2011 AFC Championship Game: Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots Open Thread

Away Home
Ravens 3:00PM ET (CBS) Patriots

There are only 3 games left in the 2011 NFL season. It's hard to believe we're here, seemingly only yesterday that we were wondering about shortened seasons, crazy free agency periods, and teams with no practice.

The Baltimore Ravens travel to Gillette Stadium to take on the New England Patriots, with the hopes of knocking them off and returning to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2000. The Patriots have been a playoff team that can't get over the hump the past few years, and hope to return to their winning ways.

Big offense. Big defense. This is what we sign up for as football fans. It's anything-can-happen Sunday. Enjoy!

by T.Moore on Jan 22, 2012 3:25 PM CST reply actions

It's not about him being the next great receiver

It’s about him being a player at a need position for the Bears that was good enough to be an important player on a playoff team and good enough not to be redshirted or play in spots. Paea may be good but 2nd rounders should be making an impact the season they’re drafted. It’s why Angelo is out of a job.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Jan 22, 2012 3:33 PM CST up reply actions

It doesn't mean that he'll be any good here, due to our shitty WRs coach (fuck you angelo)

Due to our shitty coaching on our WRs, At that time we needed a DT as well and when Paea played he was actually good. For all we know Torrey could be the next Eddie Royal. Benefiting from another very good WR one year and then being “meh” after that…He’s a deep threat we already have them that’s basically all he is and what Baltimore needed, why should we draft more one dimensional deep threats …At that Time Paea was a good pick and imo still is a nice pick and did contribute when he was in…I just rather have a guy who isn’t just a one dimensional deep threat, like Torrey or Knox anymore. Tired of them…

Understandable.....

But the majority of teams whine about calls including some guys on our beloved team, they just don’t get them. The so-called “elite” teams always whine about calls and they usually get them. As far as them not having a defense, you might as well hate every other team in the league because they’re just the same. Also, every team cheats, the Pats are the only team that was dumb enough to get caught.

I like the Pats because they’re a well run team that consistently competes. I can’t hate a team that is well run in mostly every facet. Doesn’t make me a fan that buys their gear but I can respect them. In the grand scheme of things I want the Niners to win the SB but they have to get their first.

Pats going to a SB

Because the Ravens don’t know how to win a damn game. Seriously, the Pats have no business going to the SB

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

Just throw to Boldin, Bill doesn't respect him

Fucking Edelman was on him!!!!

This game wasn't fully on Flacco

But he didn’t capitalize on Brady playing a shitty game…

he hit a guy in the chest in the end zone

with less than 20 seconds left in the game. I don’t know how much better he should play before you and Dils stop killing the guy.

by Basketball Smurf on Jan 22, 2012 5:14 PM CST up reply actions

Tell you what. Go ask a Ravens fan how they feel today

watching a QB show the pocket presence of Johnathan Quinn against the worst defense in football. It’s not just about that drop. He had more than just that drive to get his team in position to score more than 20 points.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

by Dils on Jan 22, 2012 5:17 PM CST up reply actions

can we stop exagerrating?

he did enough to win that game or at least send it to OT. Besides the 1st 2 drives of the game and that interception, he was solid. Not every guy is going to be a top 10 QB. He did enough to win that game.

by Basketball Smurf on Jan 22, 2012 5:21 PM CST up reply actions

No he didn't

Brady bailed him out of being the goat for this game even before that drive. Hey I have no skin in the game but a QB that’s better prepared to take advantage of that porous defense would be going to a SB right now. That will be the story this offseason in Baltimore… not a WR dropping a TD unfortunately.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

i know you don't like stats...

Joe Flacco 22-36, 306 yrds, 2 td, 1 int – 95.4 rt
Brady 22-36, 239 yrds, 2 int, 0 td – 57.5 rtg

It's not about that and you know it

Look I hate the Pats and wanted the Ravens to win it. But it’s about the whole game and converting on opportunities. We watch Alex Smith do it. We watched Eli Manning do it. Yeah it sucks what Evans did with the drop. I’m just saying Flacco’s pocket presence is an issue because he could have walked for a 1st down that would have continued the drive. But it is what it is.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

Belichek should be getting creamed for having Edelmen

on Bouldin. Instead he’s going to a SB. Damn shame

I need to see more footage of the "missed" td catch.

It looked like he caught it, took 3 steps, and had it batted out. I thought it was a TD.

Help me understaaaaand!!!

:(

Jay Cutler is our quarterback, baby! Please pass the nitroglycerin tablets.
