Bears Bites

* With the lockout in full force, players are either just having fun (like Hines Ward being arrested at gunpoint) or actually organizing workouts since they cannot get into practice facilities.

* With Drew Brees paying for his entire team's workouts to even Eli Manning doing it for the Giants, what the hell are the Bears players up to? Is our Pouty QB Jay Cutler too busy making his wedding arrangements to participate or lead a workout for the offense? This is making me very, very worried.

* Meanwhile, Yahoo! NFL sportswriter Jason Cole piles on his Bears hate with the continuing saga (in his mind, anyways) of Jerry Angelo's draft snafu with the Ravens and demands that the NFL make rule changes for the next draft. Water under the bridge, Jason- so please, give it up.

* Mad Mike Martz on drafting Idaho's Nathan Enderle: "We didn't draft [Enderle] to be the third quarterback," Martz said. "If that was the case, then there was no reason to draft a quarterback. You have to be good at that position to win, and one just isn't enough. We feel really good about Caleb, but what if Nate is better? Who knows? I don't know that he is or isn't." Jeez. I'm wondering why Martz seems to hate Caleb Hanie so much that he was willing to put in a guy who had a 6.5 QB rating in the NFC Championship Game (Todd -cough- Collins) or a guy who's never thrown a single NFL pass before and that every other draft expert thinks is a project. Did Hanie inadvertently see something he wasn't supposed to see behind closed doors in the Bears washroom or something?

Cole and everyone else seems to forget that the Ravens did the same thing before. And btw who the hell cares ?

Hines Ward wasn't arrested.

He was detained on a Felony vehichle stop, which is standard protocol for a suspected stolen vehicle.

Hmmm
This is making me very, very worried.

Oh, you mean because they don’t mention to reporters where and what they’re doing all the time?

If I did what I love for a living, what would I do in my free time?

Yes

we are hearing about everyone else doing workouts.

You're hearing about orchestrated workouts

which are likely more for the cameras than anything else.

Maybe JC can get some pointers from the Hitman on how to plan a wedding without letting it ruin your football career.

Mad Mike Martz – the guy that turned Kurt Warner into a star? that Mike Martz? Evidently coaches lose their ability to evaluate talent when they take a job in Chicago and just go Mad.

why would anyone want a 3rd string QB that can’t challenge the 2nd stringer for his spot? Does it make more sense to just sign any old scrub off the UDFA and let him carry a clip board?

How does making vague unsettling comments about the Bears washroom support your argument?

Honestly

I think Hanie may have had enough of the Bears OC and might want to get out of town. He is supposed to be a FA this year. He can probably start up in Minnesota, Carolina, Buffalo, Seattle if they dont keep Hasseback, Be a sure second in Detroit, Dallas, Indy. The kid can play and Martz doesnt like him. That is all there is to it. I think Hanie said something to Martz that he didnt like when he came to town. I’m for ya Caleb. Do what you have to.

hanie and martz

maybe hanie p**ssed on his chips or said or done something to upset our oc. what i think is they are bringing in competition for qb position. without this competition you do not progress. hanie has proven qualities, but just maybe needs a push. who knows with hanie,s abilities he could very well be traded for an upgrade in wr and extra draft picks.lets say to arizona for fitzgerald and a third or fourth pick. (just an example btw)

But, he played good for like, 15 whole minutes!

I mean, the Packers had no tape on him and almost immediately went to run-stuff mode, but still. 15 minutes, man!

No Further News About It

but with Jay Cutler youd think that if he joined in a workout it would make the news- he’s the one who needs these workouts the most.

by Gaak on May 7, 2011 12:00 PM CDT up reply actions

That is, according to Trent Dilfer

The offense as a whole needs to be working out, and Im certain even with wedding arrangements on mind Jay Cutler is doing some sort of work out with his teamates. It also ain’t his fault that the NFL lockout is still in effect.

Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

Jay is the groom, he most likely won’t be doing too much of the wedding planning.

And on the count of three lets all call Dilfer a douchebag, ready 1, 2, 3 Dilfer is a douchebag

I can't say I've noticed Cole to be particularly anti-Bear.

Here ya go.
Chicago Bears
Picks: OT Gabe Carimi(notes), DT Stephen Paea(notes), S Chris Conte(notes), QB Nathan Enderle(notes), LB J.T. Thomas(notes).
Grade: F
Analysis: This is a grade on principle. If you agree to a trade, you should follow through on it. GM Jerry Angelo’s wimpy way of backing out of his deal with Baltimore is just unmanly. This is the same guy who once complained about San Francisco tampering with Lance Briggs(notes). No GM in the league should ever trust Angelo again and to do that to a person as classy as Ozzie Newsome is just ridiculous. The Bears should have sent the pick to the Ravens simply as an apology. Beyond that, Angelo guessed wrong about who Kansas City was going to take and ended up getting Carimi anyway. Here’s even more bad news: Carimi isn’t that good and doesn’t fit what the Bears want to do. Paea in the second round was a solid pick, even if he cost a lot to get, but Conte was a stretch in the third round.

Link to above.

What really annoys me is that he’s not doing his job there, which is to offer a grade on the Bears’ draft based on how well he thought they fit needs and got value (and even what he does offer sounds like he’s bearing a grudge… undoubtedly the man knows more about evaluating offensive line play than I ever will, but didn’t Carimi win an award for the best offensive lineman in one of the toughest college conferences?). Throwing toys out of his pram is, apparently, in his job description.

Acreman20: 127 hours is pretty decent.
awfullyquiet: How long is that movie?
Acreman20: 93 minutes.

To add...

Does Cole really think that he knows more about what the Chicago Bears want out of their lineman than, i dunno, the Bears do?

Absolutely.

Just like Jason Whitlock knows more about Cutler’s injury than the Bears do! Playing at Ball State told him so

I knew he had ripped them over the draft

but I hadn’t realized he makes a habit of it. I read him fairly often, but not often enough apparently.

Check Out The Article He Made On Cutler After the NFCCG

Cutler’s leadership will be further questioned

and quite a lot of interviews he’s made on Yahoo video he always picks against the Bears and he admits to not liking them.

I hadn't seen that one.

I don’t really watch much of the video content. Did he claim to not like them as an organization, or just didn’t think they were good?
