AFC Divisional Playoffs: Denver Broncos at New England Patriots Open Thread

DENVER, CO - DECEMBER 18: Quarterback Tim Tebow #15 of the Denver Broncos and quarterback Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots shake hands after an NFL game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on December 18, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. The New England Patriots won, 41-23 (Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images)

Yes, it is here. The match-up predicted in texts of old. The pure one vs. the evil empire. Unbridled optimism vs. methodical destruction.

The Denver Tebows vs. the New England Bradys.

Fate was not so kind to Tim Tebow and the Broncos when they last played. Sure, the Broncos punished them on the ground in the first half, but untimely mistakes and Brady's nose for downfield passing helped the Patriots edge them out. What will be the outcome today? We'll know in about 3 hours...

It’s not a coincidence.

wonder what cutty would look like with bradys oline

Or what Brady would look like with cutty’s. It is a world of difference when you actually get protection and your guys all hit their marks and hold onto the ball. No doubt Brady is a very good QB, but it’s the oline that takes a good QB to an “elite” level. Jus sayin

by chiguy8506 on Jan 14, 2012 8:03 PM CST reply actions

Yeah really

Some think that the draft is a crapshoot and it is to some degree but if you have a plan and a formula, you don’t keep missing on talent.

Paea over Torrey Smith, Lafevour over Antonio Brown and…oh hell just take a look at the 2nd round of the 07 draft http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?season=2007#round2

Where we traded down after trading Thomas Jones and took Dan Bauzin over Eric Weddle, David Harris, Justin Blaylock and others. That draft alone is what’s costing us now and set us back for at least 5 years. Unbelievable.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Jan 14, 2012 8:11 PM CST up reply actions

Sets us back 5 years?

It’s easy to critique in hindsight, but I do think JA made too many mistakes.

I like Paea a lot.

"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct

by propheteer on Jan 14, 2012 8:14 PM CST up reply actions

You can like Paea but Smith is contributing to a playoff team

and went for 841 yards and 7 TDs. He’s be our best WR. It’s not hindsight if you have a plan for what you want for your team. WR a need? Draft one. Saftey has been an issue since Mike Brown got hurt? Don’t pass on Eric Weddle or let GB jump over you and make you settle on Major Wright when you know you wanted Morgan Burnett.

They got guys that get paid a lot of money to have insight. Blaylock would have been our starting guard or David Harris could have been a young starting LB that we now need. So yeah it set us back at least 5 years.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Jan 14, 2012 8:21 PM CST up reply actions

Smith is very one-dimensional and very similar to the Bears WRs

I’d rather have Paea. D-line and O-line are much more important. If that improves the Bears would have their WRs playing better.

Not sure if Burnett is really that much better than Wright. Jury is still out on that one.

The Bears had a very good draft in ‘11, if they do the same in ’12 they’ll be in the playoffs. Won’t set anything back five years. They were in the NFC title game last year with that.

He played about 4 good games this season, including last week. Any other QB would be ripped for coasting on the D to keep games close (like Alex Smith, for instance), but T-Bone is painted as some sort of mystical guru with powers beyond the unknown. Dude is one hell of an athlete, and that’s what makes his dangerous when a lot of teams decide to play prevent and then can’t cover the pass because they’re too worried with the run.

As a University of Florida alumnus, and someone who lives in Detroit and Ocala FL. I’m a big Tebow fan, he’s a great guy. I think he might be a better RB/TE though. He should still have a big roll, but I’m not sure about franchise QB.

Either way, my best friend went to U of M and is a huge Brady fan. So listening to him down talk Tebow right now is pissing me off, and I’m suffering just like all of you.

Well

He’s hated pretty much proportionally as any other guy. Rodgers is a smug asshole who only pushes numbers because he has about 20 eligible receivers on the field, Brees is a stat-padder, Brady knows the opposing D audibles and calls, Manning is an under-achieving choker, Cutler is a whiner, Roethlisberger is fat and a pig, Matt Ryan is a Class-A choker, and so on. Heck, when Brady was all over the news on the “perfect season”, the hate was reaching epic proportions.

Paraphrasing Trainspotting, I don’t hate Tebow, I just think he’s a wanker, and we’re worse than that, because we were beaten by a wanker.
