in home openers, which ranks as No. 1 in the NFL.
