Teams never want to leave their fate in the hands of others, and tonight, the Chicago Bears were eliminated from playoff contention with a Vikings victory over the Packers.

Fire up the rumor mills now: Lovie Smith's job is on the line.

With the Minnesota Vikings' victory over the Green Bay Packers Sunday evening, the Chicago Bears' season is officially over.

The Vikings ended the season with a 10-6 record, the same as the Chicago Bears, but the tie-breaker rules push the Vikes into the Wild Card spot.

Adrian Peterson had the second-best rushing season in NFL history, despite having complete knee reconstruction exactly one year ago today. He ended this season just nine yards shy of Eric Dickerson's record.

Lovie Smith and his Chicago Bears had a chance to control their own fate last week versus the Packers, but lost at Soldier Field in disappointing fashion The team sends five starters to the Pro Bowl, but that talent was not good enough to win the division, or to play in the post-season.

Phil Emery has a decision to make, and it should be made swiftly. Lovie Smith is under contract through 2013, so we will see what will happen in coming days.
