Edwards inks 1 year deal w/ SF 49ers
Yeah, he'll likely be suspended for a few games, but the Bears missed the boat on this one. Edwards on a one year deal will be like Williams on a one year deal, highly motivated. A 4 WR set with Edwards, Williams, Knox and Hester/Bennett would be excellent. I know lots of you don't want him, but I'm upset about losing out on this guy.

My question is why not??
Why would you not take a 3.5 million, 1-yr flyer on a very talented wide receiver? I’m sure he’d rather be in Chicago than SF

I don't get it either.
This guy is a premium talent and although he didn’t kill it last year, he was pretty damn good: 16 games, 53 catches, 904 yards and 7 TD’s. I love the idea of one year deals with guys like this who have stuff to prove. Knox and Hester are nice receivers, but they’re not the player Edwards is.
Isn't Roy Williams really similar to Braylon?
They both had one big year, both top 10 picks, Braylon’s only a year younger. Braylon’s best year had more TDs, Braylon was a little bit higher a pick, Braylon had better numbers last year, okay. But Roy is familiar is Martz’s offense and put his biggest numbers ever in that offense. It’s pretty close imo.
the guy is a dumbass
have you not had your fill of tank johnsons/cedric bensons? i don’t want the bears turning into bungles 2.0 49ers actually have a hole in the receiver position, especially now with Crabtree injured, where as the Bears have good but not great receivers, no reason to take on a head-case like edwards.

How'd Randy Moss work out for NE?
How’d Michael Vick work out for PHI?
How’d Dennis Rodman work out for CHI?
How’d Ray and Jamal Lewis work out for BAL?
The NFL is loaded with criminals, convicts, nutjobs, crazies, you name it. Sometimes taking a shot on a guy in a low-risk capacity like this one (1year/3.5 million) can move your team up a notch. Worst comes to worst they cut him and lose out on a few million. They’ve taken plenty of chances on washed up shitty players, why not take a flyer on an in-his-prime crazy one?
you are looking at all those situations superficially
Rodman and Moss are introverts, who benefited from an established system and coincidentally (Or maybe NOT) joined teams that had won 3 championships with the same staff in place. Vick was a classic case of being surrounded by the wrong people, an owner who didnt hold him accountable and friends who didn’t understand how serious of a crime dogfighting is. Ray and Jamal Lewis were home grown players, not talents walking in via free agency. Braylon does not compare to these players, as he is not crazy but simply dumb. Edwards is looking for a job, he currently (or was as of now) unemployed and still managed to get arrested for a barfight. Furthermore, I don’t consider him an elite talent, he is more of a tier 2 type player, Vick has elite atheliticsim, Rodman was an elite defender and rebounder, Moss was an elite receiver and simply chose not to play as one at times, Ray Lewis was also an elite LB in his prime. Braylon isn’t an elite receiver and he isn’t crazy, he is just a man who makes stupid decisions and not someone you bring into your organization unless you really (or desperately in the 49ers case) need the help at the receiver position, which the bears don’t. The Jets are in win now mode and they let Edwards walk and picked up a guy who hasn’t played in 20 months. Simply too many red flags for a position that frankly doesn’t need him or the headache he brings.

Rec'd for appropriate application of the word "dumbass".
I like the WRs we’ve got. If any position deserves some cash thrown at it at this point, it’s definitely G, not WR.
He's the clear
number one option there. He’d be fighting with Knox, Williams, Hester and Bennett for targets here. Since he’s on a one-year, prove-it deal, he just wants to rack up numbers.
DEJESUS!!!
Meh it is what it is
But I think a major red flag is that he’ll get suspended like you pointed out. With an opening schedule as brutal as ours with perhaps the NFC’s top 3 rated teams as our first 3 opponents, do we really need to risk signing a player who won’t be allowed to play for the first few games?
Top that off when we might have a better WR in Roy Williams who is available for ALL 16 games next season, and improving players such as Johnny Knox and Earl Bennett, at this point for all the talent in the world we can’t risk adding stupidity into the WR corps.
Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that
