David Garrard Could be Headed to Chicago
This would be a very solid , proven guy to back Jay up .

If the price is right, go for it.
There’s a legit chance he could be better than either Orton or McCown, but they’re gonna need a masterful handling of the salary cap to build a championship team next year. I wouldn’t mind signing a lesser backup if Garrard asks for too much.

With Garrards age and coming off a year long injury layoff my ....
…. guess is that he’ll be cheaper than Orton and about as much as McCown . This seems like the best move for us to make ……. unless a better , cheaper option gets cut .

Would still rather have McCown or McNabb. Someone who played well and played last season at some point.
McNabb only has half that equation. Played last season, yes.
Played well? Not so much.
I think McNabb was decent... not at all good, but decent
An 82.9 rating is solid. PFF rated him positively. Completed over 60% of his passes. The Vikings record stunk, but 4 of his 5 losses were by a touchdown or less. He’s probably no better than bottom-tier-starter level… but I think he would’ve helped the Bears win an extra game or two last season.
mcnabb would have been a farce with the bears
theres was enough tension in the locker room without him.

I thought Garrard held out originally because he wanted to be a starter
Orton/Campbell are completely unrealistic imo. Both guys are too good, with too much starter experience, and have been paid too much to sit behind a 28 year old franchise QB. They’ll go somewhere where they at least have an outside chance of starting.
I can’t even think of a case where a mid-80s rating, recent 3500+ yardage guy signed as a backup at age 30. Guys like Culpepper, Pennington, Hasselbeck, Brunell, Griese were either worse or older, and all of them signed somewhere where they could possibly start.
I think he was holding out, more because of wanting a playoff contender to pick him up than any team with a starting job available
He may come to Chicago as the back-up in that case. Besides, the Bears have seen first hand how important a quality back-up QB is. If Mike Tice can lure him to Chicago, then that’s a good job done on his part.
Jay Cutler is our QB, and I for one am proud of that

Why did I forget to add him to FA Extravaganza !?
His name will be added shortly. And, he would be a great signing in regards to becoming Jay Cutler’s back-up. Him vs. Josh McCown for the #2 job, should be fun to watch.

No thanks, I'd rather stick with McCown

Because an article saying someone would be a better fit than two others
does not indicate that the person could be headed here.
I like cinnamon ice cream better than chocolate or vanilla, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to go buy any. It just means that I listed three random things, and picked the one I liked the best.
I'm a ninja.
So go get some cinnamon ice cream homie ....... I get what your sayin though .

Has anyone seen a recent update on Garrard's health?
If he’s even 90% I’d take him/McCown as a #2/#3 if both come relatively cheap. Way better than Hanie/Enderle.
Recent report said he'd be 100% in a couple months
I’ve love him over McCown. Garrard was so adamant about landing in a situation where he was the man though. In his mind, he’s a star QB…
Yeah... as we both know... he's not.
But he’d be one of the best backups in the league and a very good insurance plan.
Then again he could start over several current starters right now. Maybe he’ll get a shot somewhere.
It wasn't that he wasn't able
He was just injured by the time the Bears, Texans, and Raiders jobs opened up. The guy is coming off a pretty great 2010 season (28 tds, 90 QB rating in 14 games… with no notable receivers), so I can’t blame him for thinking he’s still got it.
I like Garrard.
I’ve actually been a huge proponent of his for years and his abilities.
If the price is right, he’s an upgrade over Josh McCown for sure.
Five foot three seems to thrive on his misery...
