Will this continue to be a problem both on offense and defense
The last two games have been bad, and have been losses. I wont get into that but, what I will get into is the fact that I am noticing our team is having a hard time against talented tight ends. Last week it was Graham and this week Finley. They reason I am a little concerned is we play ever more talented tight ends look no further than this week we play Greg Olsen of the panthers. If we continue to have Steltz ATTEMPT to cover these type of tight ends this will result in squirrels being punted.
Take a look at upcoming opponents and their respective tightends
-Panthers Olsen/Shockey
-Lions Pettigrew/Scheffler (play them twice)
-Buccaneers Winslow
-Eagles Celek
- Chargers Gates
- Vikes Shiancoe/ Rudolph
We have to come up with a way to slow the opposing TE’s down because Finley KILLED us in the red zone yesterday and graham was moving the chains prior to that. As I posted above we will continue to get tested by opposing TE’s. Maybe the return of Harris and Wright will help but we need to figure out something.
I know this is Martz offense and he is allergic to TE’s but for the love of god can you atleast go to Kellen in the redzone?! 6’7 I repeat SIX FOOT SEVEN (not quoting weezy) whether it’s a slant, curl, in route or a jump ball he is a mismatch down in the redzone. We also saw yesterday he is pretty nimble with the ball in his hands on his lone catch. Why cant we go to davis to get 5-7 yard chunks? And actually have a second or third that is not 33 yards to go?
So am I justified in my concern on Tight ends getting by our defense and by Martz not trying to use Davis even a little? Or am i looney?

Doesn't matter whether we think you're right or not
When Martz says “Tight Ends? We don’t need no steeeeeenkin’ Tight Ends!”
But yes, we do need to find a way to stop TE’s from killing us defensively….
Having Chris Harris back will help.
We didn’t hear more than a peep out of Tony Gonzalez week 1.

He had 70+ yards receiving.
I’d say that was more than a peep.

Cover Two
can be exploited by a good receiving tight end.
We should get used to it.

and let’s not forget how much of a mismatch Jermichael Finley is.. for almost anyone…
