OSS: Geometric Ditka

Digital prints, wall art and t-shirts of 'Geometric Ditka', as well as other Bears designs, are available on my new online shop. Also, I'm planning on doing a series of these 'Geometric Bears' illustrations, capturing some of the most iconic Bears of both the past and present. I was thinking of doing Brian Urlacher next, but wanted to poll you guys on who you thought I should take on. Leave your answers in the comments below. As a pre-warning, all "Gate 68" answers will be thrown out, and that commenter will receive one demerit on their WCG e-status.

I've tried that

but it only gives items to select when choosing either US or Canada. When picking, UK, EU or Other, it shows ‘no products available for the selected destination.’

Geometric Design.

Someone sent me an email suggesting that I tell a little about doing these geometric illustrations.

While they take a fair amount of time to create, the process behind them is pretty simple. I take an image that I like (ala Ditka), and use it as my reference point. Then I draw triangles mostly, with a splash of other geometric shapes, and fill them with contrasting colors. I try to find a balace between too many and too little, because I want people to be able to identify the character, without it being turning too realistic. This is my first stab at this technique, and it probably took close to 10 hours of work. In the future, I could see knocking a few hours off, once I can master the intricacies of this style. That about sums it up.

You could try and use

the cutout filter in Photoshop and play with the edge simplicity and keep the number of levels high and that might help give you a basis of the geometry. It won’t be as crisp and nice looking so you’ll have to illustrate it anyway but you could save a copy and place it over the original image at a low opacity to give you an idea of how the shapes might play out. Thought maybe it might help cut down the hours it takes but it looks great. Good work.
