Sources: Titans deny Bears request to talk to Dowell Loggains for Passing Coordinator
Multiple sources (via twitter here, here, and here) indicate that the Bears have been denied the opportunity to talk to Dowell Loggains (picture above, left, short), QB Coach of the Titans, for the Passing Coordinator position. Of particular interest is the last "here", which is Michael C. Wright of ESPN with the following:
Sources said Titans would have granted permission to Loggains only if it was for OC job.
Is this the kind of world shattering news that will send the team spiraling into oblivion? No, but it had been noted that Cutler lobbied heavily for Loggains. Cutler and Loggains know each other from Cutler's Vanderbilt Days.
Is it truly the highway to the Danger Zone? No, but in an era of increasing Bears cronyism, and possibly as a gift for having forced Mike Martz on him, this would have been nice for Jay Cutler.
That said, the name of Jeremy Bates is likely to get bandied about again, as well as probably some others. it shouldn't be a position that's too hard to fill, but it seems like the Bears did their due diligence in trying to get someone for their franchise quarterback.

He is tall
but he only looks huge because Loggains is tiny.

He made the last Bears 1000 yard receiver. He can make another one.

do we not have enough ex HC,s on our coaching roster, and when is someones EGO going to bite someone in the ass
that might become an issue...
but on the other hand, it’s the same situation as an up-and-coming position coach wanting to move up the ladder. The later might want to lay low, learn a bit more and rehab his image, the other might only care in getting a contract elsewhere one step above in the same span.
I'm alright...

Passing coordinator
I say , give Cutler the chose he wants for the job. He’s given plenty of his blood , sweat and tears on the field. He’s earned one pick.

Another reason Reggie McKenzie didn't come here ....
…. he wants to gut the coaching staff and have his guy there . Heres the link to the article ….. Reggie McKenzie: I wanted to bring my own guy in
Honestly I’m kinda glad we decided ( or he decided ) to not bring him in or even make a hard push for him .

Jackson was a pretty darn good coach to be fired day one of the new GM's tenure .

Jackson is also the guy who threw away draft picks
to try and win now, and instead missed the playoffs.

are you implying
spending the 3rd on Prior in the supplemental draft, trading the 1st round to Cinni, the 2nd round to NE,also traded a 4th round pick to wash for Campbell and a 7th round pick
Those are indeed the draft picks I was discussing.

Considering some of the Raider drafts...
The talent they brought in is greater then what they could have drafted.

So, you're glad that the Bears are being run ass backwards?
And have their head coach involved in interviewing GM candidates?
The Bears are doing the same darn thing they did to us the last time: Proclaim that they are making big changes. And then, everything stays the same.
They’re gonna end up having to give the job to Ruskell, who was hired by Angelo… the guy they just friggin fired! Because who in their right mind is going to take a GM position that gives them no power to do anything? Any GM candidate will be forced to keep their coaching staff, and probably their crappy ass scouting staff. And then, they’ll have to answer to Ted Phillips on top of it.
Leave it to the Bears to screw this whole thing up.

Totally agree
It seems the Bears don’t really want a GM, they want a glorified talent scout for Lovie.
you guys are funny, isn't that what all NFL GM's are "glorified talent scouts"?
. "Most football teams are temperamental. That's 90% temper and 10% mental."

A Real GM Can hire/fire coaches too
like what McKenzie just did. But the Bears don’t want that because Lovie is their coach.
Hire AND fire head coaches?
Weird.
Above all; keep 'em guessing, never let them lose their sense of confusion.
More to your point
How many Bears executives get hired away? I could not find any because there are none with any talent or skill other then knowing a McCaskey.

Give it to Lovie
Let Smith be both the head coach and GM. Then, he has no one to hide behind. He either performs or everyone include the front office will know whose to blame.
Doing it the Bears way
Hiring coaches before hiring the GM. No wonder they haven’t interviewed anyone yet.

Well
on most staffs, the HC has control over the coaching staff…so..generally speaking, it’s not like they’re doing anything wrong, other than maybe the part where the GM doesn’t get to hire the head coach.

And the HC will be interviewing the GM candidates. It's a total disaster.
I wish the MMCs would grow some balls and fire Ted, who’s gonna chase away Cliff Stein… the most qualified person to do Ted’s job.

Are the Bears just waiting so that they "have to" hire Ruskell?

they should run in during Snead’s interview with the Rams and say “We want you so bad!!!!” and then rain singles on him like an 18 year old in a strip club.

Ted Phillips isn't ready yet
he is still writing down the questions he wants to ask to the prospects.
They're not in a hurry to sign a GM because they're not in a hurry to sign Forte...
“Sorry Matt, we really didn’t want to slap this Franchise Tag on you, but we really don’t have any time to work on your contract. Oh well, better luck next year…”
Ruskell watch, day 2 (3,4,5 or 6?)
I originally said they’d name him GM by the end of this week. I’d like to now move that to the beginning of next week. Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.
Above all; keep 'em guessing, never let them lose their sense of confusion.
They fired Angelo, yet they're gonna give the job to his buddy, who already destroyed one team with horrible drafts.
TOTAL FRIGGIN DISASTER.
When Ted Phillips even floats the idea of Ruskell to the MMCs, George should fire him on the spot.

Should have fired Phillips to begin with. That's the point.
Above all; keep 'em guessing, never let them lose their sense of confusion.
How are we supposed to "bridge the talent gap" in our division,
When the same moron (Ruskell) is still there doing the drafting? With presumably the same scouting department that produced the abysmal drafts that led to Angelo’s firing? And a track record of ruining the Seahawks with bad drafts?
I’m sorry… I’m so friggin pissed about this. If the Bears were a publicly traded company, their stock would be plummeting right now.

We're looking to "bridge the talent gap"
by targeting no one, interviewing no one, and also talking to no one.
Mark my words, this inaction is the smoking gun for Ruskell’s promotion.
"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct
i can see it now.
second week ruskell’s been in the position: bears trade away their first round pick for cullen jenkins and sign tim jennings to a 3-yr, $40 million dollar deal.
and then I sit in front of my computer and sob.
So...
the Bears will not be interviewing one more qualified candidate NOT already on the team’s payroll. My guess is the Bears pick up Bates, who IIRC, is currently not employed. That’s assuming anyone with aspirations of a long-term coaching future wants to waste a year collecting a check from the Bears. I get the sense that, by keeping Lovie without question, the Bears have painted themselves into another corner. IMO, this is the start of another wasted season for the Bears. Hopefully it results in the firing of Lovie. For all his great coaching, his teams keep NOT succeeding.
There's a fine line between stupid...and clever!
No successful GM candidate
Who is actually in demand around the league. Will agree to walk into this situation with Lovie guarenteed to be here during his first year. This is basically Ted Phillips talking the McCaskeys into giving Lovie more power, because if they hire a real GM, Phillips will be exposed for the clueless, yes-man that his is.
I almost feel like we would have been in better shape to just keep Angelo and Martz in place. Or fire Martz and hire a real OC.
