Chicago Bears pass protection issues a team effort
Chicago was well under the ‘10 sack pace with Jay Cutler directing the offense, but the last four weeks that number is trending upward with Caleb Hanie under center.

3 weeks from now
the chances are good we won’t see any more Martz or Hanie, but we will still have one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.

I like our OLine with the addition
of a really, really solid tackle. Either first round or free agent. Carimi’s young, malleable and versatile enough for either RT or LT. With Spencer, Louis, the Williams’ and Garza on the inside. Webb can serve as the swing tackle backup. So yeah, in my opinion, with the addition of one really solid OT (and some health) we have an above average Offensive Line. Am I wrong for thinking like this??? Seriously, I want to know. Maybe…

Agreed
I think we’re a solid LT (to pair with Carimi) away from having a stabilized O-line. Webb and Louis are too inconsistent on the edges, and we’re now seeing how Cutler’s mobility and pocket-presence may have been hiding some of their deficiencies.
I think you're spot on
We need to get ourselves a future left tackle in the draft. There’s not much in FA and I’d rather have Tice develop us a tackle, that’s what he’s good at. Draft LT, Ed Williams LG, Garza C, Spencer RG, Carimi RT, or go with Spencer at C and Louis at RG.

CWilliams should return to LG
EWilliams to RG and Spencer to C. Garza, Louis and Webb become backups.

I'd like to see Loius have a shot at guard

Sure, why not open up both guard spots and the center spot and let the best three win.
My response was mainly to say CWilliams played well enough at LG to warrant consideration next season.

I liked what what I saw from CWill at LG
And I’d like to see it for a full season next year. Just need that one OT/LT who’s clearly better than Webb. As to where everyone else fits in, I’ll trust Tice with all that. It’s that dummy JA who’s got the job I want.

I think they have the pieces for the three inside spots,
but they need a LT. Webb has not earned a starting spot based on his performance this season.

Chris Williams had flashes of greatness as a pulling guard
before the injury, It really setup Forte in a few of those games. I had flashbacks to Bortz and Thayer pulling out in front of good old sweetness. I might be giving CWill a bit more credit than he deserves but he seems to be a natural Guard and that’s saying something as I wanted to cut him before the season started.

Agreed, the OL is one LT away from being a solid unit.
Maybe that LT is Carimi (I am skeptical he is a NFL LT), but they need to go get one just in case he is not up to the task and has to stay at RT.

adding a really solid LT would go a long way to helping this OL
