I'm not too fond of my starting receivers this week.

I lost Miles Austin so I’m left with Santana Moss, Nate Burleson and either David Nelson or Julio Jones to start at my other receiver spot. Any suggestions folks?

Scoring model?

When you go to somebody's house, you don't crap on their floor. Being a fan of one team does NOT give you license to be a dick to fans of another.

Corollary: When people are visiting your house and behaving themselves, them being a fan of a different team is NOT a reason for you to piss in their beer.

Whatever you do,

don’t start Jerome Simpson. Your team would get smoked.

That's a tough call

Both Jones and Nelson are borderline 3rd WR plays.

The Bills are going to throw more (because they’ll be behind), but Jones is the better WR. I guess I’d go Jones, but I would call that a coin flip. Won’t be shocked at all if Nelson has the better day.

by SouthernCub on Sep 23, 2011 2:06 PM CDT up reply actions

It's standard scoring but the commish set-up a 3 WR/2RB format so that 3rd receiver is important.

I figure that Nelson has been looking pretty good as the Bills #2 and they’ll probably be playing from behind so he’ll get his chances. Jones has been a bit disappointing but then again so has the Falcons passing game.

I have confidence in my RB’s. I have Ben Tate and Fred Jackson as my starters. Cadillac is on my bench but I’m going to drop him for Starks. I should’ve won these past weeks but have been screwed by certain players. First week was Mike Thomas and last week was Antonio Gates and Arian Foster. I’m due for a win lol

by frenchbears113 on Sep 23, 2011 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions

If you already have Jackson going...

I’d lean toward Moss or Jones. Nothing annoys me more than watching a touchdown scored by neither of the two guys I have going which is a real threat with Stevie Johnson and their TE Chandler. I’m starting Moss this week in a deeper league because he’s been solid through 2 games and Dallas has issues with their DBs.

by timoteo1312 on Sep 23, 2011 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions

I think he's starting Moss regardless

The question is who is the #2 (I agree with Burleson there) and #3 (choice between Jones and Nelson).

I’d personally lean slightly toward Jones. But I’d not feel uncomfortable playing Nelson over Jones, either. And given that the Patriots will likely be ahead, I think Jackson’s presence is irrelevant to the decision (because the Bills will need to throw).

I wouldn’t start two WR from the same team (or a WR and a TE), but I have no problem starting a WR and RB from the same team.

Quarterback Surplus...

1st League: Who should I start: Matthew Stafford at Min, Matt Ryan at TB, or Cam Newton vs. Jacksonville?

2nd League: Pick 2 out of 4: Cam Newton, Sexy Rexy, Kevin Kolb, and Joe Flacco…

by AbhiD on Sep 23, 2011 2:18 PM CDT reply actions

In my opinion...

League 1: Stafford
League 2: Newton and Kolb (Grossman is close though)

by SouthernCub on Sep 23, 2011 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Stafford for sure

Ryan’s banged up a bit from last week, and Newton’s gotta come down at some point.
2nd League – oy, agree Newton and Kolb, but all those guys are potential boom/bust candidates.

If its free, take two.

by T.J. Shouse on Sep 23, 2011 10:00 PM CDT up reply actions

definatly cam newton

He has thrown for 400 it the first 2 games

by SuperBowlXX on Sep 24, 2011 6:31 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions

I don't think Stafford will be as good this weekend...

Though I don’t think Minnesota will win, this is still the NFC North and this is still the Detroit Lions. I think they’ll be challenged on the road against a division opponent and I feel like fantasy wise Newton vs. Jacksonville will be the better play…Even Matt Ryan at Tampa doesn’t seem horrible after his comeback vs. Vickless Eagles last week…thoughts?

by AbhiD on Sep 23, 2011 2:30 PM CDT reply actions

Start whomever you want

You asked for opinions, I just prefer Stafford slightly over Newton. I think the Lions will just keep throwing every week. My only concern is injury, but he’s not missed time yet. Newton should do well also, I just prefer Stafford.

I’d take both Stafford and Newton over Ryan. The 4 TD masked the fact that he only threw for 195 yards. And I think they’ll run it more against TB (because I think they’ll get the lead early).

by SouthernCub on Sep 23, 2011 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed...

sold on Stafford, at least until we knock him out on MNF…

by AbhiD on Sep 23, 2011 2:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I won't be shocked when Stafford gets hurt

Until then, I’d go with him unless you have Brady/Rodgers/Brees/Vick. I will say Newton is quickly moving up my confidence meter, though. He’s outscored Stafford both weeks, so I certainly won’t be shocked if he does it again. I just have a sense the Panthers will go to the run a bit more against a bad team this week.

by SouthernCub on Sep 23, 2011 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Who should I start?

Tom Brady or Donavan McNabb? I’m so confused.

14 team non ppr with a flex position

must start 3 unfortunately:
Green-Ellis @ Buffalo
McCluster @ San Diego
Pierre Thomas v Hou
Felix Jones v Washington
Ryan Grant @ Chi
Javon Ringer v Den

by timoteo1312 on Sep 23, 2011 2:41 PM CDT reply actions

so average...

Felix Jones, Pierre Thomas, Green-Ellis….I don’t think McCluster will do that great against SD…and I go to Michigan, thus I hate Javon Ringer.

by AbhiD on Sep 23, 2011 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Yikes

BJGE for sure. I’d stay away from Grant and Ringer. See where Felix Jones is after Friday’s practice. Probably Jones and Thomas. Still scared McCluster only gets 8-10 total touches.

by SouthernCub on Sep 23, 2011 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Seems like the way to go.

If Jones is out am i stuck going McCluster with his 10 touches or do i pray for a miracle touchdown from Ringer?

I think McCluster be as (or more) involved than Grant or Ringer.

If Sproles is available, he must be owned.

Caddy wasn’t particularly impressive in his debut, and S-Jax is rearing to come back.

Sproles for sure

Cadillac is at best one week from returning to irrelevance (if he’s not already there).

If Gates is playing, I start him over Cooley for sure

I’d probably still start him over Davis. But it sounds like Gates will be a gametime decision. At least Davis (or Cooley) plays after Gates, so you can wait and see.

Pulled off the victory even with sitting Drew Brees haha

Having trouble on which WR’s to play

Roddy White(P)
Santonio Holmes (P)
Devery Henderson
Dez Bryant(P)
Chad Johnson
Devin Hester

pick 3

by HeuristicLineup on Sep 23, 2011 3:30 PM CDT reply actions

Having trouble because the options are too good, right

Megatron is auto start unless Stafford gets injured. If Romo plays Dez gets a start.

Houston’s defense appears to be decent this year and they could give NO trouble in a possible let down game plus Brees has so many options Devery might not see that many targets. Just say no to Hester.

Stafford & Co. were able to pass on the Bucs defense, I expect Atlanta to be able to do the same. I’d roll with White as my 3rd this week.

White, Holmes, and Bryant

unless Bryant doesn’t play. Then it’s Henderson. Chad Johnson/Ochocinco hasn’t shown anything yet and Hester hasn’t really either.

My QB situation is ugly

Fitzpatrick against the Pats or Hasselbeck against Denver?

I think Fitzpatrick is safe enough to play. NE defense (whom I have to start in this league) hasn’t looked impressive but I’m just waiting for the week where he falls off a cliff =/

Hasselbeck is a solid enough backup? Tennessee’s schedule is kind of soft this year…

by Say Ramrod on Sep 23, 2011 4:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Always depends on what else is available

On any given week, he could give you 15 points. It just depends on who the other alternatives are at backup QB.

by SouthernCub on Sep 23, 2011 5:17 PM CDT up reply actions

My toughest decision this week is Newton or Brady. Suggestions? standard scoring.

by Beer Down! on Sep 23, 2011 7:21 PM CDT reply actions

No decision needed

Go Brady. Newton’s a rookie, Brady’s an MVP. Go with the hardware.

If its free, take two.

by T.J. Shouse on Sep 23, 2011 10:10 PM CDT up reply actions

That's what I was defaulting to

I wasn’t sure if the Jacksonville secondary was that much more favorable for Newton than Brady being … Brady…

by Beer Down! on Sep 24, 2011 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Brady Being Brady is damn near enough to start him over almost anybody.

There are maybe 4 QBs that I’d start over Brady, and those 4 are ONLY if there is a perfect matchup to exploit. Like, if Brady’s facing a team with an incredible defense but generally average or below average offense while Brees is facing a team with a bad defense but great offense, I’ll start Brees in that case. But Brady Being Brady will basically force me to start Brady in almost every other case.

by Doshi on Sep 24, 2011 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

Newton is looking like a nice backup for Brady. But I’d start Brady over anyone in the league right now, regardless of matchup. I mean, I guess one could try to guess the week that Newton will outscore Brady and start Newton that week. But the odds are you’d be wrong whenever you took that approach. Brady’s been the highest-scoring QB in both weeks in standard scoring. No reason to assume he won’t keep going, and certainly more reason to expect him to keep dominating rather than Newton.

by SouthernCub on Sep 24, 2011 9:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Gotta choose between Greene and Starks as my flex starter

Tough call since Greene laid an egg week one and only delivered in garbage time last week, but Starks is playing the Bears.

"You have a young group and if they start feeling too good about themselves, that’s not a good thing. So it’s my job not to let them. So probably they will hate me. But that’s OK too. My wife hates me and she’s still married to me." - Mike Tice

by badsamaritan on Sep 23, 2011 9:48 PM CDT reply actions

Play the Bears card

Starks is going against your team, which has a great D, and the Pack are gonna pass-pass-pass to win. Go with Greene. Starks gets maybe 40 yards this week.

If its free, take two.

by T.J. Shouse on Sep 23, 2011 10:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, normally I'm against the "sit guys playing the Bears argument"

but in this case, it works. And Greene has an easier matchup versus the Raiders. Hopefully he finally shows something.

In one of my leagues

I just traded away Tolbert from SD for Aaron Rodgers. I think its one of the most ridiculous trades ever, but my trade partner has Stafford (thinks he’ll hold up all season) and needed RB help. How awesome is this trade for me? (btw: QBs on roster before that were Flacco/Bradford, then traded Flacco and dudes for Matt Ryan, now have Rodgers/Ryan/Bradford.

Terrible terrible trade by him

He could have gotten an upper-tier RB from somebody in your league for Rodgers. Even a Mendenhall for Rodgers deal would have been reasonable. Instead, he got a guy in a clear timeshare situation for one of the two or three best fantasy QB in the game. I wouldn’t have even dealt Stafford for Tolbert.

Good fortune for you, though. And good that your league didn’t veto the deal, even if it was an incredibly lopsided deal (I hate when leagues veto trades just because they aren’t “even”).

Do you mean BEN Tate?

Because Brandon Tate vs Stevie Johnson isn’t even worth a discussion.

I assume you mean Ben Tate (RB) vs NO. If so, I’d check on Foster’s situation at game time. Start Tate over Johnson if Foster doesn’t play or will be limited. If it’s a split situation for Houston, then it’s just a coinflip between Tate and Johnson. But if Tate is getting the vast majority of the touches, go with Tate.

A veritable butt-load of fantasy decisions...

Team 1 (standard and boring as anything you can possibly imagine):

Sit 1 of Hakeem Nicks, Kenny Britt, Steve Smith South, Brandon Lloyd (currently benched Lloyd)
And I’ve got a trade offer on the table. I’ll get Mendenhall, Romo, and Nick Folk in exchange for my Kenny Britt and Brandon Lloyd. My other RBs are Forte and Turner, and my other QBs are Schaub and Freeman. I’m thinking some kind of reject or a counter involving Menden and Lloyd while not losing my other top 3 WRs…

Team 2 (0.5 PPR, big rush bounty)

Start 2 of Dexter McCluster, Julio Jones, LT, Mike Thomas, Felix Jones, and DeAngelo (currently starting Dexter and Julio)

Team 3 (0.2 PPRush, 0.2 PPReception, 25 YPP return)

Start 2 of Caddy, Ginn, Collie, S-Jax, and Amendola (I’m thinking that either Caddy or S-Jax start, depending on health, and I’m leaning Ginn b/c of return yardage)

Team 4 (standard and boring)

Bench 1 of Turner, Benson, Ryan Matthews, and Blount (currently benched Blount)
Romo or Cutty? (Romo for now)

Team 5 (0.5 PPR)

Start 2 of Dexter, Dez Bryant, Jon Stewart, Reggie Wayne, DeAngelo, Denarius Moore (currently Dexter and Dez)

Team 6 (0.5 PPR)

Start 2 of Burleson, David Nelson, DeAngelo, Mike Thomas, Scott Chandler

Team 7 (boring)

Freeman or Henne?
Start 2: Julio, Deion Branch, Davone Bess, Dexter, Eric Decker, Denarius Moore

Thx for the help, guys!

by Doshi on Sep 24, 2011 8:54 AM CDT reply actions

I know little about PPR (never played in such a league as I don't care for that style)

So caveat my opinion as you will on Teams 2, 3, 5, and 6.

Team 1: sit Lloyd. As for the trade, who would you be dropping? Is it a 3 WR league or a 2 WR + Flex league?

Team 2: I’d go with Julio Jones and DeAngelo Williams actually. Williams has done nothing so far, but I’d give him one more week. I’m just not confident McCluster does a whole lot more than he did before Charles got hurt.

Team 3: Amendola isn’t playing, so he’s out. Collie has a sorry QB situation, so I’d go with Jackson/Williams and Ginn (who may even catch a couple of passes this week as well).

Team 4: I’d probably bench Blount as well. Just too many question marks about the regularity of his touches, especially if TB falls behind early. I’d start Romo if he’s playing, but you might not know until after Cutler has played. So you may get caught with your pants down.

Team 5: I’d start Bryant (if healthy) and Wayne. If Bryant is still not healthy, I’d go with Williams. This is again because I’m not too sure McCluster gets that many more touches.

Team 6: Burleson and Williams or Nelson.

Team 7: Freeman, Branch, and (I guess) Jones.

I realize I’m saying Williams in a lot of these cases. He’s still a starting RB, and I feel like at some point he’ll have a good day. And if he has a good day, it’s going to be better than what these WR3 can do.

by SouthernCub on Sep 24, 2011 10:23 AM CDT up reply actions

Feedback...

Team 1: It’s a 3WR league, unfortunately. I’d MUCH prefer the Flex league. But thems the breaks. I’d probably drop either Gostkowski or Bernard Scott.

Team 4: Both Kitna and Rex Grossman are FAs right now. Does that change anything?

by Doshi on Sep 24, 2011 10:36 AM CDT up reply actions

Okay

Team 1: If you can pull a Mendenhall/Lloyd trade, by all means do so (I’d be shocked if someone accepted that, but it’s not even the most lopsided trade on this page, so who knows?). I don’t like the current trade at all though. You’d then be starting a questionable WR every week, with no bye-week protection. And Mendenhall and Romo aren’t huge upgrades over your current options (because one of those RB and QB would then have to go to the bench).

Team 4: as long as you have someone on your bench that you’d be fine with waiving, then I’d feel more comfortable going with Romo. If Romo is out, then you can go pick up Grossman. I’m just very wary of our O-line against Green Bay’s pass rush.
