Conte selected to PFW's All Rookie Team

Congrats to our own Chris Conte for being selected as one of the two safeties on Pro Football Weekly's All Rookie Team. Its nice to see our presence felt on the list. Hope to see bigger and better things from Chris in 2012.

Star-divide

I was kind of hoping to see Paea's name on there but I know he didnt put up the stats to warrant a spot. Here's hoping for next year Stephen! Just in case any of you care about Conte's stats. 29 Tackles, 22 Solo, 1 Int, 2 PD

I saw this too

I’m very anxious to see what he can do next year with a FULL offseason to learn the defense and add some much needed bulk.

Also, you forgot to mention that Dom DeCicco got honorable mention for his 13 special teams tackles.

I just realized that says Pro Football Weekly

I was thinkin it said Pro Football Focus

Anyways, him and Dom DeCicco made PFF’s all rookie team as well.

  • Cautiously like him*, lets see how he develops. More bulk is in order to tackle in the NFL.

Mayock had him as his 1st best "safety" not including the CBs that would convert

and his 3rd best overall safety, including the CBs who would convert.

Like I said when he was drafted.. I got to watch a few Cal games last year because i had family in Cal.. and Conte was a beast. He may not be a total “ballhawk” , but he is very good in coverage and is where he’s supposed to be , when he’s supposed to be there

I can't wait to see what Conte can do next season.

But Paea would have been on that list if he would have been played more.

Conte was a pleasant surprise

He made some rookie mistakes but he also made some good plays. And Steltz actually played well.

It's interesting

(And I was never a JA fan) but his final draft class (when Carimi gets healthy and Paeia gets more playing time) may yet turn out to be one of his best.

Nice to see

I guess first year players CAN make an immediate impact.

We might have actually drafted a good starting safety

Unreal. And if Major Wright can avoid the injuries and cut down on his mistakes, we might have two. Conte looks like a solid starter to me.

And Craig Steltz played well down the stretch

This is kind of an odd revelation after having so many issues at the position in recent years… but isn’t the Bears safety situation pretty much set? You’ve got a 23 year old 3rd round pick, 25 year old 4th round pick, and a 23 year old 3rd round pick who have already shown they can do a decent enough job. Conte and Wright are less than a year older than Mark Barron.

The only positions where the Bears haven’t invested in young talent are C, DE (I’m not counting Wootten anymore), LB, and CB. Given at least two more years where the veterans should hold up, the front office can easily fill those holes. I remember talking to my friend before last season about how this Bears team had nothing outside of their veterans, and just a short time later I’m now excited about the futures of (in declining order of excitedness) Melton, Carimi, Conte, Paea, EWilliams, Webb, Okoye, CWilliams, Steltz, Wright. Think about it… almost all those guys were spot players or not even on the map a year ago. Pretty nice job by Angelo in his last year imo.

Finally

Congratulations to the Birdman. If Carimi would have stated healthy it would have been two rookies to make this team. Finally rookies actually getting a chance to play.
