Cutler: Tell Martz I Said F You!

As the Bears are coming out of the huddle last night against the Vikings, underneath Cris Collinsworth's voice, Jay Cutler screams something toward the sidelines that sounds like "Tell Mike I said 'F--- him!' "

Star-divide

You might need to watch it a couple of times to catch it and I guess the exact are arguable, but once you hear it the first time, it seems loud and clear every time.

EDIT: Found a version with a bit clearer sound, where it sounds more like "f--- him", instead of "f--- you".

I doubted at first when I heard it live

but after listening a couple times, I think he said something along those lines. Definitely an “F U” somewhere in there, which wouldn’t surprise me at all.

I heard "Tell him I said F___ him!" but I dunno if its Martz.

Listening again

I’m pretty sure it’s “F*** YOU” not “him.” The rest, I’m not sure.

It’s fun to be scrutinizing this part of Cutler instead of whether he’s a “quitter” or not.

This is just sad.

Why does it matter what he said exactly? No one but Jay and the people involved know who it was directed at. Saying anything else is nothing more than speculation, at best.

*This is not directed at you SMD, just the entire debate over what he said, and who it was about.

It's not sad or speculation

It’s video proof of him saying it to someone and it probably was Martz. Besides I haven’t heard anyone denying it. Have you?

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Oct 18, 2011 12:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Why would a team even give light to negative press?

That’s not exactly status quo for the Bears management.

And yes, it’s speculation… because no one knows who it was in reference to. Some even say Cutler was telling a receiver to tell a DB to frak off. But all of this is a crystal clear definition of speculation.

What’s sad is that so many are trying to read lips / listening to youtube videos over and over looking for some kind of infighting between our QB and OC.

Yeah I hear what you're saying

but you don’t have to read that deep between the lines to realize that there’s some friction between Cutler and Martz. Just listen to Cutler in Post games over the last few weeks and you can pick that much up. And for the record, I’m absolutely fine with it. If it helps the team perform better by giving in to the QBs wishes in terms of how to run the offense then great.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Oct 18, 2011 1:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, it's speculation, but it's not baseless

There have been hints that Cutler is dissatisfied with the play-calling and this video is only the latest “hint.” I don’t think he was yelling at a WR, based on where he was looking at. That eliminates some possibilities, but we’ll probably never know for sure.

It’s not a huge deal (and I wouldn’t even call it “negative press”), but I find it interesting just to see that Cutler is making his voice heard (literally) and trying to make this team successful again.

If you think it’s a stupid story to follow, then don’t follow it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was his response to a joke on the sidelines. The Bears pretty much had it wrapped up by the time it occured.

This is like those EVP

“ghost voices” clips that people put out on shows like coast to coast AM.

I heard something…but it was so garbled and low that it could have been just about anything. If it was Cutler cussing out Martz though, can you really blame him.

Actually, I'd be quite cool if they ran it.

Cuz this has absolutely nothing negative to say about Cutty, at least compared to every other football player (and, really, guy) in existence. But it does speak to his level of frustration with Mad Martz over the offense.

I'm not sure.

I think he says “not one egg, I’d like two”.

Or, “there’s a rock in my shoe”.

Maybe, “Brookfield Zoo”.

I just don’t get why he’d yell at Martz. Martz is normally asleep in the 2nd half.

by Tat14 on Oct 18, 2011 4:13 PM CDT reply actions

I just want to throw my two cents in

We all love the Bears. We like to follow them. Good or bad. I understand what David is saying but I also think this may be important as it leads to Cutler getting to open up a little and call his plays, etc. He is starting to express his dislike of the playcalling and possible the whole scheme.

By the way, I really, strongly believe he said “tell him I said f—- him”. Did he then call his own play or use what they told him and expressed how he felt about it?

Just as easily could have been directed at say Jared Allen or a member of the opposition

Maybe you pointed it out first in the Den...

But I caught it when it happened (Oct 16, 2011 9:51 PM EDT ).

Me: Did anyone else catch Cutler yelling “F*ck you” at someone after breaking the huddle on 3rd down?

Juperee: srsly?

Me: Yep. He was pissed after the Hester drop, and broke the huddle for the next play, looked towards the right-hand sideline, and yelled it. The camera was overhead, but zoomed in on him, and I heard the audio very clearly.

Spongie: That’s just poor leadership, not giving a crap, quitting on his team, and all that jazz.

Juperee: Maybe he meant it affectionately.

Martz is gone after this year

I think either Cutler is going to get fatally injured from all the sacks or Martz is gone after this year. It was a good run, but clearly Martz is not going to change from the pass with no protection game plan. I actually thought that if the Bears struggle, then Martz would replace Lovie, but its clear now that any struggles will be blamed on Martz.

So I guess it was at Martz. Jay doesn’t even act like it was in question who it was levied at.

No it's not.

What we know for a fact is that we don’t really know. We make an assumption, based on theory. That’s not a stretch.

It’s just like last season, after the Bye week, Mike Martz’s play-calling was a bit different than before the Bye. Everyone made statements like “Lovie must have really gotten on him”… Even members of the media started making the assumptions that Martz changed it up because Lovie must have gotten after him behind closed doors. But that is just the assuption… We don’t know if it happened, and it’s not a stretch to say that we don’t know for sure.

by Dane Noble on Oct 23, 2011 11:31 AM CDT up reply actions

Except...

That both Martz and Cutler havve been questioned about it and have responded. Now, If Cutler didn’t say this to Martz, wouldn’t he say that he didn’t? Wouldn’t he get that controversy off of the table? Instead, he responded to the question as if it was exactly what happened.

Make no bones about it. If Cutler hadn’t said this to Martz, he would have denied it in the first place. He wasn’t asked if it was what was said. He was asked why it was said, which means that there was no reason for a confirmation, but there was reason for a denial if it didn’t happen. You don’t get asked why did you eat that sandwich?" and respond with “Yes, I ate that sandwich.”

It serves no purpose for Cutler to let a rumor like that get by if it isn’t true. In fact, it’s damaging.

So, yes. I think it is a bit of a stretch.

We also don’t know for sure that there is gravity. It is technically a unproven theory. But it’s also an accepted theory based on what evidence we do have. Constantly dismissing gravity because it is a theory is a bit of a stretch. And so was this.

Now, If Cutler didn’t say this to Martz, wouldn’t he say that he didn’t? Wouldn’t he get that controversy off of the table? —> We don’t know. We can only guess.

It serves no purpose for Cutler to let a rumor like that get by if it isn’t true. —> But that doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t let it get by.

And your gravity theory is silly. That is a scientific theory, which is different from the Cutler cuss. And it it is not unproven… Theories cannot be proven; they can only be disproved. But that is science. We’re not talking about science.

Look, I don’t care one way or the other. But people are funny. They wanted it to be about Martz. Even the title of this FanPost is a guess. No one knows what Cutler said or to whom it was said. And him keeping it to himself is not an admission of guilt.
