My god, he's huge
I tried looking for 2011 highlights a couple months back and couldn’t find a good HD one. Nice link.
He looks David-Boston-after-roiding big. I’m hesitant to jump on the weight problems / fat picture story because no reporter has backed that with anything substantial, but damn.
My belief remains that, if Jeffery wants to be elite, he has the most upside of any WR in this draft… there just aren’t many 6’4" 230 guys with his hands and body control. Brandon Marshall was 6’4.5" 230 and ran a 4.52. Marques Colston was 6’4" 225 and ran a 4.50. If Jeffery runs under a 4.5, he’ll be pretty tempting a #19, risky as it feels.
I'd take him over Floyd
but I just can’t see the Bears draft a WR with their 1st pick and I don’t think they should. But it’s all just guessing until FA is done.
"Brian Urlacher, coasting down the right sideline. A Sunday stroll into the endzone."
Regardless of who they pick up in FA, they have to draft a WR in round 1 or 2

No thanks
All he is is big. I don’t think he has the speed agility to be a primary receiver in the NFL. He’d do better in a place like N.E., Pit or maybe Arizona.

Throw in the questions regarding his weight and work ethic....
And I think he far to big a risk at #19

If you're huge, you don't really have to be that fast
I mentioned Marshall/Colston above. Fitz ran a 4.48. Boldin ran a 4.7. Bowe ran a 4.51.
First off, I think he'll be doing good to run below a 4.6
4.48 and 4.51 are actually decent times for guys their size.
Secondly, guys who are slower like Boldin have to be able to create seperation with quickness in their route running. To me Jeffery is just a big guy that has gotten by primarily on his size and guys like that (I.e. Mike Williams) don’t typically do well as go to receivers. There’s more to playing receiver in the NFL than just being big.

I dunno
check out some of Jeffery’s 2010 highlights, he looked crazy good imo, plenty fast and agile.
I hear Mike Williams a lot with Jeffery, but Williams was such a unique situation with that court case. The guy didn’t touch a football field, and just had light conditioning work for over 1.5 years and then got drafted top 10. Then got hurt the next preseason, gained 15lbs and stayed inactive. Who knows what would’ve happened given different circumstances, and I point to his route running as the reason he failed, and I don’t see Jeffery’s case as anything similar. Colston was projected to be a TE by a lot of scouts out of college due to his mediocre speed and route running, why not compare Jeffery to him?
Ya, and he was taken in the 7th because of it.
I’d gladly take Jeffery in the 2nd, but with the question marks surrounding him not the 1st. To me there are 4 more well rounded WR prospects above him.
by Joeb'n777 on Feb 11, 2012 8:24 AM CST via mobile up reply actions
I mean, it's irrelevant how he was scouted
There basically were no 6’4" 220+ receivers prior to 2006 when Colston was drafted. The closest guys were… Tony Gonzalez if he counts… Plaxico was 220 but bone thin. Since then it’s just exploded.
I’m with you in liking the other guys too though. If the Bears take another WR at #19 I’m fine with it.
He does look good
His weight issue will haunt him in the NFL though. Once he gains a little extra baggage, he’ll cease to be effective in route-running and pro CBs will shut him down.
This is why he isn’t worth a first round grade.

I like this guy
check the vid at 6:06. He makes a one handed catch with a CB all over him and gets held. he is strong, attacks the ball, fights for YAC and can block.

Hence why we need Floyd instead of this guy ......

I ask this
Per say Jefferies falls to us in the 2nd/ early 3rd would grab him even if we picked up floyd in the 1st?
In a heart beat . He's not as big of a risk in the second or third & .....
….. it would give us some much needed WR help .

i mean...
no one knows how the draft will fall i mean hey what if we trade back a couple of slots and floyd is still there
Really like this kid.
Saw a decent amount of SC games living in ‘Bama and he never seemed to disappoint, regardless of how bad his QB play was. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to snag him at 19. He’s a baller. Cutler to Jeffery has quite the ring to it IMO.
WILDCARD BITCHES!!! YEEEEHHHAAAAA!!!!!
I think everyone forgets the best WR ever in the game Jerry rice never was fast
You can have all the speed u want if u cant run routs you aint nothing, look at our bears WRs fast but cant run routs. But the problem is the bear need to sign a number 1WR we cant afford to draft 1 and hope he dose good.
I highly doubt...
this kid is available at #19. I do think the Bears need to dispense with their speed only philosophy and just bring in talent. Besides, the Bears have plenty of speed guys on the offense anyway. There are enough big WRs in this draft that the Bears can get a FA WR and draft a big WR prospect in the 3rd round to give Cutler some weapons. I wouldn’t mind if the Bears went out and got a good TE. Speedy WRs are only truly useful if the Bears played on a fast surface regularly. I think the Bears need to get larger at WR and build an offense similar to the Pats, but with a good running game.
There's a fine line between stupid...and clever!
They aren't going to get one at#19 either...
so what is your point?
There's a fine line between stupid...and clever!
This year you will
Randle… Quick… Streeter are in that area. None of them did what Jeffery was able to do at age 20, but this draft is loaded at WR.
#19?? No chance.
He’s gone in the top 10. Jeffreys might be there but we’d be insane to draft a WR in the 1st when we need to win now. Give the Fins a 2nd or 3rd and a player like sanzy and get Marshall. He’d only need 6 million a year as his up-front money has been paid. Draft Konz or Burfict and make a big play for Mario Williams. Lombardi in the bag.
another Sanzenbacher for Marshall comment!
I love it!

And then we sign V Jax
and Mario Williams and all of our free agents and still have 10 mil under the cap.
Above all; keep 'em guessing, never let them lose their sense of confusion.
Thats about right though it sounds a little light cap room wise though ......

As much as i like Sanzy i think he’s a Welker caliber as long as he learns to catch pass’s when they come from a Cannon

If the Bears want him
they should trade down, cause he isn’t worth the risk at #19. They need to desperately hit their first rounder this season. I’d prefer Floyd or Wright over Jeffrey.
They’re better route runners with better speed.

The thing I like about Floyd
is he’s been a great college receiver from day 1.
719 yards, 7 TDs in 11 games: Freshman year
795 yards, 9 TDs in 7 games: Sophomore year
1025 yards, 12 TDs in 13 games: Junior year
1147 yards, 9 TDs in 13 games: Senior year
That’s crazy production. Do we know of a 1st round pick who was this productive all four years and failed? I’d like to know this. The only red flag I see is a knee injury in 2008 that he seems to have recovered from.
I like Floyd too
A lot of kids make mistakes… If he’s there at 19 he’s a nobrainer

Yeah
And he’s owned up to it. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder as well. I love that about college prospects, especially first rounders.

He seems to have good hands
but he’s not very fast or agile. A good NFL corner would make him cry. He had some good blocking down field.
"And furthermore, I think Carthage must be destroyed."
Can't believe all this talk about drafting WRs in the first round.
Olin Kreutz and Urlacher need their replacements. If LAc goes down the season is over. We have a guard playing center with his backup playing RG. With Konz we could have a solid line with some depth. Konz or Burfict is a must – we should even consider trading to get both.
Spencer is fine at center, and Urlacher is still there
The strategy is to try to give Urlacher help so he can win a title before he retires, not to find his replacement then wait till he leaves.
Konz would be a huge reach at #19

Wow, so wrong
Bears have two solid centers and Urlacher is still productive. The Bears lack productive WRs and have big questions at both OT spots all of which make those much more important needs than LB or C.

Yeah
He was there so long i guess no one realized the big white guy who gave the ball to the other white guy now had darker skin all season??? Who knew.
Urlacher has a few good years left. OL is a big topic but i thought we took Camilari Move him to LT move Webb to LG Spencer can move to Center Move Garza to RG and I’m sure we have someone who can step up for RT

This guy has the most upside in recent years

I have a problem with a guy who can't get separation on his own highlight film.....
I wouldn’t use the 19th pick on him.
I've got major reservations about him, and I don't care what 40 he runs.
He looks slow out there. At the college level. I just can’t get past that.

Recent scouting report not looking good
Rotoworld’s take on their most overrated prospects in the draft.
Simply put, Jeffery cannot separate. This was clear in his bowl game effort against Nebraska’s Alfonzo Dennard, who repeatedly jammed Jeffery at the line of scrimmage. Dennard completely overmatched Jeffery downfield, as the receiver created no space against Nebraska’s physical corner despite the Cornhuskers’ tendency to give South Carolina’s quarterback more than seven seconds to throw. Jeffery does not use his large frame effectively, either. Plenty of slow receivers make a living converting catches in traffic, but Jeffery loses way too many 50/50 balls for that to be the foundation of his game. Receivers with limited separation skills require confident, accurate quarterbacks willing to take chances in tight windows. 20 teams or more are without that kind of QB. Jeffery is the eighth best receiver in the draft, and a massive risk as a first-round pick.

Janoris Jenkins dominated him as well.
I want no part of this guy.

Jenkins is a really good corner , but a 6'4" guy with great leaping ability .....
….. should be able to dominiate a 5’9" – 5’10" guy . Lets just pass on this kid .

Jenkins shut down A.J. Green and Julio Jones as well
"Brian Urlacher, coasting down the right sideline. A Sunday stroll into the endzone."
Wow...
Yep… he was overmatched by Dennard. It clearly shows cuz Jeffery only had four catches for 148 yards and a TD before they both got ejected.
Not sure how you can have that kind of a line in a game and be COMPLETELY overmatched in every aspect… cannot separate/being jammed at the line/created no space downfield/not using his large frame/etc…
Holy cow
Kind of a bad report then. I assumed he didn’t have good numbers based on that segment. My bad.

Yep
He’s going to have a battle keeping his weight down, which is the key to his success in the NFL.
"I'm sore and I'm pissed off. I'm a baller. I want to feel the leather. I love thumb wars. 6-8 weeks? 6. follow me for healing, Jay Cutler does" - Jaysthumb twitter acct
Overmatched? maybe...
He got behind the defense once after the QB almost fell down, Dennard was caught looking in the backfield. That went for 78yds I think, but he was run down from behind before scoring. And at the end of the first half he out jumped several teammates for a hailmary pass that was short of the endzone. Did a nice job of turning and diving across the goalline as soon as he landed.
Aside from that, just two other catches. Could not get separation on any routes and was getting roughed up pretty good at the LOS, too. Then got kicked out of the game.
In summation, those two big plays might have won him the war, but he lost almost every battle in between and most of those losses were pretty ugly.
Bearsh!tt!n It ain't obscene- I'm a Bears fan that likes hittin and exclamation points.
