NFC Wild Card: Atlanta At New York Open Thread
So after last night's games, we get another couple pretty good matchups. First up, an Atlanta team that thought all they needed to draft last year was a receiver and a punter takes on the Giants, surviving the cluster that was the NFC East. Matt Ryan goes for his first playoff win against a quarterback that's won (read: helped win) it all.
This is your Open Thread - we'll have one more for the second game. As always, Open Thread Responsibly (TM).

Just so everyone is clear
Had the Bears stayed on their projected path (ie, no loss of Cutler), the Bears would be taking on this Giants team that just snuck into the playoffs by barely winning their division.

im not saying hes a top 5 guy. but id put him in the top ten, for awhile now. legit top ten qbs are hard to come by
In my opinion
there are currently four helluva QBs—Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning, and I dunno if Manning will be a helluva QB anymore.

it doesnt
but come on. you just fire someone without even thinking about some candidates that your considering for the job. and i mean more than two guys. and if they did why not get them in to interview. nobody has a gun to ur head forcing you to hire them right away.
i dont see how you cant see that
I know what you're saying
but that’s not the only way to play the game. There’s all kinds of factors.
1. What kind of guy are you looking for?
2. You have to fulfill Rooney Rule requirements.
3. Are their preferred guys on a team that’s still playing right now?
You have to keep in mind, while the beat guys are pretty good at finding out who gets contacted by who, they don’t get them all. I saw a tweet from Jensen earlier indicating that Phillips is blowing up phones around the league, so it’s not like they’re just sitting around with their thumbs up their butts.

after the debacle which was the search for the last OC
and pretty much how lovie has hired every coach on the team.i just dont have a lot faith in them bringing in anyone but one of Lovies drinking buddies.
i'm not
just felt like it helped complete the thought.. But don’t get upset with the uneasiness there is. Oakland poached quickly, other teams may or may not be more appealing, and then we have tim ruskell on staff. the longer the bears wait, rightly or not, the more uncertain our future looks, and tim ruskell is on staff.
i’m having faith that a new chairmen is taking lead and changing the direction of the team. and that it obviously takes time to hire someone that is going to direct the team for hopefully years and years to come. but its uncertain as to what happens, and we have tim ruskell on payroll.

Haha, not necessary.
Realistically, though, the Saints are the only team that moves the ball like Green Bay does. It’s a hard fact to dispute.
Plus, their coach is crazy enough to try the unorthodox thing that could put them over the edge.

I think so as well
even with the dreaded ‘weather factor’ (which I hear about constantly by the experts on my teevee), I think the Saints and Brees are at the top of their offensive game. So is Rodgers, but both defenses are sucketh royale. Should be an awesome game if it happens.

The Saints offense did pretty ok
on opening night. Granted, it’ll be colder, but cold doesn’t defeat talent. Cold only defeats the mental aspect, and I think New Orleans can handle that.

Editor at windycitygridiron.com | @Kev_WCG
Realistically, the Packers don't gain that much from playing in Lambeau
any more than the Bears do from playing at Soldier Field. For starters, they only play half their games there, and secondly, it’s not like they’re training like Balboa in Rocky IV—if it’s shitty outside, they’ll practice inside like most other teams.

right, but its still a mental hurdle they have to deal with. Even if they deal well with its stiill on their minds, plus its motivation for the packers defense.. but i think it still is about the defense. both d’s are bad, but the saints seems alot worse

right,
i feel both are equally terrible, but with the home field, in winter against a southern pass happy offense, would elevate the gb defense mentally. so i trust gb’s d over the saints.

I’m psyched for this draft, provided we hire a GM that knows what he’s doing.
Prov 6: 21 - 22
I like the idea of offense through FA, Defense through Draft myself.
I’d Like too see Colston come to town, then draft O-line, and LB or CB in the the 1 and 2. If we get those, then 3rd and beyond are gravy. plus, we have two third rounders!
I saw Mcnutt projected in the 3rd round, if we got Colston, and snagged mcnutt in the 3rd, I’d be super happy

McNutt will go earlier than that
not because he’s that awesome right now, but just because with his size he has lots of potential for some teams who don’t yet have that big-type of WR

hey, I can dream can't I?
I always get so excited I can never decide what I really want da Bears to do in FA/Draft. Fortunately (sorta) I can just leave it to them.
Prov 6: 21 - 22
My only point is that it will be hard to know how good McNutt could be
because of the QBs that he played with. Stanzi didn’t have that great of a year during McNutt’s junior year, and Vandenberg was just plain awful all year long. But I would be interested in seeing how McNutt would do if he had someone like Cutler throwing him the ball.
