Why was this photo taken on an angle like the old Batman TV series from the 60's? Tell us what you think Chicago Bears o-line coach MIke Tice is saying to his newest pupil and #1 draft pick Gabe Carimi, but do it in the style of some old school Batman dialogue. Whoops.
“Great Caesar’s Ghost” was a Perry White phrase. Wrong super hero. My bad.

I could give you a photogs prospective of why the photo was taken on an angle
But I’ll spare you the technical photo geek jargon and try to give you a silly caption instead.
Tice: Golly jee willikers Gabe, it’s a pleasure to have you on board.
Carim: Thanks a bunch Tice, never fear, your offensive line is solidifying and you’ll never have to worry about Chris Williams being along against a DE again! POW!
Jay Cutler is still my quarterback.
please tell me why it was taken on an angle!

My two cents:
It’s just a guess but I think the photog tilted the camera because if he had kept it level he probably would have clipped the top of Carimi’s head. He might have been shooting at a fixed focal length, I’ll guess 50mm, and could not go wider. The camera could have been on a tripod (or monopod) with a ball head that would allow him to tilt the camera. Tilting the camera up might have skewed the perspective a bit.
When viewing the images later, the editor may have liked two other things (in addition to sharp focus and correct selection of shutter speed): One, being the suggested action courtesy of the tilt and two, the resulting design elements. Notice the water bottle “supporting” the right side of the frame and a complimentary action created by the sign at the left side of the frame. Additionally, there is a line that flows from the top left (corner of the wall) that leads downward to the showcase that frames Tice and follows downward through his body.
Both of Tice’s arms lead that visual flow to Carimi. Notice how Tice’s left arm seems to flow through to the case behind Gabe. The edge of the table behind him is on a similar diagonal as Tice’s right arm.
So you see how all the visual elements in the image connect and take the eye across the entire image, suggesting strength and structure.
Or maybe not.

You nailed it Pete!!
That’s pretty much it. All I can add is that photogs sometimes tilt their cameras on purpose to change up a photo from the standard straight up and down. If he had taken it from the usual straight angles it might just look like any other handshake picture; unexciting, boring, very ho-hum. By tiliting it it gives motion, as Pete noted, it brings the eye into the picture and another element it adds is it shows how big Carimi really is. You can really tell, wow Tice’s arm is going UP to Carimi’s shoulder and he is looking UP into Carimi’s eyes. It plays up the size difference a bit more than it otherwise would have,
Jay Cutler is still my quarterback.

And also
even by tiliting, Carimi and Tice aren’t really too crooked int he frame. At least not so much that it’s disorienting. The background is quite crooked though, so maybe you’d think Halas Hall isn’t level or has a sinking foundation. Hahaha :D
Jay Cutler is still my quarterback.

All this time I just thought he was drunk or dropped the camera and it took the photo while falling.

Tice: Thank God you’re here, we almost had to go to plan Z
Carimi: What’s plan Z
Tice: It consisted of Garett Wolfe with a few canisters of mace in the backfield
Carimi: Why Wolfe?
Tice: We had to use him eventually
