The Best, Most Accurate Mock Draft, with trades
Below you will find my 2011 NFL mock draft. In a little over a week you will find out it was the best, most amazing accurate mock draft published. Rick Gosselin will start calling me for advice.
1. Carolina: Cam Newton. In all likelihood, this is the pick. Any mock that starts with Blaine Gabbert already failed, because there is no chance of him going number 1. It's possible the Panthers could go Peterson, AJ Green or Dareus, but I think they go with a potential superstar (albeit with considerable risk) QB in Newton.
2. Denver: Marcel Dareus. This is the biggest no-brainer in the draft. Wait, no, it's the second biggest no-brainer.
3. Buffalo: Von Miller. THIS is the biggest no-brainer in the draft. Miller is the best pass-rusher in the draft, and he goes to a team in need of one. Buffalo could use a long-term qb answer, but I don't think they like Gabbert THAT much more than the second-round QBs like Ponder and Mallet, and Miller is a blue-chip prospect.
4. Cincinatti: AJ Green. Cincinatti has had a mass exodus of receivers leaving via craziness (T.O.), decline and Bellichek-love (Ochocinco) or death (Chris Henry).
5. Arizona: Robert Quinn. Arizona has a giant hole at QB, but they'll sign Bulger to appease Fitzgerald and draft a qb to groom later.
6. Washington (via trade, Washington sends their first round pick (number 10), their 2011 5th round pick, and their 2012 second round pick for Cleveland's first round pick (number 6): Blaine Gabbert. Shannahan is known to like Gabbert, who is mobile enough to throw outside the pocket. Though he doesn't have nearly the arm strength Shannahan had in Cutler, he makes better decisions with the ball.
7. San Francisco: Patrick Peterson. San Francisco gets arguably the best player in the draft at a position of need, which is lucky. That never happens for the Bears. When we have a high pick, Benson is the best player available. When we don't have a high pick, there's all kinds of talent just beyond our reach. Sigh.
8. Tennessee: Nick Fairley. This is a great fit, in that Tennessee really needs help on the line and they just hired Fairley's college position coach. A nice upgrade for them.
9. St Louis (via trade. St Louis sends their first round (#14) and 3rd round pick to Dallas for their first round pick (#9). Julio Jones. Dallas is known to like Tyron Smith, but rightly decide he's not a top 10 pick. St Louis desperately needs some weapons for Bradford, and Jones is a perfect fit for their offense.
10. Cleveland: (via Wash) DeQuan Bowers. Cleveland says "Aww snap, we thought we could trade down and still get Julio Jones". No dice, but they do get the second-best pass-rusher in the draft, who only fell because of medical concerns.
11. Houston: Aldon Smith. If it were me, I'd take Amakamura, because Houston's secondary was brutal last year. But they spent a first rounder back there last year, and they seem to think upgrading their front 7 for Wade Phillips new D is a bigger priority. Wade Phillips was a dumb hire, by the way. You have a young superstar on defense, and you switch to a defense that takes him out of the game?
12. Minnesota: Jake Locker. His star has sure fallen (he was thought to be a future number 1 overall pick), and I hope for good reason, but Minny seems to like the kid.
13. Detroit. Prince Amakamura. Most mocks have Detroit taking a offensive lineman, but I think they go for a future defensive star. They are really amassing a scary amount of talent in Detroit. Good thing it's Detroit.
14. Dallas. Tyron Smith. Usually Jerry Jones screws everything up, but he manages to trade back and still get the guy he wanted.
15. Miami. Mark Ingram. I'm not 100% they take him, but every mock out there seems to think so, and I couldn't think of anyone else they'd take. They have a boring offense and all their RBs are leaving, so this makes sense.
16. Jacksonville. Ryan Kerrigan. Ryan becomes one of the cornerstones of the future Los Angeles Jaguars.
17. New England. Cameron Jordan. Bellicheck could conceiveably trade this pick and somehow end up with 3 more first rounders, but I think they are starting to get thin on high-end talent after trading back so many years, so they go for a guy who can increase their pass rush.
18. San Diego: JJ Watt. AJ Smith used to have the Midas touch in the draft, but recently he has drafted about as well as Angelo, which is not a complement. San Diego would probably be smart to move up a few picks and get a better edge rusher, but they won't do that.
19. NY Giants: Anthony Castanzo. The Giants need some serious help on the line, or the pouty scowl on Eli's face could turn permanent. They get the O-lineman with the highest floor in the draft.
20. TB: Adrian Clayborn. The Pewter Report thinks this is the guy, and they are the best team site in football, so I'll go with them.
21. KC: Nate Solder. A team with a lot of young talent got a little more. He's a project but he's as good a prospect as Tyron Smith imo.
22. Indy: Derrick Sherrod. He and Peyton Manning can have arguments on who has weaker pecs. This guy is a finesse blocker in every sense. He wouldn't work in any system that wants to run with regularity, but would work in a pass-heavy system like Indy's.
23. Philadelphia: Gabe Carimi. He would be my favorite Bears pick, and he would perfectly fit the system and would be an instant upgrade at RT. He'll go to Philly instead where he can protect Vick's blind side.
24. New Orleans: Cam Heyward. Ironhead's son goes to the Saints in his dad's footsteps.
25. Seattle: Mike Pouncey: There goes the last of the Bear's offensive line hopes. Seattle takes big-time o-linemen in back to back drafts, and if they had someone to protect, Pete Carroll would be in business. With St Louis getting better quickly, 7-9 isn't going to cut it in the emerald city any longer.
26. Baltimore: Jimmy Smith. Baltimore gets another bad-ass to upgrade their D, which seems to be great every year, regardless of who is coaching.
27. Atlanta: Titus Young: Roddy White gets a much-needed deep threat. That offense could get scary.
28. New England: Danny Watkins. Bellicheck gets a successor for Logan Mankins.
29. Colin Kapernick. But this isn't a Jay Cutler-hate pick. He goes to the Raiders, who trade their 2nd, 3rd and a 2012 4th round pick to the Bears for their first round pick (number 29). I realize popular pick Liuget is on the board, but I think he's over-rated, and I think Angelo won't be able to resist accumulating more picks. The Bears are in prime trade-down territory, with a bunch of teams wanting to sneak into the end of the first to pick up a QB.
30. NY Jets: Phil Taylor. Kris Jenkin's successor and the best 3-4 NT in the draft.
31. Pittsburgh: Ben Iljana. A lot of people have Aaron Williams here, but I think the Steelers really need some line help.
32. Green Bay: Akeem Ayers. If this pick pans out and the Packers get pressure from both sides, Cutler better get some serious help on the line. Chris Williams and Webb could get him killed.

I like it. Ive heard this possibility suggested before and it seems to be very realistic
With two 2nds and 2 3rds we could do something like this:
2nd: Ben Ijalana, and Davon House
3rd: Terrell McClain, and John Moffit (this could also be a solid WR pick like Tandon Doss or Austin Pettis)
Lol, didnt see Ijalana there at 31 (shoulda read all the picks before commenting)
Just substitute Ijalana for Marcus Cannon, or Stephen Wisniewski, either way there wiould still be a solid O-Lineman available who could step in and contribute

could anyone else see this happening?
with the trade down Marvin Austin (I’m not sold on him in the first) and Marcus Cannon with the two second round picks and Wisneski and Moffitt in the third and Austin Pettis in the 4th?
This seems like a best case scenario to me, with Austin becoming a starter, probably moving Webb over to LT and having Cannon as your RT, and Wisneski and Moffitt are contributors in there as well
I say keep Marcus Cannon as a RG
And sign a vet to play RT

+1
Also, I dont think Wisniewski makes it to the third, or Pettis to our 4th round pick. However, a late round reciever that Im really starting to like is Jeff Maehl. He’s a decent size at 6’0", is a great good route runner and good run blocker. He is a guy that we will have a chance at in the 5th, and has alot of the atributes Martz looks for in a WR

Wis won't be there in the 3rd...
If he is, then I would get him.. then draft someone else instead of Moffitt… There’s no need to get 3 OLs in those 4 picks.
If you can go like Cannon/Austin/Wis… then I would go for like maybe Greg Little (some ppl don’t like him, but it’s hard to ignore that upside and I think the Bears can keep him in line) or a CB in the late 3rd rounder
for example… Cannon/Austin/Wis/Little or CB
or…
Cannon then the next 2 picks are best available CB or DT at those picks then Moffitt or the moffitt pick could be someone else and draft a “project” C later in the draft
for example… Cannon/House/McClain/Moffitt or whoever
I like this one cuz you got your starter at RG or RT in Cannon/CB in House/3 tech DT in McClain while Moffitt can play G and eventually move to C or possibly start at C from day one… If you decided to take a C like Barnes/Linnenkohl/Kirkpatrick/O’Dowd instead, then that late 3rd rounder should be picked on the guy with the biggest upside regardless of position as I think those 3 are legit starters from day one that you can afford to go with an big upside pick in the 3rd round that Angelo always like to do every year…
then in the FA, you go hard at Carl Nicks and I would be happy with that offseason…
my 2nd example is ideal, but probably not realistic...
Cuz I doubt House will be there for the Bears late 2nd round pick and McClain could be gone by the early 3rd round pick, but Nevis could be there though…
But the main point is… those 4 picks can get creative on who the Bears pick and it could be based on how the draft unfolds as someone could just fall down to the Bears that they HAD to pick the guy (like Jon Baldwin at the 48th pick for example) or the draft could dictate who the Bears pick (like there’s a run on OLs and Bears can get the last option of the 2nd tier OLs and the next of OLs are a big reach at that pick even though there are better players at other positions available) or it could be everything fell in place for the Bears and they got the guy they wanted with each pick…
^ This
Add in a differance maker/complimentary WR to our corps as well as a vet DT such as Cullen Jenkins and that would be an offseason of champions.

Thought about that...
But… that’s just wishful thinking to me. I figured if the Bears somehow had a great draft (something that’s graded B+ or better) then most likely would make one big signing in FA with Nicks and then sign/resign a couple serviceable players to top it off… Not sure how much Jenkins will cost and which WR you’re thinking about, but adding those 2 on top of what I said above would be icing on the cake IMO.
Now if Bears is serious about getting Jenkins (I believe he’s “only” 30 if I’m not mistaken), then Bears “could” realistically not look at DT (unless someone just drops down to them) in the draft this year as Jenkins has a couple good years left in him. Even with Jenkins, the Bears should still get a DT if it that’s the “value” pick. That would just take one position off the list to focus on for the Bears in the draft.
Well not only are we serious about Cullen Jenkins
But most likely we will see a DT selected by the Bears within the first 3 rounds, as DT especially 3 tech needs to be shored up if we want to make a run at the Super Bowl.
Lets not forget about the Nose either, as Anthony Adams is not only uncertain to return but he also is our only true Nose, we need to add a lot more depth and talent at NT.

Now see...
I’m just wondering cuz if Bears do get Jenkins and they have Melton bulking up to play 3 tech. Do they really need to draft a 3 tech then? I know FA might not happen until after the draft so you should draft a 3 tech anyway.
I agree with you that the NT is sorely lacking that they should look at NTs in the draft, but I wouldn’t mind in the 6th round to draft a high potential NT that Rod can coach. I’m not sure which NT prospects would fit with the Bears. Do you know? NT wasn’t something I was looking at this year.
Muhammed Wilkerson would be a great fit as a NT
In saying that he is likely gone before we would draft especially if we trade down. We may have a shot at him with our first rounder, but even so Im not so sure if he will be there.
Phil Taylor is another possibility; however, he not only may be a first rounder but to me he is a better fit as a space eating NT in a 3-4 scheme. Not out of the question though as most mocks have him in the 2nd round, and he seems to be someone that Hot Rod would like to coach up.
Kendrick Ellis from Houston is a new name possibility, as he is the largest DT in the draft ( 6-4 346 pounds!) yet his 40 time is comparable to Paea’s ( a 5.19 to a 5.15) and just a hair faster than Terrell McClain ( 5.19 to a 5.20) according to this. He does have some penetrating skills to go with his size, he reminds me of Pat Williams in a sense. Im not sure if we will be taking an extra large player such as him, but I would like to see more of him after a little homework on him, and I do seem to notice that as a team an unofficial goal is to get larger players added on.

I love this mock for us.
I love that we could get 4 good players who could set in as rookies and contribute. Jerry really seems like he doesn’t know what he’s doing with first round picks.

I looked at this draft and started to ponder why we would trade down as who would we hope is there at our first second rounder?
Then it hit me, as I have thought of an almost perfect (realistic draft) seeing one particular player slip into the second round.
And that player ( along with my mock draft ) is:
2nd round (1st selection)- Aaron Williams, CB Texas
2nd round (2nd selection)- Marcus Cannon, O-Lineman TCU
3rd round (earlier pick)- Terell McClain, DT USF
3rd round (later pick)- Austin Pettis, WR Boise State
4th round- Justin Moffit, O-Lineman Winsconsin
5th round- Taiwan Jones, RB Eastern Washington ( value pick/ super sleeper)
6th round- Mark Heizlich, LB Boston College
Why Taiwan Jones you may ask? First he probably will slip for the sole fact he did not play in a well known division 1 college, and secondly he would be a perfect compliment to Forte as well as a great fit. Yes I know a good number of us are looking for a bruiser, but I feel we should add a burner to our RB corps as Matt Forte is a tough RB himself as well as the potential of Harvey Unga, provided we restore order to the O-Line. Plus when a player of his talent falls down to the mid rounds with a scheme like ours, I cant see Martz wanting to pass on the opportunity in looking at a potential replacement for Chester Taylor.
Mark Herzlich may slip because he did miss a good portion of his football career at Boston College due to his fight against cancer ( which thankfully appears to be gone) and although he fits the mold of a young Brian Urlacher even a player of his talents may fall because of this.

I doubt
anyone would have a problem with that draft. I’d be happy.
DEJESUS!!!
Our most pressing needs would be taken care of
As I feel with this draft after the “Big 5” of tackles are gone, not one Tackle left in this draft would make an immediate impact or even surplant J’Marcus Webb or Chris Williams as a sure starter. With Cannon; however, he would perhaps fill our strongest need, Guard either as a RG or as a LG if no suitable veterans are signed. And as a bonus he has some capability to play as a Tackle ( most likely a RT) at the NFL level.
I was both surprized and delighted to see Aaron Williams passed on in the first round, he is the best fit as far as CBs are concerned in this year’s draft. He is a faster slightly larger version of Tillman who also possesses great coverage skills.
Perhaps what stands out in this mock is every player that was listed the Bears have at least some interest in their services, notably the first 4 hypothetical picks ( Williams, Cannon, McClain, and Pettis) as each can be a starter from day 1, especially Aaron Williams and Marcus Cannon.

Thank you for that
John* Moffitt is a good prospect, and if needed he can start from day 1, or better yet if we retain Kreuts he could either start as a Guard opposite of Cannon ( only if a suitable veteran is not obtained) or he could ride the bench for a year and learn from Kreutz.

That would be an epic draft, and pretty realistic too
The only thing is that Im not sure if Taiwan Jones would be there for us in the 5th. But if he isnt there I would jump on Noel Devine. I think he’s undervalued and has got a chance to be a really good value pick in the 5th or 6th. I know he’s small but he’s got quick feet and ran “between a 4.26 and 4.38” at WVU’s pro day.

I like it...
Only thing though… I don’t see Cannon there late 2nd round. I think you would have to either get Cannon with the 1st 2nd round pick and then a CB like Davon House later in the 2nd or you can get Williams, but then a different guard later (or hopefully Wis would fall) in the 2nd round IMO.
Don’t get me wrong.. That’s pretty darn close to a perfect draft and I hope Cannon would fall that far. Then get Nicks and Jenkins in the FA and Bears can decide if Moffitt can start at C right away or resign Olin and let Moffitt learn the position.
The OL would look like Williams/Nicks/Olin or Moffitt/Cannon/Webb. Tackles would be better since the inside is improved by about 50 times.
Davon House is a beast
I actually thought about your idea with placing Cannon as our first pick then stealing House away from the Packers with our second pick, but I doubt we would pass up on Aaron Williams if he were there with our first pick, and Cannon is just that one player where you don’t know where he is going to go. He could be a 1st rounder, or he could be as late as a 4th rounder as Guards tend to go unnoticed in recent drafts. I decided to go safe and select him with our seond pick.
I agree 100% that we should sign both Carl Nicks and Cullen Jenkins, while throwing in perhaps Santonio Holmes to add a #1 WR for Jay Cutler. In saying that I also understand adding a top tier WR is more of a want than a need, we have good enough talent to win games with ( doesn’t hurt to have the fastest WR corps in the NFL) as well as continued maturity with Cutler.

Would love to get a WR like Holmes thru FA...
But would the Bears have enough money after Nicks/Jenkins though? Don’t forget Bears will have to sign a few guys elsewhere to start (NT/C/3rd LB) then get depth as well on top of that…
True
I wonder if those players were in mind when we were front-loading money?

#1
It was just released Gabbert has a pretty much photographic memory that is shocking all teams that interview him. So I don’t know about that Newton pick.
Let’s remember Clausen was a 2nd rounder just last year, watch the D focused head coach shock the world and go D with the pick. I could see an Arizona trade too if they are set on one of the 2 QB’s.
