Not really all that worried about him ....

…. considering how I was never really on the Fairley bandwagon .

He is a rookie and was sidelined with an injury for 4 games

The Lions d-line is now elite if it wasn’t already with Fairley in there. All Fairley will do is give the starters more rest and the backups a boost. I doubt he will have much of an impact outside of maybe a sack or a couple tackles for a loss. Than again, if this guy is the second coming of Suh than Jay Cutler is really gonna be in trouble.

He's not Suh.

But, putting a borderline ProBowler (at worst) directly next to a future DPOY and a former AllPro can only spell disaster for a bad (at best) Bears offensive line.

by Doshi on Oct 6, 2011 4:10 PM CDT up reply actions

agreed

i fear this will get very ugly very fast (for Cutler)unless our Bears can somehow establish a running game

How can you possibly know he’s NFL elite?

I think he misspoke...

you see Fairley is a big fan of MMO’s but he’s had very little experience with World of Warcraft. He’s not “elite”, he’s a L33T.

Hes either gonna be a boom or a bust . My honest guess is bust . The kid ....

… ain’t the the work ethic like Suh , the drive like Suh , the will to win like Suh or the talent of Suh . I just think this kid is gonna disappear in games . Could I be wrong ? Yeah , but his tape shows litttle to nothing to show otherwise .

I think having a guy like Suh next to him and a coach like Schwartz could have a positive effect on him.

I’m not saying that those guys will ensure that Fairley is a Suh 2.0, but if Fairley busts, it won’t have anything to do with the environment he’s been drafted into. His environment is about as ideal as it can be for him to succeed.

See now you seem to get it Boourns . My concern with Fairley is he had the ....

…. best environment you could every wish for with the Tigers and would still disappear in some big games . Now the cup cakes he destroyed those fools thats fo’sure . But Marcell Darius & your boy Suh they just plain ball every snap .

@Bighaircut ….. His work ethic seems to be lacking so you may get that 15 snaps where he plays his heart out one game & the next get a dud for those same 15 snaps . And honestly it really doesn’t matter who you have around you , if the fire ain’t there it just ain’t there .

Fairly was a monster in college

and was discussed as a possible number 1 overall pick in the draft if not for a few character flaws. Dude is insanely athletic for his mammoth size. It’s going to be a scary dline once they get him up to game speed.

I don't think he'll be that big of a threat

considering he’s coming of an injury and hasn’t played a snap yet, not even in preseason. I’m guessing he’s going to be eased in, so we won’t see him that much. Still, huge potential for the Lions d-line with this kid.

You're never a loser until you quit trying - MIke Ditka

by DutchBear on Oct 6, 2011 4:22 PM CDT reply actions

As a Lions fan, I'm concerned that the biggest threat he represents is in getting a penalty for unloading on Cutler

If he breaks free and gets to the QB, he might just kill Cutler after being sidelined through all of pre-season and the first 4 games of the regular. A big reason why I’m hoping he’s only used sporadically to try and throw things off on your O-Line…maybe a 5-2 front or something.

He's talented, for sure...

But take Suh away from that DL and put in a league-average 4-3 DT, and that DL practically falls apart. The reason Avril got those 8.5 sacks was the same reason Izzy got 8 last year: all-world talent elsewhere sucking in offensive attention.

As a Lions fan I have been eargerly awaiting this, but...

He hasn’t played or practiced very much for weeks now. I don’t expect him to see the field very much. In this first game between the Lions and Bears he will probably have minimal impact if any. Sure, he has the potential to get a sack or stuff a play for a loss. It is more likely he will be a footnote to the game. It is likely that the Bears will have a lot mroe to fear from Fairley when we play later in the season.

I never met him, but he was family to me... R.I.P. Tom Kowalski We will all miss you.

Yes.

He could be very good later, but in his first live action? My bet, he’ll be rotated in.

Eh

its his first game ever coming of an injury and he’s a rookie…I’d be surprised if he got more than a couple tackles unless Jay runs into him or Omiyale is starting at guard. He may or may not be a stud in the future, but how many mid 1st round rookies DT’s have a major impact in their first game, much less season

The Bears have as much of a chance as the last 4 opponents did. Until the Lions win big and do it consistently, nobody should worry. I don’t see any team wanting to play us, but I see nobody worrying about us either, at least not right now.

Bears could still win this game and I wouldn’t even be surprised. People must not sleep on the Bears despite a rough start.

Ah-ha I have some good news regarding Chris Harris
Safety Chris Harris (hamstring), tight end Matt Spaeth (calf), guard/center Chris Spencer (hand) and cornerback Charles Tillman (hip) practiced on a limited basis.

However….

Receiver Earl Bennett (chest) and right tackle Gabe Carimi (knee) sat out practice with injuries Thursday as the Bears prepared for Monday night’s showdown against the Lions in Detroit.
