This is very intriguing indeed
However, take it for what it’s worth. I like Walterfootball, but there scouting reports and dumped can be questionable.
I would be in favor of bringing Finley. As far as trading up for Blackmon I have mixed feelings. While it would be a huge upgrade, it would be a huge price to pay for just one player. I guess my feeling on it is that I would rather see them hold onto the picks, but I wouldn’t be upset to see them trade up.

Depends on how much we trade up. The Falcons gave up a ton for Julio Jones and their offense was shut out by the Giants.

Wow...a bit too early to speculate isn't it?
I’d LOVE it if this were to be true; however, we still have yet to name a GM, with the very first interview set with Raye this Tuesday. It’s nothing but rumors until a GM and a draft strategy are laid out with said new GM.

They must have been reading here or something
Rumors trading for Blackmon, based on nothing.
"Brian Urlacher, coasting down the right sideline. A Sunday stroll into the endzone."
Too Good to be true
That is just some dude stirring the pot too early just for the hell of it, IMO.
We don’t even have interviews set up to hire a new GM so who is thinking about making these moves? Ruskell? He could say anything to try to get the job. Plus the article doesn’t even site sources, not even anonymous ones!
Jay Cutler is still my quarterback.

I Agree, why are the Bears planning moves like this with no GM?
Could Ruskell be Emperor Palpatine?

I think
Finley will be extended or franchised (though maybe today’s performance will affect that). The franchise tag price for him would be reasonable, and they don’t have anyone else they need to tag.
If they let him hit the market, that would be huge.
They aren’t going to move up to get Blackmon, who could go as high as top 5. They’d have to give up a package like the Falcons gave up, and the Bears have WAY too many holes all over the roster to be doing that.
ps
I like his sourcing. “some are saying”. His neighbor could have told him he thinks the Bears will go after Finley. Any “source” that suggests the Bears are going to make a big push for a player unlikely to hit the market, when they don’t yet have a GM, should be disregarded, in my opinion.
Maybe there was already a plan in place for free agency .....
…… and really any offensive weapon should be on our radar so we cannot discount any rumor . Just because we don’t have a GM yet doesn’t mean we shut down , it just means we ( the fans ) have no where to place the blame right now for questionable decisions .

I think we can discount
a rumor that states we are targeting a player unlikely to hit free agency, when we don’t yet have a GM or the guy in charge of the passing game. I’m not trying to be argumentative, but there’s almost no way this is legit.
Its a rumor none the less ..... And who's to say ......
…… Finley doesn’t hit the open market ? And is it a fact that we aren’t going to be trading up in the draft for a certain player or players ? Thats why these are rumors because neither of us can say with any certainty that yes it will happen or no they will not happen .
Honestly I can see Finley hitting the open market just based off of his play this past season & the Packers not wanting to comit that type of money to such and up & down player . As for Blackmon now that may be a bit of a reach . With other quality WR’s in the draft ( Floyd & Jeffery ) and even more in free agency ( Colston , Bowe & Jackson ) I think trading down is more of a possibility than trading up .

A rumor
implies it came from someone connected to the team. Otherwise it is just speculation by a writer, blogger or fan, which doesn’t tell us anything other than someone’s opinion. I don’t think this came from anyone from the team, because A., the people who would have input on it are not hired yet, and B. Finley is unlikely to hit the market.
Nothing is impossible, but I really, really doubt this came from anyone at Halas Hall. And if it didn’t come from there, then the info is about as valuable as if I said I thought they should sign Vincent Jackson.
Not sure but...
…the logic here doesn’t add up. The reasoning behind not franchising Finley in this projection is to franchise Flynn instead so he can be traded and net GB something versus letting him walk for nothing, but then someone has to pay Flynn top-5 QB money? I dont’ see that happening.
Plus I see no reason GB couldn’t find a way to just extend Finley.
Either way I’d love to get Finley, he’d be a huge weapon for Cutler and we have nothing at the position going into 2012 except for Spaeth.
I still don’t see a scenario where we can trade up to get Blackmon without giving up way too much. We still need a LT (Carimi?), WR, DE, LB, CB… and probably another interior OL, TE and S. We need our picks and need a lot of youth/depth on defense.
If we can somehow trade up for Blackmon using our 1st/one of our 3rd rounders… maybe both 3rd rounders… that’s about as much as I would give.
I think making plays for Colston, Nicks and Finley would be ideal in FA.
I think
Fred Davis potentially gives you as much production as Finley at a lower cost and increased likelihood of availability.

Agree.
But doesn’t Fred Davis have an issue with substance abuse or something, and is on thin ice with the NFL? Or am I making that up? If that’s the case I wonder how a long-term deal would play out. Plus you don’t take away a guy from GB if you get Davis, which is a bonus.

What is his injury situation?
Seems like a good buy-low candidate perhaps? And still likely an upgrade regardless.

I do love Blackmon. More than the hands, size and brute strength,
he’s just got this nasty demeanor on the field, will, aggression, whatever you want to call it. My hope is he runs a 4.55 and drops to the mid-rounds and we scoop him up. Because he’s a beast.
As for Finley, of course, that would be a coup. But 24 year old players with that level of talent and production do not become free agents. Sadly.
