Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

I gotta say, I'm a big fan of what they did at the #2 spot. Also there is some major sleeper potential in the middle of this group (12-18).

Wouldn't mind getting Sanu if Floyd is gone

and maybe drafting AJ Jenkins in the 4th or 5th rounds depending on if we sign a WR or not

Na, I like Sanu over Floyd

-Better speed
-Better route runner
-Equally good, if not better hands
-Better production despite playing with an inferior QB
-None of the character concerns

They all could end up busting...

…but this seems like a very deep WR class to me. While Blackmon may be the only closer to sure-fire #1… Sanu, Floyd, Jeffery, Wright, Toon, Jones, McNutt, Childs (if healthy) all have solid #2 potential and some could become #1’s.

This offseason may fall perfectly for the Bears as they have a chance to get an elite WR FA (Colston, Bowe, VJax), WR class is deep, and Finley/Davis/Carlson are all possible TE FA weapons.

If we can’t get two WRs this offseason that make our roster and outplay Knox/Hester/Sanzenbacher (and possibly Bennett)… I don’t know what to say.

agreed

easily add two wrs and maybe a te depending on what they think davis can do in an O thats better tight ends

I'm just not fully sold on Floyd

though I do like him more than I did earlier in the offseason because i’ve done a little research on him. He does seem to have a slight case of the dropsies

If Jeffery or Wright are there,as well as Floyd

I’d hope they would take Jeffery, or Wright before Floyd..

…. those guys fall to us . If you make me pick I’ll take Floyd every time . My list would go like this ….. 1. Floyd
2. Wright
3. Jeffery

Mine would go something like this...

1. Justin Blackmon
2. Mohamed Sanu
3. Michael Floyd
4. Kendal Wright
5. Alshon Jeffery
6. Nick Toon
7. Marvin McNutt
8. Dwight Jones
9. Ryan Broyles
10. Jordan White

Two big guys I’m not high on are Tommy Streeter and Rueben Randle. Also, I really need to watch some film on T.Y. Hilton.

AJ Jenkins just doesn't stand out to me

IMO there is nothing to his game that really stands out as being great, more just a bunch of things that are good. Also, in the two Illinois games I watched this season he was shut down by mediocre secondaries. To me he just doesn’t posses any of the tools to make him anything more than a decent #3 or 2 at best in the NFL.

McNutt on the other hand has a nice combination of size and speed combine with great hands which give him the upside to develop into a go to WR IMO. Also when you consider that he had only played WR for 4 years (he was recruited to Iowa as a QB) you have to think he’s still got a lot of room room to develop. He was actually considered by many a late first round prospect until the Nebraska game in which he was held in check by Alphonso Dennard. Questions have been raised about his ability to matchup against physical NFL caliber CB’s, however that could be said about the majority of WR’s that come out any given year.

by Joeb'n777 on Jan 20, 2012 12:23 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

He did have 1276 receiving yards

in an offense that had 2392 passing yards. He had over half his team’s passing yards! Do we know of another case like that? I was giving Sanu credit for his 1206/3136 ratio, but Jenkins’ is another level of ridiculous.

I’m with you in that Jenkins doesn’t blow me away, but I’m not going to dock him for having a couple mediocre games late in the season… it’s not easy to get a ton of yards when your QB throws for 80 total. If Jenkins tests out well (if he’s an actual 6’1", that’d be nice) I’d take a flyer on him late. He’s kind of an intriguing wildcard, in a way.

by YaoPau on Jan 20, 2012 12:45 PM CST up reply actions

I totally agree, I'd take a late flyer on him to

However, I would take all the guys listed above before him. Personally I think he’ll go mid to early 4th, and I think that’s a good spot for him.

by Joeb'n777 on Jan 20, 2012 12:55 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

He's going to be a real shocker

He’s projected as a 4.3 – 4.4 40 guy.

He’s a solid 6’1 190 – 200 which isn’t a “huge” WR, but he’d be the biggest on the Bears roster

great hands. Catches everything within reach and WAS the offense for the UofI
as stated above he had close to half of his offenses passing yards his way. And it’s not like he’s a 1 year wonder. He really turned heads as a freshman and had a slowed down sophomore year due to an injury. As a junior he had 746 yards and 7 touchdowns. and wel, as a senior he had 90rec for 1276 yards and 8 TDs. including a 12 rec 268yd and 3 td performance against Northwestern.

He is projected to be anywhere from late 2nd to early4th, depending on how the draft falls and what WRs go. If WRs end up being a hot commodity I could see him going as high as mid 2nd round and no later than early 4th

He’s great in the zone and often finds the soft spot in coverage. Great sideline awareness.
His only real knocks are his slender frame and he doesn’t run the full route tree.
Not real sure why more people aren’t looking into him. IMO he’s just as good, if not better than Sanu. The only thing Sanu has on him is size

IDK about 4.3

He may have run a 4.3 at one time but he plays like a 4.4 guy. Also, I would say his hands are good but not great, he had some drops in the games I saw.

My biggest problem with him is that he relies on the deep ball to much and isnt consistent in the intermediate passing game. You said it yourself “he doesn’t run a full route tree”. That’s a problem. Usually that means either a guy is in an offense that doesn’t utilize a full route tree, there is a major flaw in his game that coaches are trying to mask by letting him focus on routes that play to his strength or both. Either way it can make for a difficult transition to the more sufisticated NFL passing offenses. Throw in his slender frame and difficulty beating a jam and you have a mid round developmental guy who will have a difficult time contributing early in the NFL.

Also, all of those things I mentioned such as physicality and intermediate route running are two of Sanu’s strengths and reasons he is considered a first round prospect and Jenkins is a 2nd day guy at best.

And another thing regarding his production...

When you look at his production last season he only had five 100 yard games. Of those five, two of them came against the woeful defenses of Indiana and Northwestern and another came against Arkansas State. As for the other two one came against Arizona State which I can’t comment on because I didn’t see the game and know nothing about the team. The final one came against Michigan. I watched this game and remember that he was held in check for most of the game. It wasn’t until Michigan had a large lead late in the game and dropped into a deep zone that he got the large majority of his yards.

I think Wright is too much of what we already have

the shorter, faster guy. If he turns out like Steve Smith, I’m all for it. But after watching Nicks, Johnson’s (Andre and Calvin) and Fitzgerald, I have visions of someone over 6 foot catching passes from Cutler. So I’m all for Floyd, Jeffry and Sanu in that order in the first round

I know

because we have zero chance of drafting Blackmon, but everyone else is “theoretically” in our drafting range, but I’m just putting my two cents in about wright

He has the best hands in the draft, hes a big target, and he has speed to get open
