Dre Kirpatrick arrested

The former Bama star CB was arrested for having less than 20 grams of weed on him. Not that big of a deal I suppose because I guess most all college kids do that these days. Bottom line, 20 grams or 20 lbs, the kid is an idiot, 2 to 3 months from the biggest day of his life and he can't put it down. He is projected to go top-10, supposedly the Cowboys, not sure if he would slide to 19/20 because of this little "incident" but I guess it's wishful thinking guessing if he were around we'd have to jump on him. As unlikely as it would be it would be nice to have a 6'2/6'3 guy who could at least line up with megatron for the next decade

Now this is interesting

Rather minor in this case, but just enough to make a dent in his overall stock. I seem to remember Percy Harvin was a top 15 talent, who fell to the Vikes at 22nd(?) overall a few years ago after a similar incident. I’d say, let the coaches interview him, and if he falls to the Bears, take a chance and draft this guy!

But… it’s mostly stupid on Kirpatrick’s part knowing that it’s SO CLOSE to payday and he’s getting busted by the cops for about an ounce of pot…

Because even though we look at these players as men

the reality is they’re still kids who think they’re bulletproof and smarter than any cop. If he was actually dealing, that would be a different story but my guess is this was just a dumb, immature move, by a kid. For those of us who can look back at the dumb things we did in our late teens and early twenties which we didn’t thing were dumb at the time, I can overlook this kind of incident.

Not to say the Bears, or any other team, shouldn’t consider it when interviewing the young man but it also shouldn’t be blown out of proportion. If the rest of his record is pretty clean, this shouldn’t have a big affect on his draft status.

Pot should be legal...

…but besides that if he’s dumb enough to get caught now… when he just needs to hold off until April, that may not bode well for a 4-5 year contract when getting caught will equal suspensions.

Look at it this way

this is his last chance before going pro and risking testing hot for the NFL. Maybe he’s partying and smoking now because he knows he won’t be doing it a couple months from now

There is zero chance the Bears draft this guy.

Reasons:

1) Sam Hurd

2) Tank Johnson

3) The last GM getting fired in part because of risk-taking on low character guys like 1 and 2.

4) He won’t fall down to our spot.

5) Even if he did, we need someone that can block or rush the passer far more than we need someone who can compete with Jennings at the #2 CB spot.

I'd trade a 3rd rounder

to move up and get him if he fell to, maybe 15? A CB with that kind of size seems perfect for the NFC North. Imagine Tim Jennings at his best and twice as big. A physical, intimidating tackler that in Lovie’s D would be awesomely showcased vs both the run and the pass. And pot is just pot. What he was busted with I’d call breakfast on a good day. It might be affecting my judgment, but I still think it’d be the smart move.
