Someone should tell Pompei and HBO
That toradol is an NSAID. It doesn’t have the same ring to it when the headline is ‘Urlacher tells HBO he used Advil.’

Toradol is to Advil as
Cocaine is to Caffeine.
Ignorance is bliss, right?

Um not really
Cocaine and caffeine have very different effects in the brain. Caffeine works primarily by blocking adenosine. Cocaine prevents reuptake of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine into presynaptic neurons. Toradol and Advil work in almost exactly the same way, non-selectively inhibiting the COX enzyme pathways that stimulate inflammation. They have similar risk profiles too. Toradol is faster acting
because it’s injected so you bypass absorption in the gut and initial liver metabolism. Are there risks of renal failure? Yes, but typically requires other conditions, like having hypertension on an ace inhibitor or preexisting kidney problems. It’s easy to monitor for such things and men in their 30’s like Urlacher are low risk. Just don’t use it constantly on your grandmother.
Ignorance is bliss for people who make claims about health care without proper background.

The analogy, as intended...
was implicitly referencing baseballs issue with amphetamines, such as Pittsburgh Cocaine or ‘greenies’… as being ‘part of the game’, moreso than a biochemical response… I don’t know if you’re familiar with baseball history, that’s my bad. I’m also sorry, I didn’t do my wikiresearch before making a completely valid and indisputable analogy.
The thing is with Toradol is that it masks symptoms. Yes, Urlacher said that he gets it around twice a year, and that’s okay, as most would say in moderation, but there’s guy lining up every week to get their shots. It’s not necessarily Toradol that’s the issue, I’ll grant you that, but the underlying problem is, from a biomechanical standpoint (which was, at one point and time, my expertise), the failure to adequately have a body’s receptors feel pain leads to more injuries and a steep wearing down of mechanisms to prevent injuries. It’s the same idea as opioids, only without the addictive nature. It’s a slippery slope that’s similar to the HGH/Steroids ideas of the past: How much are we going to let players hurt their body in order to play the game?
It’s something I know I’m on the other side of the fence about most of the time, especially from posters here, on what should be ‘okay’ to allow players to do. We see for years, and years, how players coming out of the league are FUBAR, and that ’that’s a risk they should understand’ is just naive. I think that the league and the PA should do better, and this may be one of the steps. The other being, as Urlacher positively ascribed to, is forcing players to disclose and properly treat injuries. Saying that you’re going to mask your concussion so you can play the game isn’t admirable. It’s bloody stupid.

Some of that is backwards in order.
It doesn’t read as well as i hoped as i quickly scribed that out.
The League and The PA… and The other being… are in reverse order, they’re meant to be together.
Regardless of your position on Toradol, there’s still risks involved with taking that, and any NSAIDs, and as you should probably know, constant, repetitive usage of NSAIDs, like how football players have been reported to use it, has damaging effects to kidneys and livers because of the way it’s removed from the bloodstream. It’s a simple matter, really. There’s proscribed dosages and safe limits for a reason. To say that Toradol is advil, in the quantity that the players addressed are using Toradol (and for the length of time), is closer to saying ‘urlacher downs a bottle of advil every game day’. I think it’s poor to criticize Pompei and Real Sports on Toradol, because, it’s not Advil, and not all NSAIDs are as safe as advil. Remember Vioxx? Yeah.

Was Jerry Angelo the only problem?
If, as Biggs says, the fact that Emery is already familiar with the scouts is a plus….does that mean the scouts have been doing a good job and the only problem has been Angelo?
Why would we hire a GM that plans to keep everything status quo?
It's a win or else type situation
Its not common to see such unfold in this manner, but Emery is likely (not 100%) to keep the staff as is because it would ultimately show who is at fault: the front office or the HC, if they fail to make the playoffs.

So today is reportedly the day we see a new GM named in Chicago
I think they’ve got two people who are equally qualified to be the GM of the Bears. Of course I’ve pointed out all of Emery’s success in the draft, but Licht is not a pushover himself. And some may see Licht more qualified because he may have more experience in dealing with the pro side of football. Either way, I see both as significant upgrades from Jerry Angelo, and I’ll be happy with either candidate.

Me too. Would take either one of these guys.
We just need someone who scout better talent. Especially offensively.
Wouldnt it be funny if we had another DE with the last name Salters!
i agree
ill be content with either one of these guys.
Not today Erik,
Reports from Jensen say later this week
Wouldnt it be funny if we had another DE with the last name Salters!
CSN was reporting last night it would be Tuesday (today)
But, Jensen is normally right about these things.

They bring hope.
They have the potential to be good, just as Ruskell and Angelo had before them. Ruskell and Angelo have since been revealed as being not good.
The new guys do carry some amount of risk, but are we looking for guys with the highest floors (guys who are least likely to be disasters), or guys who might actually turn out great?
are we looking for guys with the highest floors (guys who are least likely to be disasters), or guys who might actually turn out great?
That was always meant to have been Jerry’s philosophy – look for high character, high floor prospects – but it seems like his risks always flopped. Badly.
When I assume, I'm not "making an ass out of u and me"... I'm actually putting u between me and an ass.
The problem seemed to be
His “high character, high floor risks” were on players that either had injury histories or hadn’t played the position he drafted them for very long, like Mark Bradley, CW, Tommy Harris, Gilbert etc

How about Bruce Arians for passing game coach
by Ryan21 on Jan 24, 2012 9:51 AM CST via Android app reply actions
then we'd be running trips formations on 90% of downs
not that there’s anything wrong with that…it’s a useful formation, if the right personnel are there
(Bennett-Ward; Knox-Brown (maybe) and ?-Williams <—-most important part)
also
?-Miller
I've seen Brucey enough to avoid him like the plague.

My concerns...
With hiring Emery is that he looks to be a product of the Angelo system and his hiring looks like another way to keep the status quo in tact. If he is hired on a short leash, fine, but I would have rather seen them bring in someone like Ross or Raye that would shake things up. I know, shaking things up is no where near the M.O. for Halas Hall. Licht worries me because how much success has anyone that left Foxboro really had? Pioli brought in Cassell to KC to be the franchise QB and that hasn’t worked out too well. Crennel, Weis, and McDaniels didn’t fare very well either. More and more it seems that Belichick is the cog that makes that whole machine run.
Thats a fact. Belicheck is New England.
When he leaves, that organization is not going to know what to do!
Wouldnt it be funny if we had another DE with the last name Salters!
Tannenbaum, Dimitroff, and Newsome
All three came out of Belichick’s system but at lower levels. Dimitroff served as a National Scout for the Pats, but then spent 4 years as the Director of Collegiate Scouting for Atlanta before getting the GM job. The other two were lower level personnel that went else where and grew up. Other than these 3 and their tenuous ties, there haven’t really been any real success stories come out of the Belichick tree.
This is amusing...
Cundiff mishap helped by scoreboard malfunction.
Was the error on the Gillette Stadium board an honest mistake made by a confused Patriots employee? Or were there darker forces at work here—a little Belichickian Machiavellianism to confuse the opposition with a Super Bowl berth on the line? Cundiff blames no one but himself for the miss. But he’s relieved to know he wasn’t seeing things on the stadium scoreboard.

Amid concerns about Jeffery’s fitness and ability to beat press coverage, Blackmon, Wright, and Floyd seem to have emerged as the draft’s consensus top-three receivers.
Don’t tell SMD…
