Have you ever wondered?
I was just sitting here thinking about what could possibly have gone wrong in the last couple of years to lead to this temporary downfall of our team.
Then I thought, What if a few things would have went differently.
1. Kyle Orton remains our QB and we save our draft picks. We could have used those two picks on either o-lineman or d-backs. ( and regardless of wins, Orton doesnt turnover the ball like we have all come to know a little too much)
2. We keep Orton and use one of the 2 first round picks we gave away to draft a QB? Within the last 2 years, there have been some good QB's in the draft. and we could have still used the other 1st rounder to draft some protection.
3. We trade down with our first round picks to stock up on 2nd and 3rd round picks to draft more o-line and d-back prospects.
4. None of this happened because we lack a stellar coaching staff.

What if we got Rogers
Remember. it was 2005. we had the #4 pick. we needed a QB. some had Rogers Ranked as the #1 QB. We tooc a RB. Bust. it was Cedric. Even though we had a Good RB in Thomas Jones. If we had taken Rogers and he Started right away…. well look at Joe Flaco or Matt Rayan or hell Mark Sanchez. We had a dominant Defense and Runing Game in 05 & 06. Rogers was not going to pass for 4,000 yrd his first 2 years like in GB but he could have eliminated the turnovers and won us a SB. and right now GB would still be hanging on to Farve and Min would be an only run team and we will be Division Winners….. ohh What if…… What if……. What if………….

Good point.....
My pnly thought to the contrary is to wonder how Turner would have developed him. Another Rex?

That's true also
Same with Matt Cassel. He wasn’t the greatest talented phenom, but he had a good team around him. He also had good coaches who knew how to develop every single player, not just the starters, as many would think is the case in New England.

Except in '05, Rex hadn't flopped yet.
We weren’t even considering QB at that point. I remember hoping Edwards or Williams would fall to us, so that wouldn’t have done much for us either.

I hated that draft
They should have done what ever it took to trade down

The move for Cutler was the right move...
The Bears got a better QB and a starting WR out of the deal. If you want to question some of the recent Bears moves, start with the TJ trade for Bazuin and Wolfe and throw in some D Manning and Haynes and now Gilbert and Iglesias for good measure. Add to that C Williams, Dusty, Okwo, and Dan Lefevour and getting a good QB and WR tandem isn’t so bad. IMO, if the Bears just drafted better players and worried less about the “value” of their “draft gems”, they wouldn’t be as shallow in the talent pool!

Angelo and Smith have screwed themselves by looking for “value” picks instead of looking at what the player has to offer now.

with this coaching staff....
Peyton Manning himself would turn into a bust. I don’t regret the Cutler trade because with a competent coaching staff and OLine he’d be the same guy that he was in Denver
