Bears knocked out of playoff hunt at hands of Packers, lose 21-35
When the schedule was first released, the Bears-Packers game looked very intriguing... But when the game actually started, Chicago lined up their 3rd QB of the season, along with their #3 RB, thanks to injuries to Jay Cutler, Matt Forte, and Marion Barber, and to the benching of Caleb Hanie, a guy that Mike Martz never liked to begin with.
The Packers have not seen a lot of success on defense this season, but when facing an injury-depleted Bears offense, they didn't really have much to worry about. On one hand, Josh McCown and Kahlil Bell looked good tonight; on the other, Aaron Rogers looked much better. Some quick stats after the jump.
Josh McCown: 19/28, 242 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT, 76.8 Rating
Kahlil Bell: 23 rushes, 121 yds
Roy Williams: 6 rec, 81 yds
Aaron Rodgers: 21/29, 283 yds, 5 TD, 0 INT, 142.7 Rating
Ryan Grant: 8 rushes, 44 yds
Jordy Nelson: 6 rec, 115 yds, 2 TD
Bears penalties: 6-28
Packers penalties: 0-0
------------------------
As our 2011 playoff hopes are ended, we now get to look to the proverbial next season. A few questions that come to mind:
- Will Jerry Angelo come back to try and make one more run?
- WIll Mike Martz end up leaving town?
- What about Mike Tice, Rod Marinelli, and Dave Toub?
- What will be the biggest priority in next year's Draft?
We will have more analysis in the next few days, but feel free to drop your thoughts into the comments section below...

That's what Dungy is saying right now
maybe he gets to play a half.
Do the Lions play for anything at all next week, for that matter?

Yeah
It’s the difference between going to New York/Dallas or San Francisco/New Orleans.
So the Lions have more to play for than the Pack do. In addition, they may also want to go into the playoffs with some momentum.
McCown didn't play scared
Thats what I really liked what I saw, a few INTs but could have been alot worse as Hanie has showed us. Also McCown’s desire to take off running really impressed me, very solid first game back for the guy.

If he can follow up with another good performance...
he’s gotta be brought back next year. He has all the things Hanie lacks, brains and guts and talent. He played like he cared about the outcome. Too bad back-up QB isn’t the only position needing to be filled on this awful offense.

and 2 quality WRs and possibly a short yardage back. That’s a lot to fill in one offseason.

I'd say more like 1 or 2 O-Linemen
I was very impresed with E. Williams tonight. This was my first real chance to watch him and I think he looked very good. Throw in Carimi and Louis or C. Williams at the other guard spot and that’s 3 solid O-Linemen

Well this happens to be the 3rd time all season this Bears O-line didn't give up a single sack
So perhaps the 5 starters are already on the team, just let them all receive looks and place your best 5 on the field.

Forte didn't just falter
He was essentially shut down completely before he himself got hurt. But hey, if there’s a positive with this O-line, 3 separate RBs have recorded at least 100 yards rushing. So, it’s definitely not a finished product, but it’s something to build on.

What makes you think Carimi is the best? The Bears ran great and played well enough in his absense. His sample of play is too small to judge him next to someone like Chris.
Williams is still better until we see Carimi more.
Carimi showed a great deals of potential in his brief playing time

Our offensive line is ranked around 14th run blocking and 29th pass blocking
Running is just not enough, I remember well how Walter gained 275 yards against Minny and the Bears barely won and Minny was playing a 2nd string QB since Tarkington was injured.
The power running game was not that good last year with most of the rushing yards coming outside, but they have improved considerablely this year.
But, in the passing game they are giving up a sack 9.1% the league average is 6.8% this has just got to improve.

I feel Webb may be the one guy who needs to be replaced
Even though it’s just his 1st year as a LT in the NFL.
Garza’s replacement may already be here as already described above me. Spencer has looked rather good, and it may have been the plan all the long for Spencer to spend a year under Martz and Tice before taking over at Center.
Anyway in regards to LT, I’d say bring in a FA to at least compete for the job. We need more experience, not youth. We’ve got too much youth at either tackle position.

The Bears...
ran far too often to allow for much of a pass rush and McCown was the only reason there weren’t any sacks. McCown ran 8 times, all but one would have been a sack if not for his effort to run for yards and make positive yardage. That’s not good pass blocking.
There's a fine line between stupid...and clever!
Agreed
Over the past 2-3 years, when we’ve tried to pass against Green Bay, they’ve basically teed-off on Cutler and he hasn’t been able to establish much confidence or rhythm trying to throw the ball.
Conversely, the Packers have executed play-action perfectly and rolled Rodgers out of the pocket to buy him plenty of time to carve us up.

Kirkpatrick should be this team's first pick
This team needs a CB badly. It’s painfully obvious. Screw OL… this team has a dominant OL in the run game, a QB that knows how to make plays behind a bad pass blocking OL, plus the OL will be healthier next season, and a FA can be added somewhere.
A CB is necessary. Kirkpatrick should be available in the middle of the first round, and he’s probably the only potential top flight CB in this draft class. With him and Tillman on opposite sides and Moore on the slot, this team could be a lot better against the pass.
Also, I know Lovie isn’t going anywhere, so I’d at least hope he rethinks a lot of stuff this offseason. The LB showing blitz needs to be put to bed. That’s an old trick that only worked well for one season, and has only caused them to be a few steps behind TEs and slot receivers since. The way this team defends the pass needs to be changed. Lovie and Rod have a lot of work ahead of them this offseason.
Nice game out of McCown, Bell and Allen. Horrible game out of Bowman and the safeties. Unimpressive job by the entire defense today, except Peppers, who had his motor in high gear most of the game, but was stopped by the usual holding. Today there were even some hands to the face thrown in for good measure, just in case the jersey grabs and shoulder holds didn’t stop him.
this lack of holding calls
is really pissing me off. I think the refs are trying not to call it anymore. almost negates any 4 player pass rush we could put on.
Most games I'm fine with it.
You get used to it… and I generally am in the “let the players play” camp. A general rule for me is, if you can see a penalty on TV from your couch, in real time, without a replay, it probably should have been called.
Today’s game was worse than usual. Not quite as bad as the Broncos game, where Peppers was being half-nelsoned or tackled on each pass play, but it was still excessive in comparison to the norm.
It wasn’t the difference in the game, but I wish something could be done about it.
I agree
Horrible game out of Bowman and the safeties.
- Major Wright is a disgrace to the safety position. Apparently his feeble brain cannot grasp the idea of using your hands when making a tackle. No wonder he leads with his head; there’s nothing in it. Combine that with his lack of speed in coverage on the Jordy Nelson TD, and this guy pretty much diminished any chances of even sniffing a roster spot on the team next season.
- At the 2nd corner position we go from Jennings (undersized, commits too many interferences, exposed when playing single coverage) to Bowman (slow, outmuscled, commits penalties, and downright exposed). Damn, was that a significant change! A whole 360!!!
As far as Julius Peppers and his high motor goes, the entire defensive line certainly did not produce the necesarry pressure against the Packers’ patchwork of an offensive line.

Whoa whoa, you are being very reactionary for Wright who has played well in his sophomore year.
And you are being very unreasonable if you think he won’t be on the team next year or be the starter.
Jennings doesn’t commit the PIs, at least until his last start. And he is significantly weaker at man on man vs zone which is why he was benched. I do agree about Bowman.
Yes, I'm being reactionary after watching him play 2 seasons.
-Injury prone: Missed time last season with finger and hamstring issues, and this season with a shoulder injury. Further exacerbated by the way he likes to launch himself at opposing players → concussion after trying to hit Jimmy Graham @ New Orleans.
-Poor tackling. (…“tackling”.)
-Slow in coverage: Bites Brady’s pump fake, @ New Orleans , tonight
- Poor angles in support: 1:05 tonight, and saving the best for last… OUCH! (0:40)
I get that he’s young and is still learning the ropes, with the shuffling throughout the rest of the backfield this season. In the end, his poor fundamentals are extremely handicapping for a guy who is only 5’11" and doesn’t have the fastest Jets.

Right, he missed like 3 games and one was a benching this year.
He was originally a FS…..
Brady and Brees are the best QBs in the league. Brees is breaking the record for yardage for crying out loud. Rodgers is also a Top 5 guy that burns everyone.
And as you said, he has been in and out and moving around. That is like Cutty learning three offenses in three years.
Ummm no.
In the Tampa 2 the safeties are more or less inter-changeable, meaning he doesn’t have to “learn three offenses”, especially since Lovie’s defense has been here since ’04. All he realistically has to do is a) cover the deep seam and not get beaten or b) play man on the TE or motioning receiver.
Having Major Wright in the backfield is a major liability; he is a poor tackler, has poor instincts in the open field, and often gets beat and doesn’t have the speed to recover. Throw in the fact that the guy has trouble seeing the field for more than half the season, and he’s a bust in my book.
E.F.K.
I was talking about the instability factor, not the actual differences in the safety positions.
Playing, being injured or on the bench, switching spots and responsibilities is just as chaotic (for a young guy especially) as a person learning three different playbooks.
He obviously doesn’t have poor instincts since he was billed as a ballhawk and a guy around the ball. He wasn’t said to be fast, but he had a decent 4.44 dash.
He has played 3 quarters of the season and a game or two was taken away due to coaches decision….over blowing his injuries.
Given his size, he isn’t bound to be a great wrap up tackler, but does pack punch (which is needed at SS). SS is the position that requires hitting over speed and coverage (which is why ex-cornerback Conte plays the FS, because he is fast and can cover). Tackling should improve with time. He has performed above his 3rd round status to date being a solid safety and at times is our best DB. His three picks (ballhawking a plus in the draft) leads the team.
Also, he is somehow tied for 6th in tackles on the team (most for safeties) despite missing so much time....
His tackling isn’t that bad, it is just highlighted since he is a safety.
Hate to break it to you.
This is the NFL. Everyone has to face top tier quarterbacks like Brees, Brady, etc. The videos I posted are simply examples to support what I was arguing. Just because someone was labelled a ballhawk in college doesn’t have anything to do with the extent to which that attribute will be successful in a much higher level of play.
Also, you are absolutely wrong about how he isn’t bound to be a great wrap up tackler, given his size. When you’re only 200 pounds, you cannot launch yourself against running backs and tight ends that weigh a good 20-30 punds more. In the scheme that Lovie runs, where all players on the field are expected to pursue the ball, wrapping up is of even greater emphasis. Even if you don’t bring the guy down, help will be there soon. It also gives others the opportunity to punch the ball out.
Your statement about the coaching staff overblowing injuries has no credibility to it either. From a logical standpoint, why would the coaching staff hold someone out for an overextended period of time? (given the injuries we’ve had in the defensive backfield all season)
Zack Bowman had 6 picks in 2009. Ha! And what happened to him in week 3 the following year? He got benched, because he couldn’t tackle in the open field and got beat in coverage.
Finally, the fact that Major Wright is ranked 6th on the team in tackles, does not correlate to how good of a tackler he is. Wright actually has the 3rd worst tackle – missed tackle ratio on the team. (credit to Timothy Hockemeyer) Although those stats can be subjective, and I do agree that tackling does improve among young players, it will not improve in Wright’s case unless he changes his style of play.

He's a bit like the opposite of Tillman, yet similar
The opposite in that he excels at the physical aspect of the game, seems to lag a bit in the mental aspect. Where Tillman is a genius at CB, but struggles with the physical at times.
Similar in that when they have a bad game, it’s a pretty damn bad game.
This
When Wright has a bad game, it’s usually really, really bad. Sometimes he takes bad angles, doesn’t wrap guys up, and fails in coverage. It’ll all add up to an awful game.
I think Wright still has a lot of promise, and in a defense where he’s not asked to do too much, he can be a major asset, and a very good player.
Most of the time he plays a pretty good game. I think he does much better with a guy like Conte beside him, and when the CBs cover well. Also, when he has some help over the middle from the LBs. When he’s relied upon for coverage repeatedly he gets burned.
Coming out of college he was touted as a ballhawk (like this year proves) and a hitter.
He fills that bill.
I think he and Conte make a nice safety tandem.
Again, I think drafting a young CB with high upside and a good track record is crucial and will take some of the pressure off the young safeties and the rest of the defense. And shore up one of the two big weaknesses on this team – the pass defense (pass blocking being the other).
Wright was pretty bad today, but he had a lot of added responsibility thanks to pretty bad pass coverage from the LBs and corners.
Yeah, see what Darelle Revis does for the Jets defense. They can roll coverage to one side or blitz extra guys.
Yep
It opens up the defensive playbook tremendously when you have an athletic corner. You can actually go from less of a “system/gameplan” defense to more of a playcalling defense, where you can shift gears from man to zone and back easily, do a lot more with blitzes, not to mention it shrinks the coverage area of zones. It can be the difference between having 2 safeties way over the top and only 1 just over the top. Maybe the Bears could cover the middle of the field for once.
Coverage
That’s his job! I’ve seen that play action play all year by the Pack. Probably watched it on film 100 times. He always bites on an underneath route, and gets burned by ten yards.

And although we lost, I’ll tip my helmet to Josh McCown and to Kahlil Bell. They both played well.
Josh McCown, in particular, looked much better than Caleb Hanie ever did in the 4 games prior. I’ve put him down many times, and overall he did all he could with a lousy secondary. His actions were heroic, and maybe we’ve found our back-up QB for next season. It was a definitely a fun ride this year, and we may see a better team next year who is healthy. I see no chance JA gets fired this offseason, ironically he had a good draft this past year with Conte, Paea, and Carmini. JA will coast on the 7-3 record previous to the rehab ward being setup at Halas hall. Heck those three should still be on the roster in a years time.
Lets see what he does in FA in the spring, he has alot of holes and alot of money he HAS to spend as that 98% rule kicks in March 15th when the 2012 league year starts. I expect lots of FA action, we have the cap room and need the personnel.

Or stick with the Allen kid as #3
I liked what I saw out of him. Kinda like a Wolfe type with more ideal size. I bet he could be good on special teams with that speed and quickness.
Too true
I’d have no problem with him, but he seems to be more of a practice squad guy cause of his size. He needs to be more elusive to be a 3rd RB in my opinion.

Oh and 1 more thing out of curiosity
With Bell’s performance, we now have had 3 different starters who each recorded at least a 100 yard game. Are the Bears the only team in the NFL to do so?

Actually I believe Tate and Foster were the only two backs with 100+. Foster only missed about 4 weeks or so and Tate was the man during that time.
The Texans actually had Tate and Foster both rush for 100 in one game
but they never had 3 different RB’s rush for 100 during the season
The Skins have three as well.
And surprisingly almost had four (Hightower had 96 yards in a game).
-Torrain, Helu, and Royster (last week vs the Vikes).
-Also, the Browns had two but could have had three if Hardesty got 4 more yards.
-Another random team is the Colts who have one 100 yard rushing games this year from Donald Brown. Addai and Carter both were a few yards from that mark.
Who is the replacement for Angelo that will set the league on fire with his aquisitions?
One other question, is JA’s replacement the “real talent” or are the players the real talent? Second we are cutting Hanie, Bowman, and Omiyale but we will be the same team for the next 2 years? With a few others set to be FAs and Forte getting the franchise tag I almost guarantee this team will look alot different next year. Chris Collinsworth just ended the broadcast saying how good he thinks the Bears will look next year but dont let that get in your way.

So will this game and MIN
hurt or help the re-sign Forte bid? I hope they do, but they have been running the ball…He’s just so much better
because TLR
one thing i noticed...
Nick Roach is pretty bad in coverage. It’s a liability, especially since his tackling isn’t good. I say we can him next year. he’s not worth to keep around in my opinion. He’s a lower-mediocre to mediocre player.
Add LB to the list of offseason needs. ugh. Jerry, you better not screw up this draft and free agent class.
I agree
He’s had a pretty bad year, and cannot defend anyone in the passing game.

i wonder why we didn't bring back
tinoisamoa at all this year, even after he healed up. He would have been a lot better than roach imo, even though he gets hurt a bit.
He is injury prone and he is older than Roach, plus he is a stop gap with no real future with this team beyond this year.
There are also style considerations. The Cover 2 doesn’t emphasis or place importance on the Sam. The Will and Mike backers are the important ones and where our two best play.
Roach did his job in being average and providing steady play.
Yes
Reece in week 11 and Finley tonight really exposed his poor coverage skills. As a strong side LB in this scheme, the one thing you have to do well is cover.

His original position is FB
While he doesn’t get major yards, he is one hell of a role player. The Raiders lined him up in the backfield and would shift him out, prompting Roach to cover him. It gave us problems on several occasions, and really kept the defense off balance.

Roach is better than you give credit for. His name is not meant to be known in this defense and I'd rather have an average guy
than a great guy we over pay that isn’t an important part of the defense.
his run defense is decent...
bordering on good. but his pass coverage skills are atrocious, so averaging out, it makes him less than mediocre.
i’d argue the SLB position has an important position in our scheme, what with run support, and usually covering a TE or RB in the flat when they go split out.
I think the pass coverage issues might be due to the system
Same goes for Briggs, who doesn’t look very good when he has to cover a TE or RB. And Urlacher doesn’t seem to be as good in coverage as he could be.
Much of it might be due to having to show blitz. It does’t affect the other team’s approach to the play. Definitely doesn’t rattle the QB, and is completely useless on all passing plays and most rushing plays. It puts them a few steps behind in coverage, and contributes to that extremely soft middle of the Bears defense. The middle that all the good, quick throwing QBs take advantage of repeatedly through 4 quarters.
Well, we did draft one last year...

Give McCown and Bell a split game-ball
Both came out of nowhere, and both did a gutsy performance. I understand this was their contract game, but they’ve performed admirably under the circumstances. I particularly liked how McCown has shown in his first game a composure in the pocket Cutty took a while to display. Even when the pocket was moving backwards and sideways, he kept himself out of trouble and found himself some space for a throw or a quick run for a first. As I’ve said, if he repeats this performance next week (a good challenge, against the Mullet), give him a shot for the #2 spot for 2012. Hopefully, we’ll never see him again in a situation that matters, but this time in a good way.
As for Bell, he complements Forte quite well, moving behind the o-line patiently to find holes, so next season I don’t see any reasons he shouldn’t be #2. And in fact, if we get another guy on the cheap capable of getting between 40 and 80 yards with a decent YPC, Forte will have to a lot to keep himself on the team come 2013.
Overall, while the offense is needing at least a decent wideout and maybe a couple more guys on the o-line, the D is showing huge signs of wear.
I liked what the rookie RB Allen showed in brief playing time as well
Looks like our RBs are good for the long term.

Makes any RB look good. This is exactly why teams try not to over pay for them. He didn’t really make anyone miss; not very elusive.

He wasn’t elusive like Bell was and like Forte is, but it was apparent he had a nice burst and pretty good quickness. I want this kid back as our #3, filling that lesser Adrian Peterson or GW role. Special teams star, capable runner (something Wolfe wasn’t).
True
But this game showed he also is decent in between the tackles. He broke quite a few Packers off tonight. I say leave the RB corps as is.

I agree. We should at least keep Barber if only for the short yardage and goalline and use Bell on 3rd down and/or as a breather for Forte.
Limit Barber to what he does best and keep them all fresh.
McCown showed he is comfortable at the position
Agreed that if he can pull of a similar performance to this game he can be the backup for Cutty next year. He played well enough to beat a team that doesnt have a scoring machine like Rodgers on it. I honestly think he would have gone 2-2 if not 3-1 had he played instead of Hanie and the defense might not have had their confidence shattered after 12 quarters of solid football and no win to show for it.

I don't know . . .
McCown was out of football since 2009 and he did not have a stellar record when he was active. I fully understand why Smith waited a month to start McCown. He needed to get his head back into the game. Even in brief action against the Seahawks McCown showed that he still wasn’t ready, he threw that blunder of a pass that got picked off.
Rushing McCown into the lineup could have been a disaster and we’d be in total despair right now instead of hopeful that McCown has what it takes to be Cutler’s backup. And I think McCown might be willing to get the pay raise for a year or 2 to be there if Cutler goes down. The Bears are the best team McCown’s ever been on and will be his last chance to get a ring. I think the temptation’s pretty strong to stick around.

However I knew Hanie was useless after that first Raiders game, I didn’t need 3 more to know it. I am certain they waited too long to pull Hanie, plain and simple but Hindsight is 20/20.

And now we know
That Mike Martz was right about Hanie as well. Hindsight does that. Ironically I have more faith in Martz now than I did while Cutler was leading us onto that five-game win streak. Martz had Hanie nailed.
Let’s see if McCown can replicate this performance against the Vikes before we think the backup QB position is solid for next year though. But I liked what I saw there. McCown could be the manager that we need, and if he does this again, at least that’s one thing to not worry about in the offseason. Pretty sure McCown would stay here for a year or two.
by themacattack on Dec 26, 2011 12:05 AM CST up reply actions
Martz should have been better with the receivers though. I mean he helped personally develop Bruce and than pretty much created Holt and Hakim later in St. Louis.
Maybe they can bring back Bruce to coach em up
I would not be surprised if that happens
I think Bruce could make a pretty good coach. Sanz could be great with some mentoring.
by themacattack on Dec 26, 2011 12:12 AM CST up reply actions
Sanz really kinda disappeared after the early part of the season
But the last couple of games he’s impressed me again, a bit.
He’s got nice size and decent speed, plays a little bit like a small TE. I like when he’s being targeted. Him and KM. It was nice to see some passes zipped into the middle of the field today. Haven’t seen that happen since the Chargers game.
Semi-hope?
Josh McCown just gave a pretty decent audition. Other than one or two stupid throws (especially the Clay Matthews INT) he played much better than I expected. He looked like he was having some fun and he gritted out a lot of plays. If I were Smith and Martz I’d start him against the Vikings and see if this was a anomaly or not. If McCown runs the Bears offense up and down the field against the Vikes like he did today, I say we found our guy to back Cutler up the next two years (which will basically be the final two years of opportunity the Bears have). McCown will be 31 next year so he won’t be Todd Collins-ancient.
Kahlil Bell played really well. He looked like Matt Forte Redux, though it helps that the Pack haven’t been able to stop the run all year long except Week 3 against the Bears. When a practice squad guy like Allen can make the Pack look stupid that says a lot. But I definitely think Bell and Allen deserve more looks against the Vikes and just sit Barber. We have riches at running back with Barber, Bell, Forte, and if Allen does good against the Vikings him too.
The defense really let us down. I agree with Collinsworth to a point about Bowman in which there wasn’t much else he could do on those pivotal throws. But the difference between a decent player and a good one is the ability to break up those pivotal throws on occasion and Bowman couldn’t do that. Bowman played decent but he was not good. And in general the Rodgers made the Bears look stupid in the 2nd half a lot. Granted Rodgers has done that to every non-Chiefs defense this season but still, we’re supposed to be the one defense that can give Rodgers headaches.
For receivers . . . Bennett made those beautiful cuts on that near-touchdown. Sanz did okay, I think he’s a keeper. Roy Williams finally showed up after being near-invisible all season but I think it’s too little too late. Kellen Davis did fine.
I think there’s some hope for 2012. But our window is closing pretty fast. Cutler’s going to be 29 next year, and Briggs, Tillman, Peppers, and Urlacher are over 30 already. We can make a run next year and maybe 2013 too but there’s pieces that need to be filled NOW. Looks like we need cornerbacks, another WR or two, and OL help, and the Bears will have the capability to run the table in 2012 and maybe 2013.
But let’s see what happens against the Vikings. If Jared Allen is kept out of the equation the Vikes should be beatable. McCown and Bell show up against the Vikes like they did today we win, and we will be able to look ahead to 2012 with optimism.
2012 is the first year were we have to spend 98% of the cap on players

But since the Broncos game it’s been really bad. That game in particular was outrageous. On each and every pass play, Peppers was being hooked under the shoulder. He was flat out tackled a few times. Worst case of uncalled holding for 4 quarters I’ve ever seen.
That actually may have very well been the difference in that game.

I did like what I saw out of McCown though. Most of his throws seemed to be on target, he was making good decisions (I don’t really blame the picks on him, Bell should have blocked Steroid boy better, and the second one was tipped), and he has some nice mobility which will help with this O-Line.
I was able to watch him for a few years when he played here in AZ and he was a decent QB. Good person too from everything I’ve heard about him. Get another good game out of him next week and he should be back next season to back up Cutler.
Loved what I saw from Bell too.

Bell was awesome
And I think it just goes to show that this team is fine without Forte (though I love Matt and wish he hadn’t gone down), and that this OL is great at opening up lanes. Bell brings us something that even Forte doesn’t bring… that almost Barry Sanders-like ability to bounce or spin off a tackler, find a hole, and pick up those couple of extra yards. Bell is a fun runner to watch.
I would have changed the channel halfway through the 3rd quarter, but I really enjoyed watching him run today, as well as that Allen kid. I’m glad I stayed tuned so I could see McCown’s sweet TD pass and awesome 2pt conversion and dunk.

It won't happen, but it wouldn't be a bad idea
RBs are expendable and have short lifespans. At least 2/3 of most RBs’ success comes from the OLs they run behind.
I don’t think it’s an undeniable fact that this team is fine without Forte. It started in the Oakland game with Barber splitting time with Forte. Then since the Forte injury, the Bears haven’t lost effectiveness at the position.
He likely isn’t the second coming of Barry, but Bell kept on making plays where you’re thinking the play is over, suddenly you see his feet moving, he’s skirting away from the defender and picking up 3, 4 more yards. Or popping up out of a tight bunch and breaking into the second level. I found myself saying “Wow! How did he do that?” over and over during last night’s game. Which is how it used to be watching Sanders.
Coachin' up the Pack
Rodgers a stat padder? Say you’re the coach of the Packers, ball on the two, second and goal. You’ve got a running game that is inconsistent at best, and generally lousy at short yardage anywhere on the field. You’ve got the best QB in the game, one of the best at reading defenses and avoiding turnovers. You’ve got a solid receiving corps. Your stud QB consistently sees his wide outs in single coverage at the goal line. Do you encourage your MVP QB to audible to a hand off and a two-yard loss, or do you let that MVP find the single coverage for an easy TD? Just asking.
Hard to do any stat padding when you don’t play a single down in the fourth quarter.

Brought to my attention but how is it that the LamboLeap isn't excessive celebration??
I mean I know its history but if refs are gunna throw the flag for some big celebrations, fine but the leap is taking the crowd into effect. Doesn’t that warrant some sort of penalty?
It is tradition so they allow it. If it wasn't, than it probably wouldn't be allowed. Also, the player doesn't use the ball as a prop, go to the ground or congregate with other players.
This is silly:
It is tradition so they allow it. If it wasn’t, than it probably wouldn’t be allowed.
I’m fairly certain that rules are neither written nor interpreted based on each team’s local traditions.
I'm a ninja.
Apparently
It’s a tradition to blatantly hold Peppers for 4 quarters, and it’s interpreted and accepted as tradition and allowed to happen.
I was thinking that last night
On a TD where there was your typical, light 3 man celebration, a bit of leaping and ass or chest bumping, followed by a leap. I was waiting for a flag to be thrown.
Do the leap, fine, but don’t piddle around in the end zone for 15 seconds before doing it, and don’t run across the end zone making gestures afterward.
I’m fine with the leap, but teams around the league are getting penalized for being even less showy and taking up even less time on TD celebrations. If you’re gonna do the leap, do it right away, go back to the sidelines afterwards.
McCown
McCown Looked liked he could have at least split those four Hanie losses. I know he would not have started game one or two but after watching Hanie stinking it up what did they have to lose. While not perfect last night, McCown showed he has throws that Hanie simply does not. Also better pocket awareness and escapability which was supposed to be one of Hanie’s strong points. It is too bad to see a deep into the playoffs/super bowl possibilty season just tossed in the trash. I hope Smith And Martz Are both gone. I know it will not happen but a man can dream can,t he?
I just hope our management doesn't screw up and loose Forte in the off-season
Although Kahlil Bell was very solid last night, and even Armando Allen was good. NBC commentators were saying something about how Forte thinks he will be picked up if he don’t get a contract w/ Bears.
McCown played surprisingly good last night. Lets hope its not a fluke. Too bad hindsight is always 20/20 regarding backup QB this yr.
BEAR DOWN
Bowman played maybe the worst game I have ever seen a corner play in my life
Please find Jay Cutler some help...
Weak link again.
Bowman was a big part of the Bronco game collapse. Not sure why he was in at the end of that game. Rodgers exploited him at every opportunity. Anyone know what was going on with Jennings?
To quote Hawk
He gone!
