Dahni Jones (yeah, I didn't know he was still alive either) told NFL Network his list of the top 10 linebackers in the league. Needless to say, he ranked himself at seven, and left number 54 off the list entirely. Here's the link to the story (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/21/dhani-jones-disses-brian-urlacher/) but I'll provide some highlights:
During a recent visit to NFL Network, Jones was asked to list the top 10 linebackers in the league. Per the Chicago Tribune, Jones put himself at No. 7 — and left Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher off the list.
Asked about the omission of Urlacher, Jones said, “When’s the last time Brian Urlacher got off a block?“
So, what do you think? Aside from the absurdity of Dhani Jones, who is the epitome of mediocre, even sniffing the top 10, this discussion pretty much ended for me last year. Urlacher is a seven time pro bowler, and four time all pro. He has two sub-par seasons in his career, both because of injuries. He makes plays all over the field, in every facet of the defense, and has quaterbacked some great defenses over the course of his career. He has absolutely been the premier linebacker in the NFC for the better part of a decade, and has been second only to Ray Lewis during that time period. But most of all, we've all seen the difference his inclusion makes in this team. The defense is an entirely different animal with him on the field, and I don't see how anybody who has watched him play for the last ten years could undersell his impact in the fashion that so many "experts" do on a yearly basis.
