Quotes from the Bears Rankings article...
No Bears receivers ranked in the top 50 in receptions or yards or third-down catches.
The Bears offense was run heavy…and Tice wants to focus more on the run.
31st in sacks per pass attempt [on offense]
29th in sacks per pass attempt [on defense]
17th in points. [on offense]
14th in points allowed. [on defense]
so bad line play and mediocre results….hmmmmm…there’s a theme there.
Again, the Bears need to upgrade what around Cutler?
There's a fine line between stupid...and clever!
For upgrades bears just need
an all of the above option. the Twitter convo between cutty and Bmarsh was interesting and funny, curious to see where bears address wr need.

I know you are being sarcastic...
but there’s a really poignant conclusion you are drawing. The Bears need to start drafting better talent overall. The BPA strategy might be just what the Bears need in the next draft and FA period. Bringing in a GM who can do that is vital to the short and long term success of the Bears. Simply trying to force fit guys into the Lovie system is why the Bears have so many huge fails in their drafts. I hear people allude to not having to get talented CBs because the Bears play the Tampa2. That, IMO, is the whole problem with the Bears talent acquisition strategy. Tim Ruskell would perpetuate the JA regime and this type of failed strategy. If Lovie is such a great coach, then give him talented players and see what happens.

Jerrys problem was
after a couple three bad drafts he was caught in a loop of having to draft for position rather than BPA and ending up drafting the same positions over and over.
In Lovie’s system it is not that you don’t need talented CB’s you just don’t need the shutdown corners that a Rex Ryans system depends upon. Tillman is a perfect Lovie system CB talented but not a shutdown corner.
I like the BPA stragety but the Raiders have done that forever and year after year you see them fail and just shake your head at all the talent and little results.
Let’s be practicable, Lovie is not going to get the chance to benifit from the next few drafts, He has next year and will have maybe two or three new pieces to the puzzle to work with and he is out the first year he doesn’t make the playoffs so the new GM can bring in some other guy for us to kick around.

Jerry's problem was that he thought he knew a diamond in the rough when no one else did.
Drafting player 3 to 4 rounds higher than most “experts” predicted they’d go. Now before you shout me down that “experts” are simply talking heads who don’t really know the draft or football explain to me why they get huge paychecks just to give their opinions. They get paid because they know what they’re talking about. Jerry always assumed they didn’t.
Above all; keep 'em guessing, never let them lose their sense of confusion.
that was my biggest problem with ja was he seemed hell bent every draft to pick a diamond in the rough

Are these rankings at the end of the season?
The entire offense stuck it up after Jay went down. I’d like to see where they ranked when Jay was playing.

Harvesting stats like that can be misleading.
I could throw out a bunch of stats (that happen to be from my favourite football website) that tell you that the Bears defense was one of the best in the league (and the line was dominant against the run) , that the Bears had the best special teams in the league and that the offense was top half of the league before Cutler got hurt.

I wonder
which of those WRs will get the tag? Does anyone know if the rules are different with the new CBA? The Bears desperately need a big-time playmaker.

After watching the game last night, I have decided to re-do my "Dream Offseason" list from yesterday
And it now goes something like this:
Trade both our 3rd Round Picks in two separate deals with the Broncos and Dolphins to acquire LT Ryan Clady and WR Brandon Marshall. Ryan Clady will not command a very high grade in the trade market, as he’s been injured as well as the fact thanks to Tebow, he’s no longer seen as a LT for Denver. A trade I’m going to compare with him in terms of value is the Jamaal Brown where a mid round pick was sent for an O-Lineman with a similar resume.
Then, in FA sign Mario Williams and Malcom Floyd, returning Mario to being a 4-3 DE. Floyd would become the #2 complimenting both Marshall and Bennett.
And in April:
1st Round Pick: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
2nd Round Pick: Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson
3rd Round Pick: Used in Ryan Clady deal
3rd Round Pick: Used in Brandon Marshall deal
4th-7th Rounds: BPA
So we will get a dominant LT, 2 great WRs, a pass rushing beast, our starting CB of the future, and a TE who is as complete of a player there is coming out of college that will be a great fit for Tice and his new TE friendly scheme.

Same with Marshall
Miami gave up two 2nd round picks for him and he’s posted back to back 1,000+ seasons.
And Erik, I believe Kirkpatrick will be gone in the top 15.

I was thinking send this year's 3rd and a conditional pick where it could be as high as a 1st and a minimum of a 2nd rounder for next season
And once again, some players that are top 15 ranked, will not be selected in said top 15. I think Kirkpatrick could be a player sitting around when the Bears pick.

Not sure about that
And the 3rd rounder would just be part of a deal that could involve more picks. I’ve never seen an OL command anywhere near a first rounder in a trade.

Because Clady isn't the best LT in the league. Try trading for Joe Thomas and see what they ask for.
by frenchbears113 on Jan 10, 2012 9:23 AM CST up reply actions
And that's with Joe Thomas
Not Ryan Clady. I’m thinking Thomas would command a 1st rounder and maybe a 3rd, I don’t think Clady would command nearly as much.
Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that
by Erik Christopher Duerrwaechter on Jan 10, 2012 9:26 AM CST up reply actions
No but he's still a good, young LT so they wouldn't just accept a 3rd rounder. They'd still ask for a 1st based of the fact that he's still pretty damn good. LT's are NOT an easy thing to find let alone a franchise LT
by frenchbears113 on Jan 10, 2012 10:17 AM CST up reply actions
Hmm...this could get tricky
I still can’t find any LTs in the history of the league being traded for anything resembling a 1st round pick. Jamaal Brown, for instance, could have been a player to warrant at least a 2, but instead the Saints got a mid rounder fortheir former LT. A trade, no matter the cost, should still be explored with the Broncos for Clady. If needed, I’ll give up on Marshall seeing their are more options in FA if it means getting Clady would become easier.

by awfullyquiet on Jan 10, 2012 11:48 AM CST up reply actions
Mathis is the only reasonable passrusher we could get in FA
Mario is needed still in the Texans defense and they’ll tag him. The Lion will release their whole offense line before they’ll let Avril go. Colts may be in rebuilt mode now so a clean-house would be in order. I see Mathis as one of the casualties.
Avril
we will see. they have got some huge contracts on that team
Another point of interest for the Bears
The Texans will also need to sign Foster and Myers aside from Williams. They might not be able to retain their center, Chris Myers, who is one of the best in the league.
You're never a loser until you quit trying - MIke Ditka
That would be a good idea
However, given how well Houston’s defense played without Mario Williams, they could move forward without him and retain the other two while drafting a real 3-4 OLB in the 1st round.

That is gonna have to stay in dreamland.
That would bbe like trading Carimi for a 5th rnd pick. we dont need him because doesnt protect the blindside and is injured. Clady has proven to be one of the better LT in the game. Unless Marshall gets arrested in the offseason, no way he gets traded for less than what they got him for. He is still playing great football.

And
With Ryan Clady, he will be on the last year of his contract in 2012. The Broncos may try to move him out and look for a dominant RT. That, or use the freed up cap space to try and capture a big time player at receiver or possibly to target players that can beef up the front 7.
If we can’t get both Marshall and Clady, then how about a heavier deal for Clady and then sign Vincent Jackson or Marques Colston in FA?

All this talk about Clady makes me think...
Why wouldn’t they just move him to the right side if they’re not comfortable keeping him on the left side. Tebow’s blindside needs to be protected, ya?
So… What’s keeping a former Right Tackle for the Bronco’s who’s good in pass protection from going back to right tackle and exerting pass protection skills on the right side? So he has to kick out a different direction. Whoopie.
Five foot three seems to thrive on his misery...

To be fair, they have a GLUT at OT...
Franklin, and Clady with Harris in the background…
Unenviable position. I don’t think Fox and Xanders are at all unhappy about this situation.
That said… Are we still talking about Sundquist? After reading his website, and combing his drafts compared to needs and bpa and how the drafts went… I’d say, as a GM… I’d throw my hat in with him.
