ESPN bottomline - Bears looking to claim Orton off waiver wire
When I first heard that DEN waived him, my first thought was "cool, the Bears can get him back while Jay is hurt". But then I thought about this more. I liked Orton a lot when he was a Bear. I think he was under-rated. But that system he played was pre-Martz. Its not like he'll walk in and know the 2011 Bears. If anything, we have a possible Orton v Cutler conflict. Hopefully he serves as only a veteran back-up for the sake of contingency. I want to see Hanie do well, and I think he can.

Sorry.
I just saw it on the TV, thus “bottomline”.
I used the fanshot chat option, not a quote here.
Here’s a link from ESPN Chicago:

There will be no Orton vs. Cutler debate ever.
Cutler > Orton on every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I agree, Cutler > Orton.
By conflict, I was thinking within the team. Locker room stuff – avoidable if each of them act professional.
I don’t expect any QB controversy. If this does go down, I imagine Orton is gone next year so the opportunity for “controversy” won’t be there anyway.
I would expect a debate though Lester. That’s why you have a blog, yes?
you could expect a debate
but I’m not sure one will break out…
Only the hardcore anti-Cutler people (I hate his pouty face and bad body language) will actually pine for Kyle. And even in the locker room, Cutler has everyones support. Many of these Bears never played with Kyle, but they’ve witnessed first hand the toughness of their guy.
And I’m an Orton fan.

Like you said, there will be no debate
We would be renting Orton, and he will be gone in the offseason. There will be teams on which he could compete for a starting job. The REAL qb controversy will begin if Hanie has a bad game. I want us to claim Orton very badly, I will feel a little safer knowing we have him as an emergency option in case Hanie and Enderle get injured or flame out. That being said, I do not think anyone actually wants Orton starting a game – that would mean that Hanie did not get the job done and that we are desperate. Orton is a solid qb, and I think the fans in Denver screwed up royally by rejecting him in favor of Te-Gimmick, but there is just not enough time for him to adjust to the system and everyone knows it. We are in deep trouble if we have Orton starting a game, but we still might be good enough to beat Minnesota, Denver, and the Chiefs. The only controversy that could erupt between Cutler and Orton is if Hanie and Enderle are no longer viewed as viable replacements and if Cutler is not quite healed – the decision being sticking with Orton or rushing Cutler back in time for (hopefully) the playoffs.

Found a good article from Moon which I've posted on fanshots that has some surprising developments
Kyle Orton not only wants to return to the Chicago Bears, but he already knows that Cutler is the starter and is willing to return to Chicago as a back-up.
Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

Well. Cutler is the "ensconced" starter.
