Memorial Day Sports Memories

Photo

Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer.  Memorial Day weekend is also, often times, the first time friends and families get out and party in cookout fashion.  Does anyone have any interesting sports related stories from past Memorial Day weekends?  A pickup basketball game gone awry?  A family softball game that got a little too competitive?  A lawn jart accident?  Some horseshoe drama out there?

Sports Illustrated has a picture gallery devoted to Memorial Day sports moments.  You can check it out right here

On Memorial Day 2010 I took a closer look at Soldier Field.  You can check that link out by clicking here.  I'll end this brief post with the same ending I used last year.

Take a moment to think about those we've lost in service to our country, and if you have the chance to do so thank a soldier for all they do.  And be sure to have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend.

I'd rather think of far greater heros today

Today is a day to remember those who gave us the freedom to make people rich playing a child’s game. They are the real heros, not the play on the gridiron, or the diamond or the square circle and any other sport venue. Look back at of the former Bears and other NLFers who took time out of their careers to fight for our constitutional rights in WWII, Korean, Viet Nam, Iraq, Kosavo, Afghanistan or other battle fields. For some, their careers ended on those battle fields, the Cards Tillman being the latest. Remember only Jesus Christ and and American G.I. ever died for your freedom.

I’m not convinced about the former.

Acreman20: 127 hours is pretty decent.
awfullyquiet: How long is that movie?
Acreman20: 93 minutes.
