The 53 man roster:

Before it gets started,
Tim Shaw would not be eligible for the PS.

still shocked that Gillbert was dumped so quickly
I always had the feeling that his only contribution would be jumping out of a damn swimming pool.

Nope
because pre-draft experts said he was interchangeable at DT and DE.

I've read it, but it doesn't stick.
The two DE’s picked up after Gilbert, Michael Johnson and Matt Shaughnessy, didn’t start and still was able to get on the field and contribute.

I know what you mean,
but you also have to consider their schemes and availabilities (pre-existing personnel), versus ours.
Also
Melton stepped it up at the 3-tech and Wootton is a “prototypical” DE in this scheme. That made Gilbert expendable in a numbers crunch, IMO.

yeah, looks like gilbert ended up being a bad fit
didn’t have the fast-twitch to be a 3-technique DT (what he was supposed to be), and simply wasn’t fast enough to be a DE. he’ll have a better chance in a 3-4.

Jensen reports that he’s gone with the Jets practice squad.

If Rex Ryan thinks he has potential, Gilbert could possibly become one of the "whatifs" is Bears lore
probably closer to a "wtf"
As in WhyTF draft a prototypical 3-4 end for a 4-3 defense?

The guy they actually wanted went to KC the pick immediately prior to the Bears’ (despite scouts’ warnings). Word is that the draft room went into panic mode. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the Chicago Bears brain trust.

Glad they haven't given up on Iglesias yet

And he hasn't given up on the Bears.
Apparently, he passed on an opportunity(s) to land on another PS.
It’s a long season and, given the number of pure WR’s on the 53, he may see the field before the season’s end. It could turn out to be a good move on both parts.

once the safeties get healthy, i assume one will be dropped
and iglesias brought back. the safety injury problem was a major issue in terms of final cuts

I read that too (Biggs, or someone said that),
but the idea of dropping a safety and only having 4 scares me.
If it makes you feel better..
in the event of an injury the dropoff between our 5th safety and a guy grabbed mid-season off the waiver wire is negligible.

Folsom is fast, according to Biggs. Perhaps Malast was claimed?

not surprised at all when you’re talkin about the Angelovie era.

Probably in Iowa.
Damn, I wish he’d made the team.
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
I remain a pessimistically hopeful Bears fan.
That tackle in the box that he whiffed on, badly, probably sealed his fate with the Bears.

practice squad
A little surprised Malast wasn’t picked up for the PS…I had him on the 53 in the projections I made. Maybe the Folsom kid can be a good ST guy in the future, but he seems very similar to Shaw in my opinion.
Weknesses !!!
Nothing yet has lessened my nervousness about our OL and CB’s. Maybe with 8 OL and 6 CB’s they can be kept fresh during the game. Other than that, I still am nervous !
LeFevour Gone??
I mean…why draft him in the first place? He should a lot of progress in his pre-season. Could have been the Bears next starter in 3 seasons or so…for a team that has as bad a history of QBs as any in the league…why let this kid go? A hometown kid no less…if he becomes the next Tony Romo…

They couldn't keep him on the active roster
The only option they had was to slip him through to the practice squad

And Angelo mentioned during yesterday's press conference
(or town hall meeting, whatever you prefer) that there was never an intention of placing LeFevour on the PS. I reckon his offseason workout was all they needed to see to cut him.
stupid draft pick
Now I’m going to have to go back and look at the players the Bears could have drafted instead of a QB

But...
Do you trust Angelo to say in public that he gambled and it didn’t pay off? I’m not saying that he, for sure, was going to place Danny Boy on the PS, but I am saying that, if they were planning on it, Angelo would never admit it.
