Earlier today, questions were raised whether the Chicago Bears properly handled quarterback Jay Cutler's concussion -- or whether they addressed the injury quickly enough.
Well it didn't take long for the league to respond. Courtesy of Sean Jensen:
"Our office reviewed it with the [Bears] medical staff and it was properly handled," said NFL spokesman Greg Aiello. "The team followed the correct protocol."
Any time there is helmet-to-helmet contact, red flags are immediately raised. For players who are known to tough injuries out as much as possible (like Cutler), it can be easy to assume that they are okay... That they just 'shook it off' and are good to go.
In a day where so much focus is placed on player safety, there is still a lot of gray area... Players will want to play, coaches will want them to play, fans will want them to play; but that is all with short-term goals in mind. We are just now starting to see the long-term effects of head injuries, and for many players, looking into their possible future has got to be a hard pill to swallow.
Stay tuned...
