Thoughts From NFL Week 2: Chicago Bears and beyond

ATLANTA - SEPTEMBER 18: Matt Ryan #2 of the Atlanta Falcons greets Mike Kafka #3 of the Philadelphia Eagles after the game at the Georgia Dome on September 18, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)

NFL week 2 is just about in the books, with only the St. Louis Rams and New York Giants yet to play.  The injury bug hasn't been kind to either of these two teams of late, so I'll set the over/under of players injured in this game at 4 (that's just how the luck in the NFL goes).  Rams QB Sam Bradford may want to practice his fetal position going up against an angry Giants defense.  Even if the Rams drop to 0-2 I still like them to win the NFC West.  On to my thoughts!

Star-divide

1)  Are the Lions that good or are the Chiefs that bad?

2)  I wonder if the Ravens were taking the Titans lightly or riding too high after spanking the Steelers in week one...  Or are the Titans legit?

3)  Did the Jets wear those unis on purpose?  Was this throwback weekend?  No.  Keep them in the closet.

4)  I would have let Sebastian Janikowski attempt the 67 yard field goal.

5)  Oh look Tony Romo's great again...  MSM resume fawning...

6)  Mike Kafka looked like a legit NFL QB in his brief time against the Falcons.

7)  Are any Bears fans actively rooting against Redskins QB, and former Chicago Bear, Rex Grossman?

8)  How about Kyle Orton?  Any Bears fans hoping he fails?

9)  The Bears need to lock Matt Forte up.  I have a feeling this will be a weekly thought until Jerry Angelo pays him.

10)  I can't wait to hear the Cam Newton haters explain this week's 432 yard performance.

I know... but the 400+ two weeks in a row is impressive

Whenever Mike Ditka boards an aircraft, it changes its call sign to Bear Force One.

No rookie had ever thrown more than 400 yards in back to back games

And to play against the Pack D yet still keep the team within 7, is impressive by any means.

Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

One of them was a garbage touchdown

The line was -10? -10.5 Packers over Panthers, so that garbage touchdown hurt a lot of people.

Bears. Bulls. White Sox.

The Chiefs are that bad

They’ve already been outscored 89-10

And with that margin they’re still in dead last of pass yards per game.

Oh my circle of friends is not happy. Outside of the couple of fellow Bears fans its: Chiefs, Packers and Colts fans. Talking football used to be fun…now it just feels like baseball season again.

oh boy..

1) Are the Lions that good or are the Chiefs that bad?
- The Chiefs are pretty bad, and many key players out for the season.

2) I wonder if the Ravens were taking the Titans lightly or riding too high after spanking the Steelers in week one… Or are the Titans legit?
-I´m not sold on the Titans yet.

3) Did the Jets wear those unis on purpose? Was this throwback weekend? No. Keep them in the closet.
Oh that was the Jets? the regular uniform isn’t much better..

4) I would have let Sebastian Janikowski attempt the 67 yard field goal.
Janikowski is like Ronaldo. He is chubby, but know how to kick a ball.

5) Oh look Tony Romo’s great again… MSM resume fawning…
Ribs are the recipee for greatness. Oh wait, thats the “Outback” restorant…

6) Mike Kafka looked like a legit NFL QB in his brief time against the Falcons.
Not Cucaracha at all..

7) Are any Bears fans actively rooting against Redskins QB, and former Chicago Bear, Rex Grossman?
8) How about Kyle Orton? Any Bears fans hoping he fails?
I Like them both. I just like Cutler better.

9) The Bears need to lock Matt Forte up. I have a feeling this will be a weekly thought until Jerry Angelo pays him.
Pay the man!

10) I can’t wait to hear the Cam Newton haters explain this week’s 432 yard performance.

1- I think it’s a combo of both

2- Yet again i think it’s a combo of both. Hasslebeck finally has a legit WR to throw to, Britt, and the Ravens looked very flat.

3- They’re super ugly

4- I agree

5- Romo sucks

6- Ehh I think a lot of QBs could come into that eagles offense and look legit

7- No. i’m actually rooting for him. I would like to see him succeed

8- Now Orton on the other hand.. I can’t stand that guy. Hope he fails. It’s Tebow time.

9- 7 years 60mil$ contract 25mil guaranteed

10 – Cam Newton’s a beast

7.

All about the sex cannon. Gotta root for him over there..I still don’t think we ever gave him a seviceable enough line to work behind, as it made his cases of the dropsies/butterhands exponentially worse.

1 more thing

The “Dream Team” is overated. Falcons proved that last night in showing the Eagles have major issues defending against the run as well as protecting a mobile QB in Michael Vick. Michael Turner had a good game, which I hope Mike Martz is taking notes on how to run a more balanced offense…

Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

1. Lions are legit.

7 & 8. Rooting for them both, especially Orton – he was tough when he was here.

9. Pay him… AND THEN USE HIM.

My responses...

1) Are the Lions that good or are the Chiefs that bad?
yes

2) I wonder if the Ravens were taking the Titans lightly or riding too high after spanking the Steelers in week one… Or are the Titans legit?
yes

3) Did the Jets wear those unis on purpose? Was this throwback weekend? No. Keep them in the closet.
Agreed, and supported

4) I would have let Sebastian Janikowski attempt the 67 yard field goal.
Why the hecks not?!?

5) Oh look Tony Romo’s great again… MSM resume fawning…
Plork the Girls (in more ways than one ;-D)

6) Mike Kafka looked like a legit NFL QB in his brief time against the Falcons.
who? You could put Jonathan Quinn behind that line and with those WRs and that RB and he’d look legit. Doesn’t mean he is, tho.

7) Are any Bears fans actively rooting against Redskins QB, and former Chicago Bear, Rex Grossman?
mebbe, but not me

8) How about Kyle Orton? Any Bears fans hoping he fails?
NECKBEARD 4 LYFE!!!

9) The Bears need to lock Matt Forte up. I have a feeling this will be a weekly thought until Jerry Angelo pays him.
Agreed, a thousand times over, agreed

10) I can’t wait to hear the Cam Newton haters explain this week’s 432 yard performance.
Who cares about a bad team going nowhere fast?

by Doshi on Sep 19, 2011 4:48 PM CDT reply actions

1) Chiefs are that bad, but the Lions do have a great passing offense.

2) Titans are probably better than last year, but the Ravens got way too cocky.

3) Hopefully we won’t see them again.

4) I’d let Sea Bass kick it from wherever he wants to.

5) Coming back from a broken rib to lead your team to a win is legitimately impressive.

6) Yeah, Eagles are great at developing QBs.

7) Absolutely, I’d love to see the Sex Cannon lead the Skins to a division win. I just don’t think it will happen.

8) Tebow didn’t show me much to indicate that he’s better than Orton, but I’d like to see Neckbeard land somewhere that will embrace him as a quality game manager, maybe the Dolphins.

9) Yeah, its only going to get worse for the front office. I don’t understand their strategy at all.

10) He’s greatly exceeded my JaMarcus Russel level expectations, but I think some credit should be given to OC Rob Chudzinski, who knows a thing or two about high flying offenses.

I'm going to the Cowboys-Skins game next week

As far as I’m concerned, Grossman gives me another reason to hate on the Skins. I think it’s great so many of you like him. I’m just not that big of a person I guess.

We really should pay Forte.

$19 million in cap room. We must be waiting till we get more money. We clearly don’t have enough to sign Forte long term. The man is essentially our entire offense. We either hand off to him, or throw it to him and hope he scores.
And about Cam Newton—Knock it off. He’s playing well and clearly doesn’t suck. Anybody who says he is is delirious and doesn’t either doesn’t own him in a fantasy league or has never had to go up against him. You can’t call him a bust ’till he plays like a bust. Enough said.

by MidwayMonster55 on Sep 19, 2011 6:16 PM CDT reply actions

1) Midway you shall find the truth

2) Got cocky, careless, and the offense was probably on a day off.

3) I’ll take it as long as Rex Ryan doesn’t go topless

4) He’d hit it, or at least come very close.

5) The rollercoaster that has been his career, which allows him to be the the Boys starter for five years running.

6) Could be argued that the Falcons spent all but maybe half an hour analyzing all of Vicks moves, plays and body language (you know, the one that actually matters). No surprise sometimes putting the backup on the field gives the offense a boost… until the D picks up on his plays.

7) I want to see him on top of the NFC-E. That means the other three massively overrated QBs on the division are looking at this sexy behind.

8) If that means the oher one stays on the bench, Plus, I wouldn’t mind if he still was our starting QB. Cutty is a lot better, but until our o-line finds prolonged consistence, we could even have Montana at his prime, he’d still get killed on every drive. Neckbeard was actually being quite decent until that injury.

9) The price is only going up by the week. He’s the only guy that gets open in the time the dumb forest collapses around Cutler, so at this rate, we will lead the league in all-purpose yards. I want him locked before someone starts whispering at his ear some other teams that could really use a double-threat RB.

10) Right now, I’m sold on him, but let’s see how he plays as defenses get acquainted with him as the season goes. But right now, he’s proving he actually used the prolonged offseason to improve his passing game.

6. Mike was so "Kafka-esque"

He looked good for sure, and love his name.

8. I like Orton, but want the Broncos to lose cause I have $100 riding on them losing at least 9 games.

Rams

sucked tonight. Could not hang onto the football. Could not get in the end zone. Cadillac Williams watching the backward pass get picked up of the turf and run in for a TD was embarrassing as hell – but a good teachable moment for my 12-year-old…

And the Giants D are a bunch of.......

really bad actors. Sorry, 2 guys playing possum and going down in a totally lame way just to slow down that no huddle was worthy of an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and a new set of downs. Totally low class.
