NFC Divisional Playoffs: New Orleans Saints at San Francisco 49ers Open Thread
2006...2010...2011?
Drew Brees' Saints have some troubles travelling in the playoffs. In 2006, they came to Chicago and got absolutely shellacked in a snowy, beautiful game that sent the Bears to a Super Bowl that I don't remember the outcome of.
In 2010, there was some uproar about the fact that the 11-5 New Orleans Saints had to travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks, who won their division with a completely non-impressive 7-9 record. They lost a much closer game there, 41-36, but it remains--they aren't as good in the plyaoffs on the road.
That brings us to today. The Saints travel to San Francisco, where first year head coach Jim Harbaugh has done some impressive things, leading his team to the 2nd seed in the NFC. Two completely different styles of attack, two very different offensives--it should be a great one.

There's a fine line between stupid...and clever!
so, the battle of the golden helmets begins
and for a change, nobody is questioning if the 49ers could beat ND, let alone an NFL team.
So how is THAT hit legal?
Above all; keep 'em guessing, never let them lose their sense of confusion.
Helmet to Helmet on a RB is legal,
as they don’t consider a runner as “Defenseless”
Strange but true….

Yep.... and per Mike P
MikePereira Mike Pereira
OK crew….runners are NOT defenseless, ergo, no helmet-to-helmet foul on a defenseless player.

But if SF doesn’t want it…screw it

SF D and ST want this game, the O not so much, except for Akers kicking FGs

Let me fix that for you....
This came right out of Martz’s big book of BAD ideas
by David in Maine on Jan 14, 2012 5:58 PM CST up reply actions
If this defense wants to be considered great
they need to score and win this for SF. That’s what the ’05 and ’06 Bears defenses would do. Because Brees is dying to lose this game.
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
Imagine those teams with jay cutler

I love watching a good young defense blossom!
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
with the way both of these teams are playing, the Slack are easily gunna get into the SB.
IF they beat the Giants (they won’t)
I'd kinda like to see the SF Defense go against GB...
but their O would still be hard pressed to keep up….

Why is a giants fan in this game?
"Violence is not always the answer."
"Violence is the question, and the answers always YES!"
Alex Smith off his back foot.
Damn good pass
"Violence is not always the answer."
"Violence is the question, and the answers always YES!"
Wow
Genius call!
"Violence is not always the answer."
"Violence is the question, and the answers always YES!"
I was thinking QB draw, almost right
"Brian Urlacher, coasting down the right sideline. A Sunday stroll into the endzone."
Could it be redemption game for Alex Smith?
If the Pack beat the G-men, it will be the battle of #1 picks of the ’05 draft.
"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct
And ESPN would probably hate that game
No one to kiss ass for
"Violence is not always the answer."
"Violence is the question, and the answers always YES!"
Harken back to that draft
The Bears drafted Benson and could’ve had Rodgers instead. Also, could’ve resigned Jones.
"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
What a catch
I’d love to see the Bears go hard after Finley.

Safeties are the Niners weakness
Terrible angles and tackling.
Whitner should’ve been flagged on that first drive.
"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct
This is the era we're in with these TEs
Defenses will catch up though
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
Not sure about that
Some of them are so tall and athletic that it’s almost impossible to guard.
"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct
Teams will just have to find Safties than can play
Linebackers and corners that can play corner. We’re in an almost gimmick era but defenses will adjust
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
Jenkins is a CB playing S and he got torched
"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct
TEs taking over the game!

Vernon Davis is fucking clutch
You think they double him
"Violence is not always the answer."
"Violence is the question, and the answers always YES!"
Wow, what a game
"Brian Urlacher, coasting down the right sideline. A Sunday stroll into the endzone."
I respect Smith's throw a lot more than Breeses
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
Either one of these teams will be a handful for GB or NYG
"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct
Threaded the needle on that one

I'm happy for Smith
He outplayed Brees and Rodgers and the Pack should be scared as hell
Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!
Saints D are stupid
Vernon is the ONLY one KILLING them on the recieving end lol
"Violence is not always the answer."
"Violence is the question, and the answers always YES!"
True
They had one safety high on that big play. Dumb indeed.

They're give the Packers WRs fits
If they make it that far.

This game makes me think of all the asshats who say that Jay Cutler can't win
Because yeah, Alex Smith can’t win either. Give a guy a good OL, and a beast at WR or TE, and all of a sudden he’s damn good. Go figure.

one of the nice aspects
Of this game was the commentary. Well done, not biased, largely not ass-kissing. With the exception of the green necktie/blue nanny/maroon jacket, I’d likevto see more of that team covering future games.
