But I think it also has to do with the D
ours is better, so Hayden might look better in ours than the Colts. Just a thought.

Well I gotta thank T-Train ( AKA Timothy Hockemeyer ) for this revealing info .....
Hayden allowed a 91.0 quarterback rating while Jennings allowed a 74.1 to opposing QBs. Jennings is being really under-rated by Bears fans. No, he’s not great. But he was actually better than Hayden or Bowman last year in coverage. Jennings is a decent corner. Not great, but better than Hayden, who isn’t good in coverage or against the run. Jennings allowed 50.7% of the targets thrown his way (71) to be caught. Hayden allowed 65.5% of those thrown his way (58) to be caught. In fact, Hayden allowed 2 more receptions on 13 fewer targets. Hayden also missed 2 more tackles, recorded 1 fewer stops, allowed 1 more TD and had 1 few pass deflection and allowed 43 more yards after the catch on just two more receptions. Hayden did have one more INT (2 to Jennings 1).
I think Jennings , Bowman & the Moores are all we really need . Besides whos gonna get gone if Hayden does come in ? Jennings ? Doubtful , hes a solid starter at this point . Bowman ? Yet again doubtful , hes our only corner with size & one of our best cover corners . DJ Moore ? Not no , but hell no ….. hes our best nickel back & could even on day be a solid starter . Josh Moore ? Doubtful , the kid is showing he wants it . So really who goes if Hayden comes in ?

NFCC
Jennings’ play in the NFCC made a lasting impression on me. Just by watching the highlights on NFL.com (link), Jennings gave up 88 yards on 3 receptions on the very first series of the game, leading to Rodgers td run. In the 3rd, he gave up 25 yards on a pass interference. Then flagged for pass interference in the 4th giving up another 20 yards.
In my mind Jennings needs to go.

The Packers had a perfectly called opening series
These things happen… Jennings is a solid pro, but an upgrade would be nice.

So one bad game and hes gotta go ?? And not to mention ...
… that the bad game came aginest one of the best offenses in the league .

No
But he was was exposed all season long.
by boondock_saint812 on Aug 8, 2011 1:12 PM CDT up reply actions
Prove it.
Nothing exposes the Bears defense more than missing tackles the way Bowman did in week 3 before getting benched.
"Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win."
I could post game highlights proving it all day long.
Week 3 was against the Packers, who MidWay pointed out above that they have one of the best offenses in the league.
It seems like every game Jennings is getting beat and giving up big plays. As he proved in the NFCC if you can beat them, hold them.
by boondock_saint812 on Aug 8, 2011 1:48 PM CDT up reply actions
Come on, show me some game highlights
I want to see them. If he was getting beat “every game” then surely there must be more than enough video of it.
What stood out to me even more was:
As he proved in the NFCC if you can beat them, hold them.-I’m guessing you’re referring to the pass interference he was called for in the NFCC. I can’t find a replay of it at the moment, but that call was borderline to say the least, as with many other pass interference calls. It happens to all cornerbacks, and it’s not right to say he was purposely cheating out of desperation.
Also, you may have forgotten, that out of all our cornerbacks, the one who has gotten harassed the most by Calvin Johnson these past 2 years has been Zack Bowman.
"Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win."
Okay, maybe not every game.
Wk 10 vs. Vikings (TD to Harvin), Wk 12 vs. Phily (29 yd pass to Cooper), Wk 16 vs. Jets (TD to Holmes), Wk 17 vs. Packers (34 yd pass to Jennings, 1:30 mark), Playoffs vs. Hawks (46 yd pass to Obomanu), Playoffs vs. Seattle (24 yd pass to Stokley, 4:42 mark), NFFC vs. Packers (entire first drive by Packers, 3:40 mark, 5:50 mark)
I was referring to the 2 pass interference calls he got in the NFCC. Okay, I’m sorry for saying that he purposely cheated because he couldn’t cover the Packs #3 receiver at the 3:40 mark in the video I supplied.
I’m not saying Bowman is the secondaries savior cause he got beat a lot. But then so did Peanut. I was just pointing out Jennings because he sucked ass in the Bears biggest game since 06.

Yeah seriously
Remember how bad Tillman was against Carolina in the ’06 playoffs?
Pat Riley is the devil.
06?
That day Steve Smith tore us a new one? I think that was 05..

It was the '05-'06 season
The playoff game against the Panthers occurred in January 2006.
Pat Riley is the devil.
IMO, that was a terrible coaching decision.
Not really a player issue. Steve Smith was the unquestioned best receiver in the NFL that year. Yet the Bears, for some strange reason, decided that they’d cover him one-on-one. Against a team with really no other offensive weapon. Yeah, that worked fantastically
Jennings can stay
Bowman can go
"I see PRIDE, I see POWER, I see a BADASS MOTHA WHO WON'T TAKE NO CRAP OFF NOBODY!"
Are those career numbers
or just last year?
I personally think we need to draft a 1st or 2nd round CB next year just because Tillman isn’t going to last forever anyway

Even so, there's no harm in bringing him in and letting him compete for the startle job
Besides, given Tillman’s history of often getting dinged up, having another quality option around won’t hurt.
Pat Riley is the devil.
The startle job
The obvious metric for determining who gets the startle job is to see who gets the biggest reaction when they sneak up behind you and tickle you.

but a camp battle would take place and someone would go

bingo
Tillman
D.Moore
J.Moore
Bowman
Graham
Jennings
Hayden
all talented, would love to see these guys compete.
Let us cavort like the Greeks of old! You know the ones I mean.
Solid number 2 or 3
I’d feel better if we had someone else on the roster over the size of 5’10" who could come in a be a solid starter…can we just fuse Bowman and Jennings together.

I don't understand how
you could let go of a CB who 1) has good size and 2) had a 6 pick season a couple years ago. We’ve already got 2 CB’s that are identical to Jennings size, both of the Moore’s. Plus we have Graham who I think should get reps at CB. He played well in 08.

Cause Bowman for all his ballhawking skills
is very injury prone and not so good in run support which Lovie puts lots of emphasis on.

Hayden should sign. He's got better stats than Jennings and Bowman. Upgrade for sho!
How about a Carimi pancake for your A$$
but are those stats career or last season?
because there’s a reason Hayden was a top free agent a few years ago whereas Jennings couldn’t get any playing time and was untendered last offseason despite having only 4 years experience

I can see the argument for sure, his career stats are surely better
than Jennings, but players are only as good as what they’ve done lately. Look at Olin’s, he was great for a long time, and has an enormous history, but last season he blew, and now he’s gone. Look at all of Favre’s career stats? Last year ended in a crumpled heap.
Now, you can look at Roy Williams’ stats and make the same argument, but Roy is much cheaper than Hayden will be. Don’t get me wrong, I like Hayden, but I’m not sure he’s worth 6mil+ (which is what his salary from Indy would have been).
I don't think he gets 6 mil a year...
at least not from the Bears. And while the NFL is a “what have you done for me lately” league, every situation is different. Farve and Olin are both older players who had been trending downward the past few seasons (with the exception of Farve’s first year in Minn). Hayden is still reasonably young, and the same with Roy. The potential and age is there for them make for a decent career here or elsewhere, whereas Olin is probably done after this year or next and probably won’t improve too much over where his is now.

Very true
there is quite a bit of potential, and really, we’re risking much of the season on the potential of players to live up to expectations.
Since he was released by Indy, you’re right, he’s not likely to get that much money, but I think the ChiTrib story mentioned that he had 9 interested teams. There’s always the chance someone will open the pockets to land him, and it probably wouldn’t be us.
The two things we have going for us are these:
1) he’s a local boy
2) he’s familiar with and likes the system we play
Ya
I’m for the risk in most cases since we’re kinda deep at DL, plus we’ve got a good coaching setup for that.
The risk at OL scares me…4 out of 5 starters playing a position they haven’t played at for more than 5 games…with the 5th starter being Williams…yikes

Kreutz was 34
Hayden’s 28. Thats a big difference. And Haydens not getting 6 mil+
Pat Riley is the devil.
Dome vs worst field in the NFL
Hayden’s numbers skewed by his one bad game against Denver… when they were teammates a year ago Hayden was the starter and Jennings wasn’t retained…they’re the same age…Hayden matches up better against bigger receivers…
Lots of reasons to think Hayden would be more valuable to the Bears than 1-year of PFF numbers suggest.
With the caliber of QBs and WRs we will be playing against this season
We can use all of the help we can get
Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

Kelvin Hayden would be a good signing
Seems healthy, motivated, and is a real playmaker in the Tampa 2. He also is decent in pass coverage where his numbers from last year are just that, from last year. The Indy defense in general underperformed as a unit.
I think with a better supporting cast he will play even better.

Hayden has 1 more visit left dosent mean he cant sign today.
I hope hes stays here and dosent leave..Go Bears
Unfortunately, the bears would keep...
Bowman. You know JA will keep him because he was the one who drafted him and JA will just say he has more “upside”. Which is probably true though. We saw Jennings ceiling last season, and there is still a debate about the better CB after Bowman clearly played below the potential that we saw in 2009. I think Jennings is the safer bet, but after JA saw one of his own late round picks pull down 6 ints., I bet he fell in love. we have all seen the way JA has worked in the past, sorry Jennings.
I don't think we know that
It’s possible JA sticks with his guy, but Bowman’s not a young guy anymore. He turns 27 during this season and has never been a consistent anything.
This is an honest I don't know kinda question
but isn’t Lovie in charge of roster decisions once JA acquires the personnel? I understand some collaboration might be needed for salary purposes but Ultimately doesn’t the HC decide the roster? Lester?
Above all; keep 'em guessing, never let them lose their sense of confusion.
Ultimately JA can overrule Lovie on any roster transaction decision
He probably rarely does it, but if/when he does, there’s no way for us to really know about it.
Pat Riley is the devil.
