Words Of Wisdom From Trent, Deion, and MJD
I was not intending to post anything, but the comments being made are starting to get to me. Hearing the stupidity coming from regular fans, particularly fans of other teams, is one thing, but coming from players and former players is just too much.
Let's start with Maurice Jones-Drew, who had this to say: "All I'm saying is that he can finish the game on a hurt knee ... I played the whole season on one." Except you didn't, Maurice. Your team was is a prime position to make the playoffs this year. Then you dropped your last three games, including a home game against the powerhouse Redskins, lead by Rex Grossman. Oh, and you sat out the last two games because you were hurt.
Moving on to Deion Sanders, we heard gems like "Im telling u in the playoffs u must drag me off the field. All the medicine in pro lockerooms this dude comes out! I apologize bear fans! . . . Folks i never question a players injury but i do question a players heart." Ya know Deion, I bet Carlton Fisk might have something to say about that. Looking at your career stats Deion, there were exactly four seasons where you played in a full 16 games, and one of those was your last year with Baltimore when you weren't even starting. You spent your entire career chasing dollar signs and personal glory, but you have the balls to talk about how you always played for the fans. Piss off. You were a damn good corner. You were fast as hell (though not as fast as Wille Gault), and you were incredible in coverage. You also played like a p*ssy, and everyone knew it. If you can find ten clips from your pro career of you making an aggressive, honest to god wrap-em-up and drive-em-down tackle, I'll print out this post, cover it with wing sauce, and fry it up for dinner.
And now on to everyone's favorite former QB, Trent Dilfer. I'm not able to give a specific quote from Dilfer due to some firewall issues, but it was pretty similar to the rest of the comments being made, questioning Cutler's heart and flaunting the typical "If that was me out there..." b.s. that former players love to trot out. Like so many others, Trent seems to forget his own history. Much like Sanders, Dilfer had exactly four seasons where he played the full schedule, so maybe he's not quite the warrior he remembers himself as being. ---I've since found this quote: "You can play this position (QB) hurt," Dilfer said on ESPN. "Some of us have." I guess Trent never left a game or missed any part of the season with an MCL injury...
It doesn't pertain to the current situation, but since Dilfer is so fond of trashing Cutler, I'd like to throw this out there. 1995 was Dilfer's first year as a full-time starter. After playing a full season, starting all 16 games, Dilfer ended with this amazing stat-line: 4 TD's, 18 INTS, 47 sacks, 60.1 passer rating. No, that's not a typo. He threw for FOUR TD's while starting an entire season!!! In his first five years, four of which he started the full slate of games, he never cracked 60 passing TD's. He also has the honor of being considered the worst QB to ever "win" a Super Bowl. He was cut following that season. Yet he actively trashes players who play better accidentally than he ever did on purpose.
My favorite Yahoo! columnist, Les Carpenter, also felt the need to chime in. In this brilliant piece of, uhh, writing, he claims that not only did Cutler not look hurt, but that he didn't even limp. The only way he could have not seen him limping was if he didn't bother to watch the game. Considering the usual quality of his work, I'd say that's quite possible.
Was it disheartening seeing our starting QB sitting on the sideline? Of course it was. Does he act like a surly 15 year old at times? Yup. But to question his toughness is just ridiculous. Cutler has had his ass beaten senseless for the last 20 weeks. The only time he came out was after being severely concussed, due to the nine sacks he took in the first half of the Giants game in week 4. To think that he would play through all the shots that he's taken only to quit on the cusp of an NFC championship is asinine. Cutler is a scrambling quarterback playing behind a problematic offensive line, to put it politely. If he has legitimate MCL damage, he would have been a sitting duck lined up under center.
One final thought to wrap this up; does anyone really think that the rest of the team, and I'm think specifically of Brian Urlacher, wouldn't have been all over him if he thought he wasn't really hurt? Be careful not to hurt yourselves jumping off the bandwagon, folks. I'm sure we'll see you all again the next time the Bears put together a few good games.

Great write up
I hope Jay can keep ignoring all this media bs and just continues to do his thing.

I'd like to see
someone bring these points up to these players and ex-players. That’s one horrible stat line Dilfer.
My only question is: why wouldn’t the Bears coaches let him out there for a play or two to decide if it was a lost cause or not? Or was Cutler already hurt coming out of halftime…I don’t believe he was.

nice write up
Especially about Deion.. Man that guy was a serious pansy..
If you can find ten clips from your pro career of you making an aggressive, honest to god wrap-em-up and drive-em-down tackle, I’ll print out this post, wrap it around a football, and forcibly sodomize myself with it.
As for Cutlers knee injury I just hope he gets better and can continue to improve his play. Just look at what happened to QB’s like Culpepper or Palmer after they got injured…
It's a lot easier to love the Vikings when they win...
They tore their whole knee (multiple ligaments)
Jay only partial tore one ligament. He’ll be just fine.

All the fans I watched the game with
were calling Jay a wuss…yet none of them have ever had knee injuries…I have…when your ACL is damaged (torn or totally gone like mine was…you can walk just fine after it happens, but running is hard and you CAN NOT sidestep at all…the surgeons that repaired my knee told me that if you tear your ACL you can run in a straight line all day, but as soon as you step to the left or right, your knee gives and then it swells, which happened to me a lot before I had the surgery.
"Word of advice, don’t join, Bears fans are crazy."--- D-Jackfan10
THIS
I tore my ACL too, I didn’t limp, didn’t use crutches until after my surgery…BUT I can’t imagine dodging 300 + lbs dudes, planting on that leg, running…anything that Jay would have to do with our crappy O-Line.
The issue isn’t movement, it’s stability, which some people will never get. It’s really easy to offer criticism watching a game.

The people that bitch about Cutler being surly
were the same ones that used to bitch about Erik Kramer on the sidelines that he was laughing and joking around and that he wasn’t taking it serious enough. People just love to bitch..

Good read!
The ironic part to me is that Hanie came in and produced when Jay could not, injury or no.
"More cowbell" - Bruce Dickinson; "More bell cow" - Lovie Smith
Um, maybe
and I’m really happy with how Hanie played, but the dude did throw two picks, one of them a pick-6.
I'm not so mean. I wouldn't ever go out to hurt anybody deliberately - unless it was, you know, important, like a league game or something. - Dick Butkus
True!
Capers faked him out by dropping Raji into coverage. The second one basically desperation/end of game.
"More cowbell" - Bruce Dickinson; "More bell cow" - Lovie Smith
It's sad that Chicago has been absent of good QBs for so long that when we have one
everyone is still ready to throw him under the bus, running out of town, etc. Jay has a very bright future in Chicago and I think that we will see it if we can put this behind us, get Jay healthy and get him a couple missing pieces this off season.
I will never question Jay’s leadership as long as guys like Chris Harris, Olin Kreutz and Urlacher are defending him. The latter 2 of those 3 have been with the team since I first got into watching the Bears. I have a TON of respect for them and I know that they are held in a high regard league-wide as well. Kreutz said he could see Jay’s like shaking. You can’t say he didn’t try.
Donovan McNabb didn’t get this lambasted when he puked in the Super Bowl. Everyone shut up. Jay Cutler is tough and if THIS leads you to turn on the Bears, newsflash, you were never a fan.

Great write up!
I’m one of those who isn’t sold on Cutler ever being the QB we hoped he would be when they traded for him, but I would never question his toughness or the decision to take him out of the game after an injury. He has done nothing to warrant anyone questioning that part of his game or personality in the two years he’s been here.
I’d like to see him make more progress next season, assuming there are no coaching changes, and convince me that he has the mental makeup to be a championship QB. That has nothing to do with his injury yesterday, it’s more about his decision making and stepping up his play in big games.
Great calls, though, on Deion (overrated player in my opinion) and Dilfer (not even a decent player in my opinion). They both are morons.
Cowboys fan
feel compelled to comment on Cutler and anatomy.
the early report is that Cutler had a torn MCL. The MCL and the LCL are the ligaments on the outside of the knee. In terms of mechanical function (at least my understanding), the MCL and LCL are much more important than the ACL/PCL. It’s possible to walk around on a torn ACL. You can even play football on it (in fact I played HS football with a torn ACL).
It’s not possible to do that with a torn MCL.
I think people are confused because a torn ACL is considered a more serious injury. But that’s only because there’s no blood flow to the ACL so it doesn’t heal itself. You have to have it replaced with a graft. Hence an ACL reconstruction. The existing ACL is completely drilled out and replaced with a graft. That results in 12 month recovery.
The MCL does have blood flowing to it so it can heal itself. The recovery is much shorter. So it’s considered a less severe injury … but from a functional perspective a torn MCL is a much bigger mechanical problem.

Too bad we don't have Dilfer's comments
He was on Cowherd today and backtracked, and said almost exactly what you did about being hammered behind a line all year and not saying anything.

I felt kind of stupid talking about it without being able to use an actual quote,
but the firewalls at work severely limit what I can pull up. I couldn’t find a transcript, and all the video was blocked. I’m at home now, but I still can’t find it. I’m almost positive I saw negative comments from him yesterday (might have been from Twitter), but I’m gonna feel like an ass if it was actually someone else.

He said you couldn't question Cutler's toughness, but his mentality
In explaining that, Dilfer said, “I wanted to see Jay try to run out on the field, after he was told not to. And maybe have a trainer or someone grab him by the jersey and yank him off the field.”
This isn’t an exact quote, but its pretty damn close.
I heard that.. I'd like to know exactly when that ever happened with anyone.
Was he supposed to do it just for show? So the Dilfer’s and the Sander’s and all those other assclowns could sit back and say, Oh he’s a really gutsy competitor and you can never question his desire to be on the field, give me a break if it’s not one thing than it would be something else. They should be forced to answer for why they jumped to such an extreme anyway. For them to come on air and immediatly blast him like that with no facts just shows me what type of people they really are. Although I kinda already knew anyway.
Adrian Pedestrian!! Now that's funny Mr. Bayless...
Then maybe he could have dropped to the ground and thrown a tantrum, too.
“You can play this position (QB) hurt,” Dilfer said on ESPN. “Some of us have.”
This is the quote I was referring to originally in the post. I finally found it and added it up top.

I grew up loving and idolizing Deion Sanders
But for a guy who backed Mcnabb and who will take shots and Jay Cutler even when Cutler peformed Marvelously? No Thank You, Deion Sanders you lost a fan.

Here's what I don't get
Where in the HELL do any of these players, who, as Urlacher said, are sitting on their asses watching a team other than theirs play in the title game, get off commenting at all about Cutler?? I mean, what makes Dockett or Drew think I give a rat’s ass what they think? STFU.
No one knew the full story until today, so anyone with a brain and an ounce of professional respect would keep their mouths shut. And even then, who still cares what they freaking think? I sure hope Jones Drew comes across the middle against the Bears some time soon. Hopefully Urlacher will show him what it’s like to have to play hurt after that.

Great Post!
I’m most upset about Trent Dilfer. Most TV talking heads don’t bother me, and I cut former players some slack, but throughout this season (and others) I’ve been infuriated by Trent Dilfer. For someone who was such an awful player, the butt of the joke when the Ravens won the Super Bowl, he sure likes to tell you how much Jay (and others) can’t cut it. Whats worse is that he often brings up his own “experience” as if he were Dan Marino relating to you how a Hall of Famer does it.
"Smells like burning hair and week-old Arby’s." - the stench of Steve Finley
The guy was freakin terrible.
It’s one thing for an ex-player to act as an analyst, no matter how good they actually were as a player; you can be a great analyst or coach without being a good player. But to use your position to just run your mouth about people is pathetic. Eventually one of these guys are gonna get the living piss beaten out of them when they shoot their mouth off in the wrong location, not realizing that one of the players is around.

Growing up in my house
We always joked that Deion was out with a broken fingernail or a stubbed toe. In my eyes Deion has no room to talk on the toughness issue. The dude was consistently one of the least toughest players in the league.

Nice Post, JerBear
But to question his toughness is just ridiculous. Cutler has had his ass beaten senseless for the last 20 weeks. The only time he came out was after being severely concussed, due to the nine sacks he took in the first half of the Giants game in week 4.
Agreed 100%
Dilfer
I’ve been saying all along,Dilfer is a rag. he never was even a good backup much less a starter. he was out of any game where he got as much as a hangnail. what a piss ant. He got a lot of nerve to question Cutler’s toughness. I know he’s over paid as an NFL analyst. He should start by analyzing his own career as a player.
Dilfer Again?
Jerbear50,
You were right about Dilfer’s comments about Cutler. Of the ESPN analyzers,he was the worst critic. I’ve been a football fan for over 55 years,so I know a lousy player when I see one. Dilfer fits that role. He knows about quitters because he was one. But he knows nothing about courage because he had none. It’s easy at the end of your career to judge someone you would have played 4th behind. Tim Collins had a better record than Dilfer. Keep up the good work. Jerbear50,not Dilfer.
Nicely said, especially about the Dilfous.

Partly staying away from all things NFL in the wake of the latest brouhaha over Jay Cutler – I’m pretty disgusted by the sheer idiocy on show, to be frank. It’s also the start of the rugby Six Nations and I’ve been catching up on all the rugby news that I’ve neglected while the Bears were still in the running.
Gawd, I hate Dilfer.
