Driving into work this morning I was listening to Mike and Mike on ESPN radio; they were having a conversation about Superbowl winning QB's. They talked about an interesting stat of the number of winning QB's currently in the league, they then had a discussion on who they believed would join them. Come follow me after the jump to see what all the hub bub is about.
Currently there are 6 starting QB's in the league who have won a superbowl, they are, Tom Brady, Ben Rothlisberger, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers. So the discussion went to which QB in the league barring any of the six getting another championship to join that list. They came up with four names of who they think are candidates.
1. Matt Ryan
2. Michael Vick
3. Joe Flacco
4. Mark Sanchez
I'll give you a second to digest the list above. Did you notice anyone missing? Yep Jay Cutler... Not even a mention of possibly going to the superbowl let alone winning it. From what I heard Matt Ryan is the leading candidate to win the superbowl as the Falcons are in win now mode. The question I pose to you is this, of the above four only Mark Sanchez has been in the AFC championship game two years in a row. The Falcons got destroyed last year by the Packers at home, the answer to the Falcons giving up 40+ points is to add a reciever??? Yup that's what Golic said would fix all Atlanta's problems, they need to be able to beat Green Bay in a shoot out not have a defense that can actually stop them.
I understand the Jay Cutler hate, some people just don't like him. But to not even mention him on this list or even Phillip Rivers for that matter concerns me. Michael Vick has been figured out, teams know what they need to do to stop him, he also has duribility issues given his style of play. Onto Joe Flacco, what exactly has he done with the defense, running game and brand new shinny reciever he was given? Nothing that is the answer. Mark Sanchez and the Jets have been very successful the past few years, I think Sanchez will only improve over time and I think he is a great fit for the Jets. However the Jets have a lot of FA answers they need to take care of before we will know if they will be as much of a threat as in the past. They still have a good defense and defense still wins championships.
Now onto Jay Cutler, if the Bears are able to protect him and add a few more FA pieces to the puzzle there is no reason in my mind that he and the Bears could be contenders again this year. They said we wouldn't win the division and we did, they said we wouldn't go the NFCCG but we did. The haters will always be there but now is the time that Jay and our beloved Bears show that we are no one hit wonder, that we will be a consistent contender for years to come. With our Denfense and our Offense on the verge of a breakout season very soon the league better not sleep on this team. Maybe I wear my Navy and Orange glasses to much, but I believe in Jay and I believe in our team.
