If we had an OL, we'd have a running game.
Martz has quite a challenge to call running plays and passing plays that can be successful behind our terrible OL.
They looked surprisingly ......
…… solid after Williams went down . Frankie took it to Ware and Schaffer was solid .

It's not a bad idea.
However, the o-line played great in the 2nd half against a very good D. I believe that the line in jelling and properly executing Martz’s blocking schemes. Give them one more week and then decide if you think the team needs to make the trade. Right now, I say no.

What a solid win!...
great play all around.
Extra props for DJ Moore, he has stepped up and become relevant!\
T Harris still sucks ass. In a game where everyone played well, T Harris and Manu stood out as just useless!
C Williams may just be the weak link on that o-line! Frankie O may not be the best solution, but the Bears played better without Williams!
Overall, great win and fantastic effort all around.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
At this point in his career
T Harris is basically more of a decoy. DJ Moore is looking like the ball-hawke that he was in college… Maybe Shaffer is a better option for us – over C. Williams.
Lets give Williams some time before we bail on him . Lots ....
… of folks had bailed on DJ Moore and looked what happened .

Re: Harris
For the most part, you’re right about Tommie. But there was a series late in the game where Tommie got a QB hit on Romo two plays in a row. It was good to see.

The bigest problem I have...
with the play of Harris is that he just doesn’t do much of anything. He doesn’t move the pocket. He doesn’t cover his gap. He doesn’t get pressure on the QB up the middle. He gets stood up too easily and tossed about by every guard or center he faces. He’s not penetrating into the backfield. He is easily singled up and pushed away from the play. Seriously, he was outplayed by Toeaina and Adams. I would be happy if he just held his ground once and while, but he cannot seem to even be “in the way” more than once in a blue moon.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
Agreed
The one thing we know for sure about Tommy Harris is…
He’s exceptionally lazy.
he just held his ground once and while

I thought our MVP outside of Cutler
Was Martz. What a great adjustment of the gameplan when he went to the quick passing game. Their pass rush was never the same for the rest of the game.

Wake Up!
It wasn’t as much as the absence of Williams, OR switching “O” for a set of downs, OR flopping Shafer! It was because Martz was smart enough to switch to half step drop backs when he saw Jay being abused every time he went back for a 5 or 7 step drop back. Mix in a quick dump off and a quick screen here or there and problem solved by a savy OC!!!!! A simple adustment when you have the “Smarts of a Martz” :)
Go Bears!
pbanachi
I'd believe that...
if it didn’t take Martz 5-6 quarters to figure that out. Mike Martz is not stupid. If that sort of adjustment were the ONLY contributing factor to the offensive success, then the Bears would have done it during the Detroit game; unless Lovie somehow overruled Martz/Tice last week, which would be tragic. Detroit has a poor secondary and the Bears could have exploited it easily in the same manner.
The O-line did play better when Williams was out. I do not think Williams is a bad player, but the reality of what happened cannot be ignored. The offensive scheme did help to keep the defense off balance, but Frankie O did do a better job of forcing the play outside long enough to allow Cutler to throw the ball.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
So when everything looks like it's going downhill Lovie is responsilble for everything and everyone under him
but when things go somewhat right he has nothing to do with it. I get it now..

Martz and Cutler are a lethal combo = FACT
Martz did a great job ADJUSTING to the talent on his O-line. And he did a excellent job of playcalling.
Cutler was remarkably accurate with his throws and the receivers did a heck of a job making catches (for the most part).
Defense came up big. Seemingly everyone made plays.

You can throw some eggs / tomatoes
One of two things will happen:
1. Favre gets it together and makes a run (maybe even with V. Jackson)
2. Favre keeps looking like s*** and you guys keep LOLing all year.
I went over and read the comments from today's threads
and honestly, there was plenty of lol’ing involved.
I’m sorry, after all the BS and drama involved with Favre, the Vikings organization deserves it. Sucks that it takes the fans down with it, but the worse you guys do with Favre under center, the more vidication that the “oh my god I can’t believe they’re putting it all on him” crowd receives. For the record, that’s essentially every football fan outside of your market that is sick of 24×7 Favre.
They seem really desperate trying to acquire V-jack
Don’t know how they going to pay both him and Rice top Money.
by Dominique Blanton on Sep 19, 2010 10:51 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Well, I hold Favre responsible for the loss.
It certainly wasn’t the Defense that gave up seven points and produced two turnovers.
Or the running game that produced 150+ yards and a touchdown.
People can complain about the coaching, but after harping on Childress for so long to show some bleep in his play-calling, I’ve got no armchair complaints about it this week.
Now, three interceptions (One of which was a WR hot potato) and a fumble on Favre’s part? Yeah, you can totally pin hat as the major reason for the loss. Just goes to show, ya gotta practice.
With regards to Vincent Jackson, bringing in a receiver who’s unfamiliar with the system and will take a few weeks to learn it, that hasn’t played a down all pre-season? Pass. We’re already getting burned by that a few times this year. Thanks.

I really doubt we'll have anyone with great numbers at the end of the year
That being said, while we currently do not have a number one receiver on our roster, we have in Knox, Bennet, Hester, and Aroma several solid receivers. In the Martz system, it appears, depth is more important than talent. And as we develop, we should only get better. That possibly our best receiver could be invisible and we still maintain a strong offensive showing is a huge plus to me.
I slightly disagree..
Cutler will have great numbers. But the rest of the receivers won’t simply because there are so many options. My “eye opening moment” was Forte’s TD catch last week, he never would have been there in a Turner-run offense.
Jake is right, we did have a band powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline.

Went back and forth from this game and the Ravens game in my friend’s home theater. VERY nice to see the offense click a little bit, tough defense maintain and the turnover issues reduce.

Martz and Cutler looks like a good fit. Its amazing what actually having a real Offensive Coordinator can do for a QB…
It is always nice to see the Cowboys lose too.
After all of the hype they have been getting, and that smug ******* Jerry Jones thinking the Cowboys would play in the Super Bowl this year in that oversized billion dollar stadium that looks like a giant toilet, it has been nice to see them fall flat on their face during the last two weeks.

Thank God for Mike Martz
Lovie at least knows enough to leave him alone. Martz develops a game plan, sees what works and doesn’t, then adjusts. He’s not so hard headed as to not admit the first idea wasn’t so great. It would apear they just might have the right mix of guys whose NFL careers are on the line, and they’ve learned to subjugate the egos in order to get the job done. Bring on the Packers.

They've been getting a free ride for a while now in the media
ESPECIALLY with Romo. Al Michaels a couple years back during our Sun night game had Romo walking on water. But, really, how far did they ever get in the playoffs to deserve this level of love? Divisional round losses every year, if they make it at all. Last year was probably the best they looked in the playoffs, but still. A dynasty they ain’t, and never been.

You see the vikings game against Jared Allen
where he blocked him 1 on 1 for the most part? He has all the tools needed to succeed.
I still think he will be a fine tackle in the NFL. Everyone has their rough starts.
Look at colombo, could never stay healthy and produce. We give up becomes a solid tackle for dallas.
by Bear Lovin 21 on Sep 19, 2010 7:24 PM CDT up reply actions
I did.
I also saw last week’s game against Van Den Bosche, this preseason against Wimberly, and the start of this week’s game against Ware.
Again, I think that the LT position calls for a player to be very consistent at the position and that the player has to be able to be on an island against the opposing defense’s best pass rusher.
Williams can’t do that.
He doesn’t get low enough, his pads crab walk is slow, and he just doesn’t pick up speed defenders well.
I wanted Sam Baker in 2008 and he has done well for the Falcons. Williams is going to be a GOOD RT (just like Colombo in Dallas), but he doesn’t have the talent to be a LT.
Just my opinion.

Not really . Think of it ....
…. this way … you’ve written with your left hand your entire life its what your used to doing then your forced to write with your right hand . Everything is kinda backwards and it feels awkward . Same thing with Williams . He’s played LT his entire career and was pushed into an awkward situation at RT , everything he was taught is now done in reverse . Last season he looked outta place at RT but once he was at LT he looked much more relaxed and it showed in his play . One game stands out in my mind as an example , the Minny game where he shut down Mullet , for the most part , on his own .
" Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth. " ~

Understood
But, that doesn’t support the fact that he did well last year at the RT position last year in one-on-one situations last year.
He did well against The Mullet, but that was with help and chipping. Your LT has to be the best blocker on the field— no question! He has to be able to match up most times on his own in order to allow the offense to have flexibility with the TE and RBs.
Williams doesn’t seem like he can do that at this point and possibly not ever— time will tell.
My guess is that he will be a better RT in the long run and that’s not a slight on him as it might be better for his skill set.

he showed enough skill last year to earn a full season with a real coach to see if he can play. Martz’s system is tough, but a full year with Tice will tell me whether Williams is worth anything. The last thing we need is another Marc Columbo.
Hell, if Tommie is still a starter, Williams deserves some more time to develop.

After the Bears’ 27-20 victory, wade tweeted: “@JayCutler6 you R a man of your word..”Imma put on a show 4 you 2day" his words 2 me B4 game."

Favre does look ineffective right now.
But he did at this time last year too. Instead of being able to beat up on two bad teams, we get the super bowl champs and a good team. Give it to week six, and we’ll see how he looks then.
Now, as for AP not looking explosive, he’s averaging 4.94 yards a carry. If that’s not explosive, it’s still pretty impressive.

My best guess
is that his size & style are so close to Rice’s that maybe they’ll put Sidney’s number on him and Farve [sic] won’t know the difference.
This was the best hitting game for the Bears D in years
Roy Williams was absolutely hammered a couple times on receptions, Austin was lit up on the INT, Peppers destroyed Barber on the Cowboys TD pass and of course Witten doesn’t remember the name of his wife. But I’m not ready to jump on the bandwagon just yet. He had two picks, but they were both off tipped balls that just happened to fall to him. Nothing really “wow, he made a great play” about them. Now, standing up Williams (I think) so Peanut could come in for the strip… that was nice.
Saying it again this week, Urlacher being out/injured the past couple of years hurt our team. He and Briggs together are beautiful to watch.

I've always been a big Urlacher fan but there is a big difference that I see this year...
he is playing much more physical than he ever has. He’s always been an athletic freak and has been fun to watch for that but he rarely was a real physical presence, in my opinion. They were all salivating and anticipating Cutler INT’s.
NOT!!
Nobody even talked about the Bear D here.
People write, read, see and hear what they want to write, read, see and hear.
I will gloat for the rest of the year and mark these words.
Cowboy fans will disappear from the stadium once the team is pronounced DEAD.
Apparently that will be soon.

With Urlacher and Briggs at full speed this defense is powerful
two pro bowlers at Linebacker are making the whole difference on this defense this year. Hillenmeyer did good filling in but he doesnt have the talent Urlacher has. Lovie bringing back the monsters of the Midway slogan may actually be accurate, this defense looks for real. And as Peppers assimilates into the scene its only getting better.

Was Mark Anderson in on that TD pass to Forte? I swear I saw him run on to replace Clark.

Shout out to the Bears coaching staff
We won with game time adjustments, Martz and Tice , and hot Rod got the job done. The coordinators are supposed to make the head coach look good. they did their job today. I have never seen a Bear offense adjust like that in the middle of the 1st quarter. something I thought I would only see other teams do, glad we went out and cleared out the suckers this offseason, kudos to all in the booth, sidelines, etc. great job.

Backbreaker that took the wind out of the Cowboys' sails
The deep pass to Knox on 3rd & 15. Just deflated that defense & they never recovered.
And just perfectly dropped in there by Cutler.
As Aikman said, not many QBs can make that throw that deep and accurate at the same time.
How good could the O be with a good Oline?
I will never utter a bad word about Cutler after how he took the early pounding and responded. Grossman would have been on a stretcher after the first 2 series.
Would like to see a blocking scheme though for rushers like Ware. Matthews had 3 sacks for the Pack today. Wish they would test him like his buddy Cushing. They both “suffer” from overtrained athlete syndrome aka ‘roids. You don’t go from 170 pounds to 240 in 3 years naturally.

Agree completely
on Cutler staying poised. We’ve seen him in the past get rattled and unravel, so it was wonderful seeing him take Martz’s adjustments in strides and have a spectacular game after those first couple rough-hitting drives. Also shows a lot of toughness physically on his part.
I think it helped our O-Line after the 2 quick slants that ended in the Olsen TD because the D realized they couldnt send 7 guys every down after that.
MY wish is we can find ONE RUNNING BACK that can get ONE YARD. I don’t care if it’s Forte, Taylor, Bell, Wolfe, or Cutler, but this not being able to get ONE YARD on the ground is getting old. At least we don’t have a FB to run the FB dive ala Turner-style, but to not be able to get ONE YARD last week in 4 tries in the goal line to today on 3rd & 1 to keep the Offense on the field is unacceptable. Find someone who wants to fight for one yard, regardless of what the o-line is doing, you should be able to DIVE or scramble to the outside for ONE YARD.
Harvey Unga is that guy ...... too bad hes on IR .

Agreed they need a 230-240 pounder who runs
Straight ahead. Watching Forte hop around in the backfield is growing tiresome. I think Cutler’s bulk/flab would be a better alternative in short yeard situation. Quick snap sneak. They did a sneak today on 4th down but it took way too long and Brooking just missed head to head contact with Cutler.

If you watched the Pats/Jets game...
LT handled short-yardage situations correctly…by going up and over, just like Peyton would.

Wowwwwwww............
Guys I was actually at the game and it looked way better in person. It was amazing and the stadium itself is a beast. There were tons of Bear fans some acting like douches but most amazing. Bears fans were loud and made themselves known. At the end of the game as me and my friends were leaving about a hundred Bear fans were singing Bear Down on the Mezzanine level. It was amazing. Most Cowboy fans were gracious in defeat but a lot weren’t. They kept making excuses and even their radio station was trying to make excuses. They found it impossible to believe the Cowboys could lose to the Bears. All in all amazing.
On a personal note…. this game made me a believer. Our boys went down to a hostile arena and lit up a great D. Our Defense looked pretty good against a good Offense. They could stand to shore some stuff up. I’m still irritated about how easily the OLine was being manhandled. They got better in the second half but still no where near acceptable. A let me say this, those big Bears hits sound so much better in person. Bear Down mates!
And since nobody else has done it yet .....

It was nice to see the 85 Bears er I mean it was a hard hitting game, your receiver gets a first down but pays, your Qb thraows a Td but the blocking back gets shitcanned, awesome it was a statement game and truly believe that the pacrats will be slinging the rock all day too bad cause the secondary is starting to look better with thier young talent. Its a goodnite to live amongst all the cowgirl clones and wear my Payton jersey with pride!

seriously though, #6 is impressing the bejeebers out of me. especially the ability to get pounded and not only keep playing, but play well. when was the last time we have seen a bears qb pick their game up instead of get shellshocked or injured under some serious duress? feels like quite a long time.
i think more than a few starting qb’s would end up on the injury report with the hits cutler has taken just in these two games so far.

I have many thoughts on today
And no one will read that but whatever.
1) It’s nice to have competent playcalling and adjustments. Seriously. I am now convinced that Ron Turner’s system actually makes QBs crappy by default.
2) During the 1st quarter I was freaking out a little. I was thinking “This is what I was afraid would happen” I even texted my friend and said “Is it too early to pull Jay for his own safety”
3) Hats off to Lovie and the coaching staff as a whole. They coached a much better game than last week and just out-coached Dallas full on.
4) Still didn’t like Lovie’s challenge though
5) I still don’t know if we’ll be able to hang with the Packers, but I said the same thing about the Cowboys. I will still feel more comfortable being hesitant to buy in fully to the Bears.
6) The o-line is coming together, slowly but surely. I don’t think I’m ready to give Williams the hook yet but he has to play better.
7) Speaking of o-line we still need to find a run game.
8) Who would have thought that after 2 games Forte would be leading the team in TD receptions?
9) I seriously lol’d when I saw the Vikings dropped to 0-2.
10) Despite all my concerns, being tied for 1st with a showdown for sole possession of 1st in the division is a great place to be and not somewhere I thought we’d be after two weeks.

Oh and Does anyone else think Aikman should be banned from calling Cowboys games?
Seriously he was awful. I hate Buck and Aikman any way but they were terrible today. I listened to the Score on my way home and the host had taken all these notes during the game on stupid stuff Aikman said that was incredibly biased. Like:
Before the 3rd and 15 play that was the 59 yarder to Knox Buck said “I don’t think Mike Martz has anything in his playbook for 3rd and 15.” (Aikman agreed)
As the Bears scored their 20th point of the 1st half Aikman said “This [Cowboys] defense is hard to score on” (Really, when they’re giving up 20 in a half?)
Jeez Aikman, it’s hard to understand you when you’ve got Romo’s dick in your mouth.

I didn’t find anything said by Aikman egregious. Commenting on the team he knows more about? Pretty fair, human and understandable.
Every announcer flubs a line or twelve a game. I thought he gave fair credit to Jay, he seemed especially impressed by Jay’s accuracy on the deep ball.
The ’boys defense is pretty good. Especially that front calling them “difficult to score on” should be a compliment, the Bears did a good job against a talented team.
Wish everyone would calm down on the announcer’s “dissing” the Bears. We won today, in case no one remembers.
Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it. -George Halas
I prefer
when the announcers are down on the Bears. When we walk off with the win, they look stupid. I really enjoy when people look stupid. :)
Well, when other people look stupid. It makes a change from our guys looking stupid (cue Jerry/Lovie soundbites).

Ya I heard that today
Greeny said the Bears are the team, that’s making him Just Shut-Up.
Teams that start 0-2
Have, in the past, reach the playoffs only 13 percent of the time. Teams that start 2-0 reach the playoffs 64 percent of the time…
Just sayin, Vikes… Just sayin…
Woot
I’ll admit to some serious reservations in the first quarter. After the beating Jay took on the first series, Williams going out, and the Dallas punt return TD I had to take a Monty Python break and ponder benching Cutler to spare his life ala preseason San Diego. Came back after missing the Olsen TD. Have to agree that it was refreshing to see actual adjustments in game no less.
The D is laying down the hits again, also good.
Moore finally played with a nose for the ball the way he had been advertised. Still too early to anoint him though.
Funny thing, watched a FF advice bit before the game and someone advised taking Aromashodu saying that Cutler would be looking to him as the safety net when Dallas blitzed. I hate FF but I’m sad that didn’t work out because I was happy at the time to see someone actual recommend a Bears receiver. Of course a rundown of FF QBs had Romo as a top 10 and Cutler not even on the list, very glad that advice didn’t pan out.
Overall good day to be a Bears fan. Bears win, Cowgirls and Vikings both 0-2. Happy day.
Also Hester needs to be taken off punt returns. Not sure what exactly he’s lost but he’s lost it. He’s getting better as a receiver though.

I listened to the game on my drive to visit family. I am actually lucky that the game was televised locally so I set my dvr to record and I’ll be able to watch the game tomorrow. Passing commuters must have wondered what was up with me as I clapped and pumped my fist in excitement (but I dont care). Actually I started listening on the Cowboys broadcast for whatever reason the Bears broadcast didnt start on time. It was horrible listening to the Dallas broadcasters hyping up thier team, was grateful when the Bears broadcasting finally came on. (I have Sirius satalite radio). Looking forward to next weeks game against the Pack. This will be a good, tough game but I am hopeful that the Bears can come away with a win.

I was watching the game at friends’, sitting in the corner with a laptop and headphones while they were watching the Michael Moore film Sicko. During one of the heart-wrenching bits in the film, all eyes turned to me as I fist-pumped and went “Yessss!” as Hester caught the short pass and took it to the 3, leading to Forte’s TD reception. Cutler was outstanding again, and to see Jerry Jones’ purple face at the end was priceless. Bring on Green Bay!
I'd like to see some crow eaten by a lot of the experts when the sports shows ramp up this morning...
but I suspect most analysis of the game will begin with “So Commentator X, what’s wrong with those Cowboys.”
Skip Bayless may give us some credit, he seems to like Cutler and not like Romo.

2. Tice is a smart coach

4. Omi pass protection was great
5. Is it too soon to call C Dub a Bust?

8. Martz is a smart coach too
9. Dj and the D made their plays
10. Once again the Boys are OVERRATED!!!

Why did everyone want Jay to be benched for his own safety?
He’s paid to stand in the pocket, release the ball, and get knocked around. It doesn’t give the team the best chance to win when he’s on the bench.

I thought that the O-Line did a horrible job on the first 3 drives of the game, but came together after that. I am proud to be a BEARS fan. Have been my whole life, and it wasn’t easy growing up in Raider Nation, and Niner Town. I am very pleased for the win, I wish truly that Lovie Smith can do some thing about that cover 2 defense they run. Romo still got 376 passing yards on us and that does not say much for our pass defense. Overall it was a solid win!!!!! GO BEARS

Curt Menefee got it right
After the esteemed panel of Fox Experts dismissed the Bears as nothing but cannon fodder for the Cowboys — all 5 forecast an easy ’Boys victory..
Studio host Curt Menefee ended the pregame show with the line – “… since you’ve ALL picked the Cowboys, the Bears, obviously — are going to win.” The ‘experts’ chuckled.
