Kid looks like he's not afraid to block and he knows how to go up and get the ball. I like him.

I think I would still rather try and grab Colston or Bowe on the open market first though and then go after somebody like Sanu in the 2nd.

Why not grab Bowe AND Floyd, or Jeffery

Yep

Cutty needs an armada of weapons. Go out and get Finley while we’re at it.

Yeah seriously

They’ve spent big money on defense with Pep, Briggs, Lach, Tillman, and multiple rookies.. It’s time to give the offense some TLC

Draft heavy defense

Throw in a guard and development WR.

I want you now

Great blocker, body-control and adjustment while the ball is in the air, good separation and hands. He’s a true #1 on game tape.

Thanks for posting!

Ya know I couldn't stand him before

but after I started my yearly draft research.. I’m really starting to warm up to him.

he really reminds me of a Larry Fitzgerald. Won’t burn you with speed, but has VERY soft hands and makes some crazy acrobatic catches. Runs crisp routes and has an enormous vertical

Respect for coming around on Floyd.

Even with seeing him play on TV a lot and getting to see all the attributes you described above, I was impressed with his willingness and physicality as a blocker.

Yeah and I'm not the only one comparing him to Fitz

a few others have as well.

Also, his attitude seemed to really come around this season/postseason

I think he’s starting to realize that playing this game if a gift and he can be out of it much quicker than he got into it

That could coincide with his intensity and attitude in blocking.

by CurtisEnisFan on Feb 5, 2012 1:46 PM CST up reply actions

Well

He’s a lot more physical than I thought. Not afraid to pursue blocks, plus he’s very smart on getting YAC. Not to mention he jumps up and makes adjustments to get the ball, and looks a solid route runner. If he manages to carry these skills to the pro game, and falls into the late 1st round, he’s well worth a gamble. Bring another #1/high #2 receiver, and Cutler will have the weapons to move up the field l even with the o-line leaking.

The only thing I worry about is his attitude.

I’ve heard the kid is a real tool, but I don’t know him personally so who really knows.

The kid has a lot of potential and I wouldn't be upset if he was the pick...

However, he makes me nervous. I think he has a lot of potential to bust as well. I can see things in him that remind me of David Terell

by Joeb'n777 on Feb 5, 2012 11:10 AM CST via mobile reply actions

no so much really

Terrell really wasn’t great in college

He only had one 1,000 yard season

Here’s a link to his stats

and to Floyd’s

Floyd is much bigger, better hands and has a more willingness to block than Terrell.

Floyd has 12 lbs on him and no height...

And I don’t know where your getting better hands from. Before this year Floyd was known for having inconsistent hands. Also, Terell had good hands in college, his senior season against Northwestern Terell made one of the best catches I’ve ever seen.

When I say that I see a few similarities I say that they are both similar size, are questionable route runners and have character questions.

simliar size? 12 pounds is ALOT in football

It’s the difference between 210 and 222

come on man. Floyd has a better vertical, better blocker, better stats, and wouldn’t be considered a reach if he went in the top 20. When Terrell came out he was rated as a low1st or high 2nd round.. He got taken alot higher than he was rated.

Watching Floyd against college defenders was like watching a high school senior vs. eighth graders. Bigger, faster, stronger.

I fully expect to see impressive combine numbers out of him. Maybe not like last year’s freak (Julio Jones), but very good in all categories.

I honestly think that the Falcons paid too much for Jones

I don’t think he will ever turn into the #1 WR that he should turn into after everything they paid for him

I never said he was a carbon copy

I just said there were a few things about him that were similar IMO. Like I said they are far from exact copies however, when I look at some of the things that caused Terell to bust in the NFL (route running, attitude) I see the potential for those things to be a problem with Floyd and it makes me a bit nervous in taking him.

Route Running

Link

Link

Link

See, I think you’re knocking his route running too much. He played in a pro-style offense his first two years, so he definitely knows the whole route tree. He’s an average to good route runner which is as much as you can ask of a rookie WR picked outside of the top 15

Not true

There are two better route runners “rated” lower than Floyd in Sanu and Wright.

But like all draft prospects, we’ll see….

by Joeb'n777 on Feb 5, 2012 5:40 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Neither Sanu nor Wright have the talent, or #1 prospects that Floyd has

That may or may not be true

Talent only gets you so far. After a certain point it becomes about developing and improving your talent. That is what really determines what players succeed and which ones don’t.

Also, to say a WR prospect lacks #1 potential is ignorant. I’m pretty sure nobody predicted that guys like Steve Smith, Wes Welker, Hakeem Nicks, Mike Wallace or Hines Ward as #1 WR’s when they came out.

And you know what else Sanu and Wright don’t have?…. Baggage. I know “reports” say he has changed, and maybe he had. However when you are competing with almost equally as talented as you who don’t have the baggage you do it has to be brought up.

by Joeb'n777 on Feb 5, 2012 10:24 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

uhhh

Hakeem Nicks, yes. Steve Smith, yes. Mike Wallace, yes.

Sanu will probably be nothing more than a good #2 possession option. Wright is comparable to Steve Smith, but he’s not Smith. He’s not near as strong as Smith was coming out so he’s looking like a downfield threat.

Floyd is the 2nd best WR in the draft and as physically gifted as they come.

Whoa whoa whoa

Compare both guys two best seasons:

Terrell- 134 recs 2032 yds. 20 TD’s
Floyd- 179 recs 2172 yds. 21 TD’s

That’s not that different especially when you consider in Terrell’s senior season his QB’s only threw for just under 2700 yds and 20 TD’s.

by Joeb'n777 on Feb 5, 2012 5:13 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Floyd had a 100 rec season and two 1k seasons

Terrell never had a 100 and only had 1 1k season

Oh, I see

Your trying to say that 2 guys who’s best two seasons only differ by a combined 140 yds and 1 TD don’t have at least somewhat similar production, and that is a dumb and in your mind easily reputable arguement when in reality all you are trying to do is get the last word.

And another thing. 31 yds may be a mile in an actual game, but over the course of an entire season it is a foot.

by Joeb'n777 on Feb 6, 2012 12:16 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

That's fine

Second half of the 1st round, the bust rate on any position is high. I just hope the Bears can get a guy who can be a foundation piece for a long time, and Floyd looks like he has that ability.

by YaoPau on Feb 5, 2012 4:38 PM CST up reply actions

If the Bears draft this guy

opposing defenders would have to have their heads on a swivel in case they get ear holed. Rare agression and tenacity in his blocking for a heralded wideout, he sometimes drives his man yards out of the play. Combine this with Tice’s fondness for sending his backside tackle to wipe out the Mike and you could have some massive cutback lanes.

by weepingbear on Feb 5, 2012 12:17 PM CST reply actions

I'm all for getting Jay what he needs and if it's Floyd then cool. I too am coming around to Floyd....

What I like is his ability to adjust to the ball in the air. He attacks it and that’s impressive. Only thing is he won’t be around if he impresses at the Combine.

Physically and athletically

I have no doubts that this guy can be a true #1 at the NFL level. My only concern (and the reason why he’s not a top 5-10 pick) is the DUI and the off-the-field stuff. But he’s easily better than anyone that we’ve currently got on the roster. This kid could come in and start from day 1, and be Jay’s go-to-guy.

by JimmyMack on Feb 5, 2012 2:46 PM CST reply actions

I have a gut feeling he'll be gone by the time the Bears get on the clock

I hope I’m wrong for our sake, the off field stuff doesn’t really bother me he looks to have put it behind him and stayed out of trouble last season

by LatinoHeat88 on Feb 5, 2012 3:55 PM CST reply actions

Looks like a playmaker

Coud be big time playmaker – Cutler can get him the ball and Floyd can get open. Could be a big redzone matchup nighgtmare if he lands with the right team.
