it can't be posted enough
this guy is terrible in case anyone forgot
What are you talking about? He's amazing!!
Over 20% of his picks are starters!
He has an equal number of backups.
He only missed 58% of the time, who wouldn’t want a guy who can hit the target 42% of the time? (sarcasm off)
He’s awesome at drafting – the practice of standing behind someone else who blocks the headwinds for you.

If I was Ted Philips
First, I’d be really pissed I was Ted Philips.
Second, I’d rather take a chance on a relative unknown quantity who has had recent success in a system like ours (Marc Ross) rather than Ruskell who we know has done average to below average in multiple recent drafts as GM.
Well, that certainly qualifies him to be the Bears GM.
by BigGeorgeTX on Jan 20, 2012 12:04 PM CST up reply actions
An average GM in Chicago?
Get out of here, I thought we had a policy of only hiring the top talent in the league…
Geez
First, I didn’t recognize any of the picks. I’m not a nut about draft stuff, but I’d be interested to see how his picks stack up against other GM’s. The lack of any major players on the list makes me wonder if the law of averages (much like what the case was with Kenny Williams-the blind squirel (sp) gets a nut now and then) might catch up with him. Trouble is, the Bears defense has gone Fredo (weak and stupid) and they still have no offensive weapons. Once the back is checked, they have no real players. Plus, they have Lovie Smith running the show. That’s like three strikes agains the Bears. I’m still in shock that they’ve not only kept Smith but have rated him so high as a skilled coach it makes you really, really concerned that the owners have a clue. Seriously, I wonder how many other teams would have 1) kept Smith 2) rated him a top coach 3) decided to build a team around him and his ‘talents’. Not too many, probably none (except maybe Arizona). 2012 is going to be a serious disaster, but how much you want to bet Smith will be around in 2013? So, our debating who the GM will be is a moot point and a waste of time, I think.
How refreshing.
The offense sucks, the defense sucks, and Lovie sucks. I guess the trip to the NFCCG last year, and the whole 7-3 before Cutler went down this year, were total flukes.
interviewing
i hope they aren’t interviewing people just to appease the fans and then slip ruskell in as gm
If that happens
Majority of fans will be really really really pissed, cause it could give the FO the impression that they are content with mediocrity. (as if they didn’t do so already)

...but it is as bad.
I don’t know why they’re saying its not. I want us to try and get good talent, not “good enough” talent. It’s not what Halas would have wanted. Chicago, and its fans, deserve better than “good enough.”
If it makes you feel better
boers and bernstein were talking yesterday about how “their guys” seem to think that ruskell wont get the job and are just being nice cause he is liked up there…..They talked about how it was odd that all the stories about how ross doesnt work hard were refuted by “their guys” and how Halas Hall was defending him…..
Plus add in what Holmes said yesterday on the Score on how he heard that Lovie likes ross and made him the new favortie…..
That said Jeff Dickerson listed a rank on each guys chances to get the job based on what he had heard / felt / thought it went:
5 – ruskell
4 – raye
3 – licht
2 – ross
1 – emery
because emery had been with the Bears in the past and he is close to ruskell…..Thinks that the Bears want to keep most of what they have in place already and thinks that since emery knows most in place at Halas Hall already he would be the “safe hire” for that to happen……

Obviously we want the best qualified guy to get the gig. That being said, qualifications are subjective. The person(s) doing the interviewing have to know what they want first, and what they are looking at second.
How often do we see major failures in both areas by this organization?

I'm not sure how to take the fact Matt Forte will play in the Pro Bowl
People suggest it’s a good idea to play in the game so everyone can see whether or not Matt Forte’s condition should be of concern, and to see a sample of what to expect next year. Also, it may help him get a big contract if he shows out.
But, I also think it’s a dumb idea. The Pro Bowl is nothing more than a glorified scrimmage. It’s not the best indicator as to see if Matt Forte is 100%. Plus, there is the fear of him doing more damage to his knee.
Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that
by Erik Christopher Duerrwaechter on Jan 20, 2012 8:50 AM CST reply actions
He has the opportunity to play in his first and possibly only Pro-Bowl.
He’s going to touch the ball, what, ten times at the most? I doubt that his performance is going to have any bearing on anyone’s perception of his health or value.
I might be interested in seeing how well he does running behind a bona fide OL on an offense with actual WR’s, but against a Pro Bowl defense, it’s probably a wash anyway.

Ruskell will probably be hired interim 1-3 years.
Mostly because it seems like they missed the two-three guys they really wanted, so instead of taking the iffy choice, they go the safe route, hire Ruskell..then clean house next season if things blow up.
If the Bears are going to announce Ruskell
Prediction is it would be today or on the Friday before the Super Bowl.
They will want to do it at a time when as little attention as possible could be directed towards the decision.
