NFC Wild Card: Atlanta At New York Open Thread

Photo

So after last night's games, we get another couple pretty good matchups. First up, an Atlanta team that thought all they needed to draft last year was a receiver and a punter takes on the Giants, surviving the cluster that was the NFC East. Matt Ryan goes for his first playoff win against a quarterback that's won (read: helped win) it all.

This is your Open Thread - we'll have one more for the second game. As always, Open Thread Responsibly (TM).

Just so everyone is clear

Had the Bears stayed on their projected path (ie, no loss of Cutler), the Bears would be taking on this Giants team that just snuck into the playoffs by barely winning their division.

it doesnt

but come on. you just fire someone without even thinking about some candidates that your considering for the job. and i mean more than two guys. and if they did why not get them in to interview. nobody has a gun to ur head forcing you to hire them right away.

i dont see how you cant see that

by TR MacReady on Jan 8, 2012 2:43 PM CST up reply actions

I know what you're saying

but that’s not the only way to play the game. There’s all kinds of factors.

1. What kind of guy are you looking for?

2. You have to fulfill Rooney Rule requirements.

3. Are their preferred guys on a team that’s still playing right now?

You have to keep in mind, while the beat guys are pretty good at finding out who gets contacted by who, they don’t get them all. I saw a tweet from Jensen earlier indicating that Phillips is blowing up phones around the league, so it’s not like they’re just sitting around with their thumbs up their butts.

i'm not

just felt like it helped complete the thought.. But don’t get upset with the uneasiness there is. Oakland poached quickly, other teams may or may not be more appealing, and then we have tim ruskell on staff. the longer the bears wait, rightly or not, the more uncertain our future looks, and tim ruskell is on staff.

i’m having faith that a new chairmen is taking lead and changing the direction of the team. and that it obviously takes time to hire someone that is going to direct the team for hopefully years and years to come. but its uncertain as to what happens, and we have tim ruskell on payroll.

I think so as well

even with the dreaded ‘weather factor’ (which I hear about constantly by the experts on my teevee), I think the Saints and Brees are at the top of their offensive game. So is Rodgers, but both defenses are sucketh royale. Should be an awesome game if it happens.

Realistically, the Packers don't gain that much from playing in Lambeau

any more than the Bears do from playing at Soldier Field. For starters, they only play half their games there, and secondly, it’s not like they’re training like Balboa in Rocky IV—if it’s shitty outside, they’ll practice inside like most other teams.

I’d Like too see Colston come to town, then draft O-line, and LB or CB in the the 1 and 2. If we get those, then 3rd and beyond are gravy. plus, we have two third rounders!

I saw Mcnutt projected in the 3rd round, if we got Colston, and snagged mcnutt in the 3rd, I’d be super happy

So a complete lack of

personality and a dull sheen over your eyes makes you

That dude is driving a Cadillac on offense and always have

and still can’t get the job done. He’s overrated and next year the heat will finally be on him

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

Same should’ve been called on Fairley last night….

2-24 is not only the deficit the Falcons face right now, it’s also the projected passing line for Tim Tebow.

Ha!

I'm not so mean. I wouldn't ever go out to hurt anybody deliberately - unless it was, you know, important, like a league game or something. - Dick Butkus

Nah

He won’t throw 24 times

So all I gather from this weekend so far

is that the Bears really blew a great opportunity because ATL and Detroit had no business in the playoffs and they weren’t a better team than a healthy Bears squad

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

Yup

That’s why the disappointment of this season stings so much.

They weren’t much better than a banged up bears squad…

I wonder

If next year we’ll have the “Matt Ryan, all-pro QB” bandwagon again. How many playoffs game he’s going to blow before he’s taken down a notch or two ?

by lmfsilva on Jan 8, 2012 3:22 PM CST reply actions

His last 2 playoff games weren't so good

But i was never on the Matty Ice bandwagon. I think hes on the same tier as Jay is, but by next year Jay will be in the same class as Brees and Rodgers

by lowkeyman on Jan 8, 2012 3:24 PM CST up reply actions

i like jay, but not sure about brees and rogers class

both have rings jay does not.. and I like ryan, but he does need to win a playoff game, but hasnt he played well in one of the three losses?

I was implying he will be in the same class

b/c we are going to win the Super Bowl next year :)

by lowkeyman on Jan 8, 2012 3:29 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think he's anywhere near Jay

He’s Uber Orton or what Sam Braford would look like with weapons.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

CBS

Marino needs to do his work..he said Andre Johnson didnt play in texans last game, unless he ment last time they played ravens…cause he scored a td yesterday..

We may have found a possible candidate for the Bears' GM job
Sean Jensen’s of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that New York Giants Director of College Scouting, Marc Ross, is being looked at for the Chicago Bears General Manager position.

Found this on giants101.com. Link is posted in Ruskell story.

Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

Maybe I'm drunk on Kool-aid

But am I the only one that thinks the Bears will fing a good GM and have a great FA signing? I think the Bears are going to be pretty good next year
