2 wild cards, same division?

My boyfriend and are in the midst of a debate and consultation of the NFL rules has lead nowhere. Is it possible for two teams from the same division to win both wild card slots? Obviously, the Packers are going to win the division. But could both the Bears and Lions win the wild card slots? Thanks.

I need help settling a debate.

Yes, most definitely.

It’s all based off records.

Look at the 2007 Regular Season Standings:

1.Cowboys
2. Packers
3. Seahawks
4. Giants
5. Buccaneers
Redskins

Division Winners:
Cowboys
Packers
Seahawks
Bucs

Wild Card Teams

That's what I thought.

Excellent, thanks.

I'm sorry your boyfriend is ridiculous and can't comprehend the rules of football.

lol it was a civilized discussion.

I’m usually the pig-headed one. I am going to go off into a quiet corner and perform my victory dance, which I rarely get to do.

To my knowledge, certain things were not known.

Don't do it quietly

Cheer for all the world to see!

Right now we own the tie breaker vs Bucs and Falcons

Gotta beat the Eagles!!!

Don't forget

We also would own the tiebreaker once we beat the Lions in Chicago this year.

Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

That's TBD... but I like your thinking :)

Under the old six division system 4 out of 5 teams

from a division could actually make the playoffs. One example was in 1994 with the Bears, Vikings, Packers, and Lions all going to the playoffs.

That is insane for all those teams to do good and the other divisions to do terribly.
