Olin Kreutz to Join Competing Team?
From Brad Biggs: "Kreutz’s agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports would not reveal the suitor, but said Kreutz will play for a "competing team" if the 34-year-old decides to pick a new home. Kreutz, who played for the Bears for 13 seasons and was named to six Pro Bowls, is past the stage in his career where it’s about the money."
Update: Kreutz to visit Saints.

It's past the money
It’s just about the respect of possibly sabotaging your future just so he can have a little extra time to make a decision.
It’s about the money. Book it, done.

I think thats
the case…..Like benson, mark anderson, mark bradley, and now brad maynard and rashid davis….

And none of them succeeded
Aside from that one game Benson had that will never happen again
"I see PRIDE, I see POWER, I see a BADASS MOTHA WHO WON'T TAKE NO CRAP OFF NOBODY!"
Benson's had a pretty successful 2 years in Cinci
That said, I’m pretty sure he never could have had that same success in Chicago, and we’re better off with Forte too.
1 year
He averaged 3.5 yards a rush last year. The fact that they gave it to him over 300 times makes his 1,100 yards seem more impressive than it really was.
It's too bad
he couldn’t/wouldn’t retire a Bear, but he’s not a difference maker by any stretch, so I’m not worried about who he plays for. I wish him good luck.
DEJESUS!!!
So its not all about the money and you want to play for a competing team
Yet you turn down the Bears after they wouldn’t offer you the contract you want? Can you say hypocritical….
Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

Its okay
lots of teams lose a popular old vet and he plays one more year before calling it quits…I don’t see Olin playing more than 2 years. I’m glad we’ve moved on and got the youth movement going.

Am I the only one
That would LOVE to see Olin on an NFC Central team? Knowing what we know about his limitations, from injuries to plain ol’ age catching up with him? We’d have a field day with that team. He’d be a revolving door for Melton, Adams, Paea… for just about anyone we put in the middle. I’d love it.
You mean NFC North, right?
I don’t think we can time travel but it’d be hilarious to see him in blue and silver.

I would hate to see it emotionally
But i’d love the fact that they wouldn’t be able to run it up the middle.
We won't either with Suh and Fairley, so it'll balance out.

ravens and niners need centers
but the most I see on these teams is that they have looked at kreutz and not made an offer…..Wonder if the Bears did the right thing if he is having a hard time finding work….

I'm officially over you, Olin
He could have retired a Bear with all the goodwill that comes with it in his retirement (read: money) but instead he balks at $4 million because they didn’t show him the “respect” he deserves (read: money). Now, we’ve got all this revenge type talk of how it’s not about the money (read: it’s only about the money) even though the only reason he isn’t with the Bears is the money.
So long, Olin. I hope your agent explained to you what that extra $500k you wanted is actually going to cost you long term.
When he retires in a year or two
Chicago will welcome him back with open arms. I don’t think too many people in Chicago hate Kreutz for this.
Maybe Olin is in debt with his bookmaker, He seems to need some money..

Either his agent is an idiot or he thinks we are.
Not about he money??? Yeah, right.
BTW, aren’t they all competing teams?

Ya know what Olin you go play your below average ....
…. football in the division so we can take advantage of your shortcomings . All this I wanna be a Bear for life was crap . Your just concerned with the money & I really hope you get signed for the vet minimum . Just die like a man rather than whoring your services to the highest bidder .

Didn’t he turn down more money from elsewhere (Miami?) last time he was on the market to return to the Bears?
The guy’s got more money than he should ever need, if he’s not a complete idiot, so at this point I would be very surprised if it was actually about the money. On the other hand… would you work for less than you feel you’re worth if you didn’t absolutely have to?
Of course, it’s all speculation on our part but I’m seeing a great deal of petulance on the part of Bears fan, not dissimilar to how Broncos fans reacted to Cutler’s departure. Perhaps we’re not as mature and level-headed a fansite as we’d like to think.
Just Dave (on possible new OL signings): JaMarcus Russell. He's been standing in front of better quarterbacks his entire career.
No he stated he wanted to be a Bear for life . He got a very fair offer ....
… and decided it wasn’t good enough . Sorry hes a 34 year old center , on the downside of his career and what he was offered was more than fair . Lets look at some of the others and compare ……… David Baas 29 – five-year, $27.5-million * right at 5 Mill a season ……. John Goodwin 32 – three-year , 10.9 million * 3.5 Mill a season ……. Chris Spencer 29 – two-years , 6 Million * 3 Mill a season ….. We offered Olin one-year , 4 Million which is right around one of the best offers to any free agent center . So he turned down the second best offer made to a center , from a team he wanted to stay with & loved & then had the huevos to call that being low balled ?
Also this is nothing like the Cutler situation . If he signs with someone outside the NFC North , good for him ….. He signs with an NFC North foe , well eff him .

All that does make it sound like it’s the perceived disrespect from the Bears that annoyed him more than the money. Whether they meant it as such, or were too abrupt with him, is another matter and one I have very little interest in. However…

…sorry, I’m still hearing “Waaaaaah!”
Denver fans would be laughing at us right now for statements like that, and rightly so.

Its not a Waaaaah situation for me , its a good riddance situation . And how in ...
… the hell is recieving one of the best offers for a Free Agent center a disrespect or a slap in the face ? Lets be honest he wanted too much and the Bears front office said no . I wish him nothing but the best …… unless he’s a Packer , Vike or Lion . Rumor has it the Saints & Ravens are lookin at him . Good for him . He needs to go get his 4.5 Million out of some other schmuck , because lets be real he was worth what we wanted to pay him and his ego couldn’t handle that his skills are eroding & thats hes not worth that type of money any longer .
And where is there any whinning from me ? Seriously ?

Not vastly different to the kind of toys-out-of-prams projectile tossing that was bleating from Denver. Seriously.

Hate to disagree , but its totally different man . But if you wanna see it that way whatever.

Hmmm
no reason why Kreutz (or an player for that matter) should have to sign a contract for less than he thinks he is worth, but there is no reason for the Bears (or any team for that matter) should pay a player more than they think he is worth, too.
The Bears made a more than fair offer for a player of Kreutz’s diminishing skills, he said no, so the Bears moved on and got a player younger, bigger and at this point probably better for less money. People should be congratulating JA not beating him up.

That’s my point. It’s a business and both sides are looking out for their own interests. For fans to turn on Kreutz the way Denver did on Cutler is just pathetic. Pathetic.
