Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Sources: Titans deny Bears request to talk to Dowell Loggains for Passing Coordinator

Multiple sources (via twitter here, here, and here) indicate that the Bears have been denied the opportunity to talk to Dowell Loggains (picture above, left, short), QB Coach of the Titans, for the Passing Coordinator position. Of particular interest is the last "here", which is Michael C. Wright of ESPN with the following:

Sources said Titans would have granted permission to Loggains only if it was for OC job.

Is this the kind of world shattering news that will send the team spiraling into oblivion? No, but it had been noted that Cutler lobbied heavily for Loggains. Cutler and Loggains know each other from Cutler's Vanderbilt Days.

Star-divide

Is it truly the highway to the Danger Zone? No, but in an era of increasing Bears cronyism, and possibly as a gift for having forced Mike Martz on him, this would have been nice for Jay Cutler.

That said, the name of Jeremy Bates is likely to get bandied about again, as well as probably some others. it shouldn't be a position that's too hard to fill, but it seems like the Bears did their due diligence in trying to get someone for their franchise quarterback.

that might become an issue...

but on the other hand, it’s the same situation as an up-and-coming position coach wanting to move up the ladder. The later might want to lay low, learn a bit more and rehab his image, the other might only care in getting a contract elsewhere one step above in the same span.

So, you're glad that the Bears are being run ass backwards?

And have their head coach involved in interviewing GM candidates?

The Bears are doing the same darn thing they did to us the last time: Proclaim that they are making big changes. And then, everything stays the same.

They’re gonna end up having to give the job to Ruskell, who was hired by Angelo… the guy they just friggin fired! Because who in their right mind is going to take a GM position that gives them no power to do anything? Any GM candidate will be forced to keep their coaching staff, and probably their crappy ass scouting staff. And then, they’ll have to answer to Ted Phillips on top of it.

Leave it to the Bears to screw this whole thing up.

Well

on most staffs, the HC has control over the coaching staff…so..generally speaking, it’s not like they’re doing anything wrong, other than maybe the part where the GM doesn’t get to hire the head coach.

I wish the MMCs would grow some balls and fire Ted, who’s gonna chase away Cliff Stein… the most qualified person to do Ted’s job.

When Ted Phillips even floats the idea of Ruskell to the MMCs, George should fire him on the spot.

How are we supposed to "bridge the talent gap" in our division,

When the same moron (Ruskell) is still there doing the drafting? With presumably the same scouting department that produced the abysmal drafts that led to Angelo’s firing? And a track record of ruining the Seahawks with bad drafts?

I’m sorry… I’m so friggin pissed about this. If the Bears were a publicly traded company, their stock would be plummeting right now.

by targeting no one, interviewing no one, and also talking to no one.

Mark my words, this inaction is the smoking gun for Ruskell’s promotion.

by Nih1lus on Jan 11, 2012 1:29 AM CST up reply actions

So...

the Bears will not be interviewing one more qualified candidate NOT already on the team’s payroll. My guess is the Bears pick up Bates, who IIRC, is currently not employed. That’s assuming anyone with aspirations of a long-term coaching future wants to waste a year collecting a check from the Bears. I get the sense that, by keeping Lovie without question, the Bears have painted themselves into another corner. IMO, this is the start of another wasted season for the Bears. Hopefully it results in the firing of Lovie. For all his great coaching, his teams keep NOT succeeding.

There's a fine line between stupid...and clever!

by LostInSTL on Jan 11, 2012 7:08 AM CST reply actions

No successful GM candidate

Who is actually in demand around the league. Will agree to walk into this situation with Lovie guarenteed to be here during his first year. This is basically Ted Phillips talking the McCaskeys into giving Lovie more power, because if they hire a real GM, Phillips will be exposed for the clueless, yes-man that his is.

I almost feel like we would have been in better shape to just keep Angelo and Martz in place. Or fire Martz and hire a real OC.
