Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

Obama I like you as a fellow Chicagoan

But Dude. NEVER kiss ass to green bay. PERIOD…Just say they suck, even if you lose 50 votes. It’s your duty as a Bears fan to at least crack a bad joke on them.

Likely just a silly mistake !

Let it go. When Bears visit White House next year, the team ought to give him a Cutler Jersey ?

He would be on his knees and beg for Cutty's forgiveness

well, it would be awesome!

the sad reality is that Rodgers is an elite QB. With our D, and Special Teams we could win multiple SBs with Rodgers at the helm.

you can’t fault a Bears fan from wanting a top tier QB for his team

by MakeHalasProud on Aug 13, 2011 3:46 PM CDT reply actions

Does this include Rodgers getting sacked 52 times with the Bears last year?

Because, if so, I don’t think it would have made a difference.

Jay Cutler on the Packers last year, with the same team and coaching staff for six years and starting for the last three, getting sacked ‘only’ 31 times, throwing to Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, et al?

Aaron Rodgers on the Bears last year, with his 3rd offensive coordinator and 2nd team in 3 years, getting sacked 52 times, throwing to Knox and Hester?

When Rodgers was sacked four or more times last season, the Pack were 1-2 (3 out of 20 games). When Cutler was sacked four or more times, the Bears were 3-4 (7 out of 17 games). The fact that they were facing each other in the NFCC is a tribute to both QBs being not only good, but tough as nails. Upgrade Rex to Rodgers? Hell yes. Orton to Rodgers? Super. But the he Bears would do better to improve their O-Line and WRs than upgrade from Cutler to Rodgers.

Yes, Rodgers is an elite QB, but I don’t think it would have made a difference so far, and predicting the future is tenuous at best. The Bears could win multiple SBs with Cutler, too, if the Defense, STs, and O-Line all perform famously.

by Sweetness Lives On on Aug 13, 2011 4:59 PM CDT up reply actions

it would make a huge difference

The difference between Rodgers and Cutler is huge. & seeing how that is by far the most important position in the game, it’s quite obvious that it would make a huge difference.

There are only 4 or 5 teams in the league that Rodgers wouldn’t immediately improve — unfortunately, we are certainly not one of those 4 or 5 teams.

by MakeHalasProud on Aug 13, 2011 9:01 PM CDT reply actions

Make a huge difference <> Win multiple Super Bowls

When I wrote that “I don’t think it would have made a difference so far”, I meant in terms of winning the Big One. I don’t think that the Bears would have won the Super Bowl with Rodgers already – being that Cutler was sacked 87 times in the last two years, and Jay is quite a mobile QB.

And since there’s no such thing as a free lunch, it would cost the Bears mightily to upgrade even from Cutler to Rodgers. So unless you’re dealing in complete hypotheticals, the Bears would have to weaken themselves at several other positions to make that upgrade. So it’s my contention that the Bears could make a bigger difference upgrading on the OL, or signing a HoF-caliber WR, or a top-tier CB, than the difference between Rodgers and Cutler.

So are you dealing in hypotheticals, or backing away from your claim of multiple Super Bowls? Because simply to ‘make a huge difference’ doesn’t necessarily mean anything to the bottom line in the trophy cabinet.

by Sweetness Lives On on Aug 14, 2011 4:42 AM CDT up reply actions

of course it's a hypothetical

there is no way the Packers would trade Rodgers (hint: because he is really really good).

Elite QB (Rodgers) —> chance to win SBs.

Erratic QB (Cutler, Rex) —→ unlikely to win a SB. You have to pray that your QB can go 3 or 4 games in a row without self-destructing (damn single-elimination playoffs).

Game Manager QB (Orton) —→ chance to win a SB If the rest of your team is really good. Granted, that is a big “IF” – though, that is also Chicago Bears style football: great D and Special Teams, run the ball.

by MakeHalasProud on Aug 14, 2011 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Wow.. So you're comparing Cutler to Rex... I see what you did there.

Dude Rogers is elite and we get that but Cutler is a shade under him and has way less to work with. If you’re not taking the full picture of what a QB works with under consideration, then what’s the point?

Rogers chances to win SBs depends on his O-line, his class A receiving core, and his defense like most SB winning QBs. This same elite Rogers has been in the same system for 6 years and got to sit and learn for two of those years from one of the greatest QBs ever. That same elite and steady Rogers pissed away his first playoff game. So at least hold guys to the same standard. Cutler won his first playoff appearance and was hurt in his second one. Pretty simple.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

Sometimes I think that it's been so long since Bears fans saw a good QB...

….that they simply can’t recognize one any longer.

Erratic QB (Cutler, Rex) —→ unlikely to win a SB. You have to pray that your QB can go 3 or 4 games in a row without self-destructing (damn single-elimination playoffs).

Are you kidding me? As Dils pointed out: You’re really comparing Cutler to Rex? Well, I won’t call you an idiot, but I think only an idiot would do that. (See what I did there?)

If the Bears had Cutler in Super Bowl LXI against the Colts, behind that particular offensive line, it would have been a VERY different game. And they almost made it again with Cutler last year.

Frankly, I read all I need to know about you personally when you compared Jay to Rex. Have a nice life.

by Sweetness Lives On on Aug 15, 2011 5:13 AM CDT up reply actions

You sound like a Packer fan, in that case get off our boards, and go to your own. If that’s not the case, you sir are off by a long mile.

by transylvanian bear on Aug 30, 2011 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Really?

I bet you that if the roles were reversed and Cutler played the same sorry ass game Rogers did against the Packers in the NFC title game while Rogers got hurt after one half, you and others would be saying “Hey Cutler got lucky. So what he got to the SB, if Rogers didn’t get hurt he would have lost. What a Jerkface”

And my point is just that. I’m not taking away credit from the Pack for winning the title, they earned that. But why is no one willing to make the honest observation that Rogers and the Pack got there barely beating a 3rd stringer? People want it both ways. They want to say that the Bears were going to go 5-11 last year and bitch about the line, and at the same time take credit away from the QB for getting that team to the NFC title game. I don’t think it’s as wide a gap as you and others claim.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

too much Kool-Aid

just because we want our QB to be better (or at least comparable) to Green Bay’s QB, it doesn’t change the sad reality that is nowhere close to being the case.

Cutler is like Rex 2.0, or maybe even 3.0. He is certainly better than Rex, but their are some distubing simmilarites between them. It is extremely difficult to win a SB with a gunslinger style QB.

Cutler is damn good

I agree with Dils also. Cutler as achieved more with less support than a lot of the top tier QB’s. Rodgers, Brady, Peyton, Rivers and etc all have the benefit of being in the same system for mutliple seasons. Except Brady, most have been able to grow with the same group of WR’s. Familarity with an offensive scheme means each year you only have to work on executing faster and being more efficient instead of learning new termology and a new playbook. And when you can execute faster, you limit the negative effetcts of not having a dominate OL, which is why even with GB shaky OL(yes their line is not all that) Rodgers dont take many sacks cause he knows the offense and where the ball needs to go.
