Best Bears Draft Picks Of All Time: Stan Jones Guard

When you're drafted in the 5th round and you go on to be one of the best ever at your position and you end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I'd say that would qualify you for being one of the best draft picks in team history.  Stan Jones was drafted in the 5th round in 1953 while a Junior.  Back then you could draft guys early, but they had to stay in school.  The Bears took a calculated risk with their selection.

Star-divide

His Senior year at Maryland saw him named an All American and named the best lineman in college.  And his team was voted #1 atop both polls.  I'd say the calculated risk paid off.

On the Chicago Bears he was the most feared pulling guard of his era, and he was named to seven straight Pro Bowls.  The Hall came calling in 1991.

I can’t be the only person who saw “Best Bears Draft Picks” and the name “Stan” and wondered for a second how Stan Thomas got on the list…

Acreman20: 127 hours is pretty decent.
awfullyquiet: How long is that movie?
Acreman20: 93 minutes.

Good story

Thank you I enjoyed getting this information. We’ve had a few late rounders do well, albeit not as well as Stan. But this gives us hope for this years late rounders and some of those undrafted FAs that will be picked up.
